Fun fact, there are pothole crews working 365 days a year filling them and you should use the report a pothole tool, they have to be filled within 14 days of being reported! Best part, if the city knows about a pothole and your car gets damaged, you can get compensation.

For the most part, Edmonton has very little density in mature and established neighborhoods. If you are willing to do a big Reno, you can get a pretty sweet deal. Lots of interest in South central Edmonton around Duggan, Rideau Park, Greenfield etc. Nice big lots with lots of greenspace and easy access to the henday, Whitemud & Calgary trail.

A few more pros and cons: - The city bylaw; shoveling snow and clearing ice and snow from your driveway during winter months. - You need a good and reliable 4 X 4 or all-wheel drive car/truck to drive safely on icy/snowy roads. - You need a set of snow tires with STUDS - You always need to carry your hot coffee mug anywhere you go - Windshield cracks are very common - You may mentally get exhausted, once or twice a year during winter months, sun destinations are a MUST.

I had the pleasure of living in Edmonton for 6 years 1990 to 1996. I loved it out there. Some of my best memories. Oh my the festivals especially. I loved Klondike days Sour Dough Raft Race. It was like one big water fight. So much fun. Loved the Fringe Festival too with all the buskers. Loved working at West Edmonton Mall at Mariposa. Loved the water park the shopping the dining there too. Great place. Hated the cold, but it was a dryer cold not like my home province of Ontario where it is so cloudy and damp in the winter. I miss the sunshine there and when I came back to Ontario felt depressed because of less sun. I got so use to the sun being out almost every day. I lived in all different spots in Edmonton but especially loved living in downtown. I could walk to work at the WCB every day saved on gas. I loved shopping on White Ave too. All in all Edmonton is a great city and yes very friendly. I remember people holding doors open for me at stores etc. Also I loved biking along the river valley. Miles of paved trails along the river. So many good memories. Miss that place! Thanks for sharing it was nice to see that place again! Oh one last thing loved going to the Oilers games and I got to touch the cup at the airport as they brought it home in 1990 :) Lucky break I was in the airport that day!

Did you know that in year 2000 there was some kind of a world games held in Edmonton. A British journalist termed the city as Deadmonton as there is no life after 6 pm or so in Edmonton. People were so pissed off that they took him on a chopper ride, entertained him. He appreciated all of that - warm nature of Edmontonians but his opinion about the city did not change :-) While that it true (lived there for 11 years and then subsequently moved to Montreal) but the cost of living and infrastructure is way better than Montreal. The only drawback that I find is lack of opportunities in Edmonton (at least for my skills).

I am a former Edmontonain. The last time I was there was 1969, and have not been there since. I now live in the U.S. and love it. I've been here for almost 30 years, nice city. Friendly people,but like Pacino said, the one ultra pet peeve of mine is the ongoing road construction of mindless projects in the summer. We live in the southeast, and maybe like all other big cities, we have all the amenities within 6-7 minutes walking such as banks, schools, grocery stores, pharmacy, coffee shops, gyms, Walmart, Home Depot so you don't have to drive 10- 15 minutes for your essentials. The weather?....well,you have to expect it, makes you appreciate the summer that much more. Luckily, we have the Oilers to get us thru. The crime rate?... I've never been mugged or witness to anything,even tho I go to quite a few Oiler games taking the LRT. I'll repeat, we have the Oilers, Connor Mcdavid and this ain't Calgary, thank God!

@the_wolak1489 Yes, but only for a few days, then the temperature will be -10°C then down to further to the coldest, so it can reach up to -52°C windchill Here in Edmonton can be that too cold, but it's dry cold differently with wet cold. Sorry for my grammar, as I still learn English is my third language. Trust me, Edmonton is a cool city it's very quiet and nice.

Regarding the crime, there are 4 jails surrounding Edmonton. A lot of the crime is random and violent, especially on the LRT and public transit. Downtown is basically a no go zone and same for north Edmonton on a weekend or weekday evening. It's also a gateway city for drugs to the north and elsewhere.

The area around NAIT is Kingsway. The whole neighborhood is infested with cockroaches, mice and there are syringes in the grass. It's overpriced too. NAIT is a wonderful school however. Besides that, I didn't live in Edmonton for too long.

The LRT goes to both NAIT and McEwan. You can rent anywhere near the LRT stations to reach the campus. As long as you don't go outside alone at late night, it's safe.

Moving to Edmonton in a few weeks and haven't picked out a place yet. Looked on Kijiji for a basement suite and found a place in Windermere for 900 a month and 30% utilities. I am not committed to it but I'm leaning on it. 32 male single and Fort McMurray commuter. Coming from living in Yellowknife NorthWest Territories for 13 years so I'm pretty excited to say the least. Some people have hate for this city, but it allll depends where you come from, because there is a lot worse. My rotation is 2 weeks in Fort Mac then I get 1 week off to come back to Edmonton and then it repeats. @@tashaabashaa I moved to Edmonton to work in the oil patch in 2015. I left in 2019 because work was sparse and the cost of living is ridiculously high. I know there's an uptick in the oil and gas sector. However, I am not coming back because the industry treats its workers like disposable labor. More specifically, everyone is expected to work out of town for 24 days on, 4 days off, 12 hours per day. You are paid hourly. So don't expect to earn any money during slow months. And if you don't get along with your boss, you're immediately swapped out with someone else. So I moved to France. I was utterly shocked at how easy it is to find a good job and the cost of living is so much lower. Other perks include: climate, food, smaller distances between cities & landmarks, there's just more to do, more paid vacation days, and the working conditions put Canada to shame.

