The fruits of this cactus are called "φραγκόσυκα / fragosyka / prickly figs" in Greek 10 + 1 Reasons prickly pears are considered a superfood: 01) Their increased fiber and pectin content lowers blood glucose. Hence it works against diabetes. 02) Its rich content of antioxidants turn prickly pears into fruits - protectors against cancer and other diseases in joints, eyes, nerves, etc. 03) The malic and citric acid contained in prickly pears contribute to smooth digestion. 04) Prickly pears contribute to the control of our body weight as they cause the feeling of satiety (due to fiber) and at the same time they are low in calories. 05) They have a diuretic effect and thus treat fluid retention. It is of particular importance that their diuretic action does not cause an imbalance in electrolytes. 06) Prickly pears contain potassium which helps to reduce blood pressure and betalains which enhance the health of the circulatory system. So their consumption is related to the health and good functioning of the heart. Ongoing research shows that prickly pears are associated with lowering LDL cholesterol and triglycerides. 07) Eating prickly pears before drinking alcohol acts against intoxication and combats its symptoms (eg nausea, dry mouth, headache, etc.). 08) Their rich content of antioxidants strengthens our immune system. 09) Prickly pears are also useful for athletes as they contribute to rapid muscle recovery after training. 10) They have an anti-inflammatory effect thanks to their betaine content. Prickly pear leaves are also beneficial. Specifically: They fight sand in the kidneys. They strengthen the function of the heart. They contribute to the reduction of blood glucose. They have an antidiarrheal effect.

The irons you see on the roof of some houses are actually extensions of the foundation to make a plate and build another floor. Nowadays its more convenient and there are other ways to extent a property but 30-40 years ago it was a common practice. In Cyprus/Greece they used to do it mainly for the next generation (In order for their kids to build right above them). Even if you had another plot to build you might choose to be next to your parents as we are very family oriented. Another great way of saying you might get some help from the grand parents in raising your children 😁

❓Would you buy land or an old house?🤔
@Butch_Breaker
@Butch_Breaker 2 сағат бұрын
Why don't you buy an old house with a plot bigger than 400m2 put one of those prefab tiny houses from that guy you visited some time ago .Live in it until you finish the house .When the house is finished you rent out the tiny house on airbnb.
@Sunpire

We love the prefabricated houses, but they do need a building permit, that's why we are considering the old house option. We are still researching, but it seems that it's a long wait to get a building permit.

ION is the best chocolate in Greece. About the watermelon the stem that has to be brown in a lie, simply not true. I chose stem that is still green. It has to have the yellow/white spot meaning that watermelon was lying on the field long enough. the most important for me is to knock on it and (hard to describe in words) but you have to get the vibe and the sound when you knock it that is full of water. If the sound is dull and feels empty it is overriped.

As a greek I would say 100% first start with a good civil engineer with experience, they know the ins and outs of this process and laws around building. These guys you go are amateurs on laws. Tell him what you want to do and that you interested to make for you the permit when you find the plot. Whats your limits on places and how far you can go from a city. I think a good civil engineer will guide you though all the process and tell you the stages plus options except he is to busy. I am not sure if you need a lawyer. You will defenently need though a "symvoleografos" which is a "special lawyer" and will make legal the transaction and is mandatory for finalizing the process. They are very busy is a closed group and you go when you are about to finalize sale. I am not 100% sure but i think "symvoleografos" is responsible to tell you if there is any problem with the plot. There are websites from municipalities that show I think were you can build and how much and what height on particular land if its registered for building. Generaly usually if you ask the one who selling it will tell you "sindelestis domisis" (percentage you can build on the plot) and height. Same areas have the same height and percentage usually. Your civil engineer also will tell you exactly when you give him exact place on the map so you can check after if its correct with what the seller told you. Also there are exclusions.. for example if a plot is big enough can maybe get a permit even if its not on a building area. You need to ask your civil engineer for this. Also announce to locals that you are interested to buy something in a that village or any other village. Some could be made for sale but not listed (in villages) or they might find you someone that wants to sell. There are some properties on villages that people might not interested to keep and at same time might not very interested to sell or to take action. As for costs: Building permit civil engineer IKA (taxes on labor cost) Connection with powerline (if you are further without power poles, electricity company will charge you extra to bring line ). On the video seems opposite to plot a house with electricity so on this one connection will be easy. There are villages they have sewage system, this plots seems a little bit outside of village? Else you need a pit. Building I am not on the market searching, But I believe you can find better plot in some village with 30k if you search more or some field that you can build due to size (or being on main road plus size). This plot looks too narrow.. too rocky and not very flat and small. And finally as a rule of thumb.. go first to a civil engineer and have a talk 😅

