One thing I can say about the live streams that may not be considered concerning their success is that Linus is very engaging off the cuff. So, they're better than your average live streams. And, usually he goes off on tangents during these build streams that are actually really interesting, whether it's about his painting experience or his time at NCIX or inside views on what it's like to run a business. It's engaging, because it's just a guy that knows his stuff so well that it just flows out of his mouth easily and with lots energy. And usually that tends to happen in the middle. I could see it probably tapering off at the end as things are focused more on wrapping up the actual build. People aren't watching solely to see a computer get built; they're watching to the see the guy building it.
@aniruddhavispute2 жыл бұрын
yeah, this is so perfectly explained. so a plain pc build video would never get such interest. But it is Linus and his tangents that do the trick. even if it's a threadripper build or some wild custom watercooled build, at some point of time, you do loose interest in a stream. And that's basic human brain tendency. You can't focus on one thing for very long. But that's where Linus takes us away from the build, talks about some of his experiences, some of the fun or insightful stuff about his life, or even about some components that make these streams exciting. Often times, I've put on his streams while working and haven't even watched the complete video, I listen more. and if I hear something specific about the video, then I switch the tab to see what he's talking about.

Again this video proves that Premium is great for the Creators you watch. I get why Google doesn't explain Premium all to well because of the payout being larger but if this doesn't prove that it's really a good deal for both you as a sub and the Creators you watch I don't know what is.

16:55 YES PLEASE. IMO the production value and general quality of LTT means that most any topic that you cover will be entertaining, but not know what that topic is before I click is irritating. usually I don’t end up watching a video until KZbin has recommended it like 27 times or until you change the title to be more descriptive of the actual content. Though I understand that LTT is a business and unfortunately click-bait is what sells so I’m not too bothered and I will still watch your videos, Even if i may be a little frustrated by the mystique of the title.

I can attest to the algorithm thing. I've been binging some LTT content recently. I would pick several videos, then kinda just let the algorithm go on it's own. The videos I picked were usually the Intel upgrade stuff (Sarah's is great), some of the crazy build stuff, content more like that. Videos in the 15 minute range, more edited high engagement compact content stuff. After picking several videos, then letting YT do it's thing, it would always end up taking me to a build stream. Every single time. It would take 6-8+ videos to do it. But at the end, I was always ending up at a build stream. And it is consistent, been binging probably last 2 weeks and everyday, more than once a day, once I let YT pick on it's own I end up at a build stream. One day it probably did it 5 or 6 times. It's just interesting how YT was steering me towards that content, especially when it was so different than the first several videos I picked.
@jmanig762 жыл бұрын
What I find really fascinating about the algo is that I have a few VERY divergent interests (travel, tech, kpop and baseball to name a few) and yet it only takes one or two videos for the algo to switch my recommended to whatever topic I feel like watching at the moment. And then when I switch again it picks off on the new topic where I last left off as if nothing ever happened in between.
@Zeinzu22 жыл бұрын
I love seeing James on here more often. And I love watching him SNIPE the sponsor call-outs!! I think the behind the scenes angles and story lines like "Who has the best PC at LTT" is a big reason why the videos even did so well. MORE MORE MORE.

One thing I've noticed with these top performing videos of yours is, I fall asleep listening to KZbin videos in bed, and these are the videos that tend to pop up in my queue during autoplay, so while I have only really clicked and watched once, KZbin has certainly played a lot of those longer streams on numerous occasions for you. I just happened to be asleep during it.
@Goodgu39632 жыл бұрын
I love that you guys pulled back the curtain and shows us how the sausage was made. I think a lot of people assume KZbinrs make a LOT more money than they do, and seeing exactly how much the very top videos make on a massive and successful channel like LTT is extremely interesting. With you guys talking about the cost of Labs and buying new buildings and other projects like that, know that your tip videos only make tens of thousands makes me want to go buy some merch and help support what you do. I will always love cost breakdown videos from youtubers. I think it puts a hard perspective on the time and effort put into these projects and these channels.

This was the main reason I opted to go premium, it may not be much but it is more per head than adcents I believe. I love this type of content because it's a "no bullshit" approach to how rich/successful a person is. And it gives a person thinking about giving videos a shot, a glimpse of what's possible. . Side note: Up to a certain point I don't get why "face to face", most people don't like to discuss wages/salaries. EXPECT when it's an obvious stranger or a person you don't trust. Hell, I'm not even talking about specifics, even ball park numbers would be okay in my book.

Because often it's irrelevant. Unless the field itself is interesting (like this video) or the two people are in the same field it is only going to turn into a pissing contest.

I'm surprised it's not higher to be honest. Their merch must make a lot of the money to be paying 60 people or whatever presumably ~$60,000 to $150,000 a year or so. Also shows how single streamers can make so much money. $30,000 a video would go a lot further for a single person in their bedroom than a company making professional videos out of a commercial building.

The explanation for livestreams and youtube premium is that when a premium user downloads a livestream to watch later, youtube counts the whole video as watched and it pays as if the user watched the whole thing, even if they never end up watching it
@Blooest2 жыл бұрын
I can't say I would expect that a statistically significant number of people are downloading entire livestreams to watch offline. More than likely it's just premium members leaving streams on in the background while they do something else, as that's something I personally do a _lot_

I have been doing IT for 15 years now. I have a Masters in Information Systems, Bachelors in Networking and Security, and a Bachelors in Programming. In my life, I don't run into allot of people I can throw around networking and computer lingo where they actually understand what I am talking about. So when I hear you guys speaking geek, talking networking concepts, It is just music to my ears and I feel like I can be a part of your world.