It depends on where you go. Downtown is quite dangerous late at night. The south side to the river is safer. Don't go outside alone at night. You will be safe.

Lolol this dude made that city look amazing dont get me wrong it has some beautiful spots. But. But... be truthful 100% edmonton night life is boring when compared to other major cities.the down town core can be very sketchy. Chinatown is horrible and nasty looking. They recently got the new arena that somewhat helped the revitalized the city. The architecture is very boring and dated.they always cheap out on the design for example . The new public library lol..that winter gets low as -40 with some nasty wins that cracks car windshield from those sand pepples on the roads .Photo radar everywhere. You can barely enjoy the summer with all those mosquitoes chewing at you.the festivals are generic and always the same shit every year. I live and work there for 6 years and move back to Toronto by the way so I know what I'm talking about.

This video is comical. Ski hills are tiny just for kids and mountains are 4+ hours away in winter. Festival city means there are 2-3 tired festivals every summer, but if you are in Vancouver metro you will find many many events every weekend across the lower mainland. Friendly atmosphere is not what I found. The locals keep to their local friends, and many others are transient workers or just there temporarily for school. Very few not from Edmonton actually stay there unless they are trapped due to work or school. Job market is terrible compared to Vancouver or Toronto.

Also no ocean and nowhere near a mountain. The local university is one of the worst and one one knows about it outside of Alberta.

Edmontons good but the sketchy people aren't, you'll run into a few of them here and there and the LRT and busses are kind of ghetto, there's gang violence but other than that it's a great place to live

Edmonton is polluted and surrounded by industrial plants and "refinery row". It's grey, ugly, and downtown is dead and crime ridden. Compare it to Vancouver and there's no comparison. River valley is filled with homeless people and mosquitoes in the summer for about two months, and very dry. If you like rainforests or lush vegetation you won't find it in Edmonton. The dry air is bad for your lungs and skin.

I'm so sorry for Canada. Most things about a good Canada are not true, Including clean cities - beaches, and forests. It's a big lie. The first time I arrived in Vancouver in 2018, I was shocked. As soon as I left the airport door, I saw tissue, disposable glasses, and other garbage left in the city. The further I went, the more I saw them. Before I moved to Canada, I lived in Georgia, Armenia, Turkey, Serbia, The United States, and for a short time in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Netherlands, Germany, and England, but I have never seen the amount of garbage that people leave in different Canadian cities. Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, and Quebec are no less than Vancouver. Canadian and Canada Governments don't care about this tragedy. I think everything that says about Canada as a clean and powerful culture is not true. You don't need to travel to Canada to see this. Just watch some videos about walking in downtown Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, and Quebec. You will find the truth. Impossible for you to walk in a Canadian city and you don't see the dark side of that. Everywhere you will see garbage. You will never see this in Europe, Australia, the United States, Japan, and Korea. This amount of waste is not even seen in Malaysian, Indonesian, or Thailand cities. It is impossible for you to use public transport and not see a lot of garbage at stations or on the route. You will be surprised to find a lot of garbage even in the woods - by the rivers and on the beaches in Canada. I wish the Canadians woke up and had no enmity with their country.

Jesus Christ. Culture isn't only how clean or unclean the streets are. We have a very strong and vibrant culture. Honestly? That's almost racist tbh. We have more northern forest that just about any country in the world btw and one of the lesser population density as well with a lot of small towns. Yes we have a garbage problem, but man! @@jas_bataille, I just say cleaning garbage on the streets, roads, woods, and parks is a big problem in this country. it seems nobody cares about that. neither government nor citizens. you can not see any place in a city without garbage. it is impossible you don't see a piece of trash in less than 200 meters on every sidewalk. this ugly scene is the same in a big city or small town but in other western countries may be seen just in limited places. you never see in Australia, Newzealand, Japan, or North European country. it should have some cultural reason in Canada. I don't like to be unfair, I only try to help in my share. the truth is bitter especially when it becomes an everyday issue. these are regardless of homelessness, roads with awful asphalt, broken sidewalks, nasty houses, drugs, increase crimes and a lot of addicts in every place.

I lived in edmonton for decades and there is always Construction due to EXPANSIONS mainly on improving highways as city keeps growing. Crime is mainly 100-114st area STAY OFF 107st and 118th ave area

You haven't travel to other cities in Canada traffic in Edmonton is nothing it's one of the reasons I moved to Edmonton 15 years a go you didn't mention all the homeless people or the drug problem you're way off the mark when it comes to the snow in Edmonton compared to Montreal I have lived in both cities Edmonton gets way more snow in the West Edmonton mall is not the largest mall in North the mall of America in Minneapolis is much bigger it's not hard to fact check anything that you say do your homework before you lie

Don't MOVE to Edmonton!! It's literally the worst city in Canada. I was there for a year and it was the biggest mistake of my life moving there. I left last week and i'm so relieved! Homeless people everywhere, druggies everywhere, downtown Edmonton is sooo ugly...nobody even goes there. Horrid infrastructure. The city is so dirty. Plus winter lasts until the end of may!! It's just a low quality of life all-around.
