Today we are doing something unique: we are going to focus on what it is like to live in the Glasshouse Skylofts, in downtown Winnipeg. So right now, we are in Downtown Winnipeg - with great walkability and proximity to everything and behind me, are the gorgeous Glasshouse Skylofts. If you are looking for a more urban and sophisticated place to rest your head, then this is a place that you will want to check out! This building is a great downtown option and comes complete with security entry and a concierge to greet you as you enter! Let’s go inside!
This project is unique - largely inspired by high-rise lofts in bigger cities, where the convenience and luxury of a more urban lifestyle is truly appreciated. It was the first of its class for Winnipeg, and one of many parts of the revitalization of Winnipeg’s Downtown.
The complex itself advertises more boutique-style living, with an executive concierge service and two elevators. Yes, that’s right. Concierge! This complex was designed with luxury in mind - and with that comes very high-end finishes in every unit which include stone countertops, European cabinetry, 9’ high exposed concrete ceilings, steel columns, industrial barn doors, tile backsplashes in the bathrooms, and hardwood floors. Also worth noting is that each unit comes with insuite laundry. But truly, the best part about this complex is not something within the complex at all. It is the backdrop. Get up into the higher-level floors, and you have sweeping, unimpeded views all the way from downtown Winnipeg to the outskirts of town. It is truly one of the best spots to catch a Winnipeg sunset!
Hate getting into a cold car in the winter? If you live in this building, you have access to rent underground (and heated) parking spaces at the ALT hotel for a monthly fee. Or, if you are lucky enough to find a unit with its own dedicated parking spot, then you have hit the parking lottery!
This building also represents a great opportunity for those that want to invest. Not just because of its primo location, but also because of the rules/amenities within the complex. Many units are rented on AirBNB, some 2-bedroom units fetching around $200 per night.
Now let’s talk about building amenities - because there are many. First, we should mention this complex is connected to the ALT Hotel - which already comes with many amenities. The Merchant Kitchen in the ALT Hotel, offers street-food-style dishes and is an incredibly popular spot for those living within the complex. If you are a person that likes to host business meetings, the ALT hotel also allows provides amenities perfect for meeting spaces from casual to elaborate events anywhere from 13 to 150 people. Amenities within Glasshouse Skylofts include a 24-hour gym, a dedicated theater (that you can rent for private functions?), a rooftop patio and lounge with 21st floor views, bike storage, as well as dedicated storage with some units.
Now let’s talk a little bit about location. You are literally steps from one of Winnipeg’s largest indoor venue - the Canada Life Center - home of the Winnipeg Jets! Hargrave street market - where a huge group can congregate downtown when major sporting events like those Jets games are happening. You also have a whole slue of amazing restaurants right at your doorstep.
One of my favourite things about this project, is how convenient it is to get anywhere downtown. On a hot summer day, enjoy a stroll down Portage on your way to work. Hate being outside in Winnipeg in the dead of January? In the winter months, you can likely forgo much of the outdoor walking and opt for the sky bridge with access to Centrepoint as well as many other skybridge route options.
