so u are aproaching ur first winter in greece, this will be for sure an interesting experience as most ppl think that greece is allways sunny and warm. crete , southpeleponese and islands like rhodes are good choices for wintertime because they are relatively mild. the best choice u did was not going into the big cities like athens or thessaloniki, like many others do, but go into the more remote world of greece, which is by far the better way to experience the paradise greece is, even though crete is ofc an allyear destination for tourists and has lost alot of its former charm, it has still wild and empty lanscapes with pure nature and i would make a suggestion to try out next spring to buy a tent and do a few days of camping in the wild, it will be unforgettable. good luck for ur next 6 months.

Foreigners living in Greece only sometimes appreciate or show what the place offers to the mind and spirit. Yet, Greece - and Crete in particular - is a cultural superpower. History, mythology, music, theatre, dance, poetry, folklore, visual arts, and political, social, philosophical, religious, scientific and technological thought have been developing for millennia. Some achievements have been defused in both East and West and have become part of our collective subconscious. In contrast, others are unapproachable because of the language barrier. Learn as much of the language as possible and delve into that culture. You will get much more pleasure than the nature, food and lifestyle of this magnificent place can give you. It's a promise. Best wishes for your channel!

This summer was the hottest we have had in the last few years and it started very early (high temperatures from the end of May). You will adapt to it as the years go by, but this kind of extended heatwaves are unbearable for us locals as well. KZbin has made the world believe that Greek cuisine is gyros and souvlaki. This is completely wrong. Mediterranean diet (i.e. Cretan/Greek diet) is mainly plant based with fish as one of the main sources of protein. Legumes also play a very important part in Greek cuisine. Meat should be consumed rarely (back in the old days it would only be consumed during major holidays, i.e. 2-3 times a year). I wish for you two to grow old on Crete if this is also what you want! May the Gods be at your side at all times!
