It is always interesting what people from other countries find remarkable about our way of life: drinkable tap water, natural lighting and bifunctional windows/balcony doors, just like the lift doors in buldings of this period (the house you are showing semms to be more like from the 70ies, I think), are so common to us that a German person showing anyone around his place would not even mention them.

The kitchen style is called Frankfurter Küche and the idea behind is, that the wife, who is alone at home, and prepares the meal for the working husband, can easily reach to both sides of the kitchen. Nowadays we have "Wohnküchen" which are bigger and allow to cook, eat and live as a whole family. More like an american kitchen.

Specially those two function windows. Loved them the first time I saw them back in 2011 when they were renovating the whole complex windows where I was staying. I'm not sure if in Germany it's the same. But in Sweden they name the houses and apartments by kitchen, bathroom and living spaces. Like that place would be a kitchen plus one bathroom plus 3 rooms. You see if you use all of them as bedrooms or dinning room or living room. But they name the amount of rooms not the use as in other countries. Great video. Loving your smile and hope you and the family are having an amazing time. Keep enjoying

I don't think that Germans are aware of the public relations boon it was to have Americans servicemen and their families stationed in Germany. Most found Germany and Germans similar to America and Americans and what was different, they found admirable. Many came to love Germany and its people and they spread the word back in the United States, helping to lessen the negative, outdated stereotypes that lingered (and still linger) there. Heck, many have opted to stay in Germany.
