It blows my mind that an apartment for $5k+/mo has a washing machine with a door that only opens halfway. And folks are apparently OK with it.

I don't understand why landlords put in a beverage cooler in these small apartments. They put in a full-sized fridge - put your beverages in there and use the cooler space for a cabinet.

the tenants must be winos to rent that apartment. chilling wine = priority? space around your bed to actually make it up after sleeping? Not so much.

They are trying to high end the kitchen as they did the bathrooms by adding the stacked washer/Dryer. Although most people only do this when SELLING a property.. not RENTING. But I feel most of NYC is purely a landlord/ tenant City and anything being BOUGHT is in the Suburbs or New Jersey

It's called supply and demand. When you live in the most populated city (NYC), there's not enough housing to go around. So realtor's know they can hike up prices because people need a place to live.

@marinemom6288 Today's Cashisms also include, "You could live like the King of the cavemen down here" and "You can stand on the windowsill and visit with your eyes." I originally started following Cash because it gave me a glimpse into NYC scenery I will only see in movies and on TV. When the apartments are not that great, I still enjoy his sense of humor. If he would stop slamming things around so much and (Yikes!) standing on doorknobs, that would be good too.

I am not sure why they bother putting in an oven or stove since the kitchen sinks are so small you can’t wash an average size pot or pan. Forget about a cookie sheet, baking dish or crock pot, you will be eating microwave meals and takeout.

The first one, the sixth floor walkup with the ankle-breaker stairs and ridiculous bedrooms, is a no for me. The second one was marginally better, and the third one perhaps the best of the lot, even with questionable egress for one of the dungeon bedrooms. But paying a steep price to share a small walk-up space (even though they had laundry) isn't the way I'd choose to live.
@fannycraddock99
@fannycraddock99 Жыл бұрын
#1 is a no-no! 6 floor walk up plus 1 more to get up those stairs which I'd never get up! #2 is OK but I'm not in love with it. #3 is probably the best but to be honest I'd would not live in any of those. Thanks Cash, just the one oops today!

Imagine that there are apartments that exist 'below' ground, because the owner/landlord has converted the basement into individual rooms to rent that is no larger than a walk-in closet, and the rent goes between $2000 to $6000 a month.

In the 2nd apartment, the landlord should've chosen a smaller sink and not one with that cabinet at the bottom. For the money they're asking you shouldn't have to squeeze in the bathroom sideways and you should be able to open the washing machine all the way.

HEY! I was FIRST today! LOL!!! (It's the little things, folks...) Anyway, I LOVED all of the sarcastic commentary today, Cash! You are indeed very talented as a writer and performer! All three of these units were a "NO!" for me! The first apartment was more exciting outside than inside, and it makes no sense to me to pay $5K/month for the privilege to walk up and down six flights every day. The second apartment (at the same rental rate) was worse with that crazy bathroom and if the renter gained 5-10 lbs., they'd lose mobility in the space and would have to move--if they could get out. That last unit with the basement at $5600/month... definite "NO"! Too close to a trash area and therefore the potential for unwelcome (and non-paying) guests. What was up with that TV mount? I person could hit their head walking up and down the stairs and the TV seemed quite a distance from where someone could watch comfortably.

So if rent is supposed to be 1/3 of monthly income, people are expected to bring home $15,000+ each month? That means you need a salary of around $285K. That's just nuts for an apartment that small. A $285K salary in most other places around the country will get you a nice house with a few acres of land.
