Just for reference, the minimum required size for a jail cell PER INMATE in new york was reduced from 75sqft to just 60sqft in 1985... this apartment is 62.64sqft of space. Not only is this apartment the size of a literal jail cell, but its smaller than a jail cell in that same city 35 years ago.

yeah my concern is the obviously shoddy AC/heating which can crap out at any point or with that water damage on the ceiling potential collapse happening all in such a small place with no where for the dog to go. On a hot day with AC not working and the skylight beaming the sun in I'm sure it can start becoming equivalent to locking a pet in the car level heat through out the day.

The highest population density in Denmark is in Frederiksberg with 12k people per square kilometer. Meanwhile New York City's population density is 11.3m per square kilometer - almost 100 times as high. Even Barcelona the most densely populated city in Europe is 'only' 53k people per square kilometer.

The messed up part is that the MINIMUM requirements for a new york prison cell housing just a single inmate is 60 square feet.. that apartment was 62.64 square feet. That apartment is literally the size of the MINIMUM requirement set by the state for prison cells containing a SINGLE person. This was also changed in 1985 from 75 sq ft, so there are likely still prisons in new york state with more space than this apartment.

Well, with minimum wage the way it is in new york, $650 per month is literally 30% of a person's income after taxes. For reference, financial planners and experts say that you should spend no more than 30% of your income on rent. When your cheapest option is literally right on the line between healthy spending and massive debt, I don't think young people have much of a choice in the matter.
