I just came back last Friday Belize and the food was so good. I cleaned my plate every time. I preferred the local restaurants as they were less expensive and more tasty.

Most information on KZbin on Belize seems to be from tourists that fly in for a few days and then fly out so this was great. That and info pushed by real estate agents. I’d love to hear more!

When I lived in Belize (Seine Bight, a Garífuna village, on the Placencia peninsula), the immigration office in Independence would allow me to extend my visa for three months at a time. I didn’t have a car, and used the public buses to get in and out of town, or my bike, or just walk,

Sure thing - I'm actually working on a video with 5 areas to consider! Also do you like quiet or active? Definitely depends on what you like. Quiet would be a place like Punta Gorda, in the deep south, or active would be the Cayo district, or along the south coast. More to come in next Sunday's video (next week).

What are your thoughts on secret beach area?
@tourismlens25 күн бұрын
I went there once to check it out for the day, for my guidebook pre-pandemic (2019). I didn't love it then and was surprised to see the level of development taking place. But can't speak to how it is now as it's been a while. It has probably transformed even more.

Living in a small island like that with just golf carts makes me think Gilligan's Island. If like to be more involved with local culture, if possible. I'm sure it was cool in many ways, but limited in terms of wanting to see other natural parks, to and cultural events. Nice video. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for watching! And for sharing. Yes It all depends on what you enjoy, for sure. I already had spent so much time elsewhere and I knew that's where I preferred to be, plus frequent visits to the city where I also had friends.

Thinking of moving to Belize? 🇧🇿
@Br0adCastYourS3lfАй бұрын
Yes! In 4 years and 3 months I will retire and I’m looking for a warm place (most of the year), more quiet place than a big city (but close to a city/town) with great healthcare, and a safe and stable life. I’d also like to grow my own veggies (domestic and European). Do you think that Belize would be a great match?
@tourismlensАй бұрын
@@Br0adCastYourS3lf I have a follow up Belize video coming up on Sunday with more details about 5 areas I recommend, and the ones I wouldn't, and answer this for you! Put your notification on or remember to come back and watch:). But in your case I'd say it depends what you mean by "great healthcare" - do you mean basic annual check ups and you are in general good health? Or a place where you would be cared for easily in case of a major complication? those are the things to research. So it's a yes if it's the first but no for the latter. As we age too, it depends - we have to think about access to health much more than anything else and not get caught up in the lifestyle part.
@Br0adCastYourS3lfАй бұрын
@@tourismlens I will definitely watch your follow up video. I have an autoimmune condition (RA) and don’t know if it qualifies as a major complication. It’s all under control now. But when I need professional medical help, I need it immediately to prevent further damage caused by my immune system. That’s why I still want to stay close to a city/town.

I visited Belize at least twice for close to 6 months each time before Covid times. PROS : 1 the rural living (no hurry) 2. the friendliness of the people 3 close to southern mexico CONS : 4 no real night life except on the island 5 housing comfort sub par (need for airconditioner)

Belize has a Level 2 security travel advisory from the US State Department. Some areas are quite sketchy. Per the warning, most crimes remain unresolved and unprosecuted.

@SkyDivine8 I understand it's her view. But she hasnt experianced belize as it really is. Yes the tourist view i get that. But i can tell you that aint the real belize. Real belizians struggle yes there are some fifty rich bit the majority struggles to survive. And it's different races that kinda work together but still are separate. Hence I mentioned the Mennonites.

@@Superliegebeest0Thanks for your comment - I did completely forget the Mennonite communities (which I visited several times) and it was unintentional. As for the struggle, sadly that is true for most places in the world today that inequality runs deep, so I hear that. But this video is for those who clearly can afford to move and are considering doing so, which is a privilege in itself.
