I love how you respect the land. Back when my kids were young whenever we camped I would teach them to clean an entire trail , lake, or camp sight. That teaching has stuck with them to this day . Now they have they’re own family’s and they are teaching the kids the same thing. We use to take garbage sacks whenever we went on a hike so we could clean the creek and trails back to the car. Leaving areas we enjoy better than when we found it. Thank you for passing along this ethics. You are a good land steward.

Love your vids Nikki. A coupke of tips that may help. 1. Use your traction boards to help level the van when you're parked. 2. When driving in snow, always, always air down your tires. In fact, you should have an air compressor installed on your van build just for airing your tires back up for pavement. Cant wait to see your van. If you invest in suspension & tires, your van will take you places you Prius would never go.

Niki, I agree. I've been an OTR Truck Driver for 39 years. For about 10 years I would just pick a place I wanted to go, grab a load headed somewhere nearby, make my delivery, park the truck at a Truck Stop and rent a vehicle to go exploring. I've all over the Country, including Alaska and have even driven in a couple other Countries ( other than Mexico and Canada ). I still love to travel. But I hate what I'm seeing around the Country. People just don't care anymore. There are a few that do, but for the most part it seems that people only think about the moment, themselves and how something as simple as cleaning up behind themselves will inconvenience them.

Someone has probably already pointed this out, but when you are trying to get unstuck, always keep your wheels straight. Turning the wheels increases the resistance to moving forward. This is a lesson I learned the hard way...unfortunately, that is how I learn a lot of things. 😐 (You might be able to turn the wheels a little when using rescue boards; idk, I have never used them before.) Great video.

You two did a really good job backing out of that road without losing your cool (at least while the camera was running 😆). Looks like Sarah has all it takes to become the second adventure travel guide in the family. Too bad you did not make it to the hot springs, but knowing when it's safer to turn back than to keep pushing is important too.

You and Camper inspired me to document things including my furgirl, Stella. Currently at 13k on Instagram and was just given the option to make any sort of money. So as an appreciation, I decided to become a Patreon supporter because I wouldn't have started without your inspiration. I know it isn't much, but I wanted to support what got me the opportunity. Seeing strong, independent, nature conserving outdoor females like you, Sarah, your mom, Eva and Vilk, along with a lot of others in today's world is refreshing. Being a male in his 30s, it's an unpopular view maybe, but inspires me that if women in today's world can embrace life and enjoy the world as God intended, then there may be hope for the world. Also, Happy Belated Birthday! I knew you were a Capricorn! Lol. Mine is the 7th and see a lot of commonality.

Hi, Nikki. You’ve been traveling/playing in my backyard during the last two videos. Such beautiful country! Thought I’d share a couple of suggestions with you. If you find yourself desiring to camp in an area that isn’t exactly level, you can use the Maxtrax recovery boards to raise one side or end of the rig, and get more height by stacking them, if needed. I know you struggled to get turned around in the snow, but backing down a hill, snowy/icy or not, is very dangerous as you don’t have weight over your steer axle which reduces your ability to steer. I was cringing with you as you were doing it. So glad you made it safely. I highly recommend attending the Overland Expo West in Flagstaff AZ in mid-May and spending the money on the Overland Experience package. The seminars, decades of 4x4 and overland experience of attendees and instructors, and behind the wheel classes you can take with your own rig are priceless. We are all looking forward to seeing where you take your new rig once it’s complete. Safe adventures!!!

I grew up not far from where you finally found your camp site (Ridgecrest) we would go camping and off-roaring there when I was in HS, and you could spend and entire weekend there and MAYBE see two or three other groups. If this ever happens again in the van, air down your tires before trying to move more. Get them down to 20-25 psi and itll give the AT tires more snow to grip. Great work getting out though, those moments can get scary.

The Alabama Hills!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE. We used to wild camp there (with tents, pre-van era) in the 1990s. It was so pristine and beautiful, as only hardcore campers even knew about it. We NEVER left a thing behind; for whatever reason, people back then didn't need to read a book to know they shouldn't litter! I just hate lazy, gross, disgusting slobs so much. Ruining it for everyone else! Not acceptable! Thank you for doing your best to teach people a better way, Nikki.

Great job on getting unstuck. You should definitely look into 4x4 training. You used the equipment you had to get yourself safely out. One thing to always remember, make sure you know how to use your recovery gear. It’s very easy to break stuff and cause injuries (or worse). There are also very good 4x4 rescue groups for when you need more help. Keep creating content.

I like your videos and I’m not trying to hate, but I always wonder if all the KZbinrs friends/family enjoy being part of their constant need to film everything for content. Like filming at restaurants, gas stations, with family, etc. just seems like it’d be mad annoying, “put away your damn phone. Not everything needs to be recorded!” Again, not trying to be rude or anything, just wondering.
@GoodMicWork
@GoodMicWork Жыл бұрын
There aren't any KZbinrs who force family and friends to be on camera. If you see a friend, mom, sister, or whatever on camera you can rest assured they are ok with it. If anything, many KZbinrs are very understanding and courteous when it comes to filming, making sure that everyone is comfortable and anyone who's not will be respected. No one is just turning the camera on and saying "we're filming and there's nothing you can do about it!" For big channels like Nikki's, consent is always made before filming.

nice recovery from the snow, you made the right call backing all the way down. Not your first rodeo, I know. I got stuck in the snow and had to walk 4 1/2 miles out to find help. Lesson learned.

I've never been there, but that first stop overlook where Camper made all the friends reminds me a lot of the first bend on 64 coming down into Eagle Nest, NM on the way to Taos. All of those Rocky Mountain views.... whew.

You did a damn good job getting unstuck . Happened to me once in a wash. Went down to play then found out my transfer case wouldn't ingage the 4x4.

Oh and I'm sure you won't see this, but b/c of your video showing Overland Van Project, I looked into them and am now going to get a van built by them. So thanks for exposing me to this company!

I'm sure you have already figured this all out but with a 4x4, 4 wheel low is your friend when in tough situations off road. It lowers your ability to spin the tires and puts more torque to the drivetrain and slows things way down so that you are able to "power" through things. Looking forward to seeing your new ride all complete and on the road.

I was wondering if the van is 4x4 or awd. I live in Colorado and I have both. It didn't look like all 4 wheels were turning.

Nikki, Good job getting unstuck girl... I was impressed when you pulled out the recovery boards to get some traction👏👏. I read a lot of good suggestions such as airing down, lockers, chains, recovery classes, and others. One more I did not see- Consider taking advantage of your nice winch (14:57) in such sticky situations. Some nylon recovery strap to go around any tree and give you a little more reach would be handy. I have been off roading, Rving, and camping for many years and wanted to share my 2 cents with you. Here to help. Greetings from West Texas. Safe travels.... 🤠