And to note, you're witnessing a system torn apart by a decade of forced austerity policy, making Greece an example of - to scare the rest of the EU into a horrible economic policy (late German fin minister tried to force, Mr Schäuble*). Myself I served in the Greek Medical Corp as an officer, for my mandatory mil duty. Helped modernize army IT & infra... Was hoping to bring some of that to the public healthcare system too. Current gov is still trying to tear it apart, favoring private healthcare.

In a greek village you will find the true meaning of community like you have never imagined. That has some drawbacks (everyone wants to know about everyone) but if you are about village life you will love it. Try and live a whole year there before buying to see what's it like during the seasons. Winters can be very quiet. You said 500 people is a small village, that's a BIG village for greek standards. In most greek villages it's just a handful of people in the winter sadly

Hi guys ! Greetings from Romania! I'm glad you took into consideration a old house. Another advantage of an old stone house is that it is connected to earth and will maintain a decent temperature inside in summer, also in winter. I would like a house with a half-buried ground floor where I can escape the heat in the middle of the day. But as you gather information on this trip of searching, you will decide what is best for you. Most important is not to hurry, take it in Greek style: siga siga...

Hi Amalia and Raul, greetings from Montreal, Canada. If you decide to buy land be sure that there is no archeological items found on the land after the digging starts, because then the Archeological Branch of the Greek Government could reposes the land without any compensation. If that is the case it automatically becomes property of the Greek Government, and only after years and turmoil they MIGHT release it back to you. Best is buy an old house and renovate it. In Greece you can take your time to renovate, I think up to 3 years. Anyway GOOD LUCK in your adventure, great video's BTW!!!!!!!
@Sunpire
@Sunpire 2 күн бұрын
Thank you very much for watching us and for advice 💙💙🙏🤗. I read online that if the government holds your land for Archeolgical purposes for up to 15 months, you get nothing. But if it more than that, they will pay the value of the land before it was possessed.

100 in 100, im excited, espectacular! I will try to make some research also for you online, who knows maybe i find something interesting you overlooked. Before my father passed away a year ago, i was on exactly the same position like you guys, even worse because i had an long time relationship coming to and end, I hit rock bottom in my live, boredom was gnawing at me and wanted to create something total new so I can live an independent live, traveling, farming, evolve, we are on this live to evolve right? If you never find something in Crete, there are interesting areas too, for example, Euboea is similar to Crete but greener much less populated and close to Athens, but you can find cheap land, in the southwest area like Marmari, Karystos (look up Karystos Villas for how the area look) its similar dry like crete but on your north you have extreme green and mountains also there is a daily connection to Attica you can be in Athens in less then 1h. But i absolutely understand why you want to stay in Crete and especially Chania (eastern of Rethymno it seems to be much cheaper than Chania) If you dont know the site, check XE.GR change to english and go on property. Search for land or buying home and go to "more" give your price range start on 5k-55k (not 0 because some expensive villas are on "0€". Also go down to *detached home* otherwise it show you also apartments without garden. The searching map is very good. There is also Spitogatos.gr but its less intuitive for searching and harder to find low cost property. I am a Landlord now in my birthplace-town with 2 plots of land, so if i managed to do it, you can do it also. Its not by the sea sadly but next to Meteora and Koziakas, and im looking forward to build a small wooden house from bhs-kyriazis.gr or similar ones. I dont have an high income, i do 2-3 jobs and work also as online texter for German websites for passive income, my income has fallen sharply because of too many writers and AI!!! Good luck and keep asking people because i know many properties for sale in some areas and i never found them on XE.gr or other sites. 👌 edit. dont forget to check on buildable if you use XE.gr*

A tip for the correct pronunciation is when you see a sign of a region that has Greek and English, in the Greek word you can see which letter is stressed because it has the consonant ' above it, in this case Άπτερα it is stressed on the first letter "Α" so it is A-ptera, not Apt-E-ra.

😊 hallo miteinander.
