I find this channel fascinating, because I can't even begin to identify with the life I see. I would go absolutely stir crazy living in a huge city and a tiny space. I don't really like people as a general rule. I get to see another world watching this channel. I'd post my world, but it would bore everyone to tears. People in NYC are salary rich but house poor. Many are realizing that they can buy (as in pay off a mortgage and eventually OWN) a new home in say Columbus, Ohio or Durham, North Carolina with a two car garage, pool, front and back yard, two stories, 4 bedrooms, and all that, for the price of rent on a tiny box in NYC, which is still only a couple or hours away by plane. I know people who live in those sort of small towns, and live well and still, when they up and decide to go to NYC, just fly up for a few days. Financially, they're still saving money and get the best of both worlds. I even knew one guy who moved to a small town in Kentucky and with the money he saved, learned to fly and bought his own plane. If the mood hit him, he just flew up to NYC to go to the Met for the evening. Or where ever for that matter. When you get about 25, you really have to start thinking about what is best financially. But I know so many in NYC they say they won't leave.

Unfortunately they've taken any of the old charm & thrown it away except for the exterior of the building. The only reason I can see for them getting the rents they're charging is for the location. Everything in the apartments is basic. Boring, bland kitchens & a microwave on -the counter?? No in-unit laundry in either unit. No supermarket close by & that Target is only a Target express store with limited selection & it charges more than a regular full service Target. Cutting up those apartments to add an extra bedroom in each is the silliest idea I've heard of. You'll get more vang for your buck somewhere else.

As you described, the apartments are converted hotel rooms, but given the vintage of the building, each apartment has a slightly different layout. It would be best to rent an apartment with a street view rather than the interior, if you want abundant daylight and views. The neighbourhood has much to offer, if only for the flagship Macy's. The studios-my favourite-currently rent for $3300/month, which is slightly lower than other similar apartments in the area. Overall, this building is a really good value for the money.

What an awesome building. And for some reason I’m impressed with the rent. I guess I’ve gotten used to how expensive it is to live in NYC.

I love the location and the building but jeez it’s 4x my mortgage payment for 2200sf in Florida. It would be awesome to be right there in midtown tho

I know NYC is expensive. But, I don't think I could ever justify spending that much on an apartment. I can get a mansion here in W. PA for those rates.

or instead of spending $72k year on this you can save that and then buy a beautiful house in a town with even better views, people, air quality, community, basically everything except that it's not going to be a big city (which idk if that's a plus or minus). Still nice tour
