Lakewood’s an awesome city to live! Crime isn’t too bad but we have our issues from time to time. It’s relatively safe. We have many diverse restaurants and lots of independent stores that are very unique.

I heard Lakewood crime is relatively light. It's what you would expect with a younger crowd though. It's not a retirement community. Also policing is quite good, response time is 2 minutes or less, usually 30 seconds. Of course let's not forget the saying, when seconds count police are only minutes away. I have a CCW but I really don't want to have to defend myself with lethal force against some 20 year old inebriated punk making a foolish decision so the mediocre crime severity does put me in a pickle.

@@marksmith4892 , I really like living in Lakewood also, it’s such a great diverse community with so much to offer, and you’re practically in the city itself. All types of people living together. I know there are lots of people that feel the same way, real estate values have gone through the roof, with many properties selling in days, as well as any new construction going up, (and it’s not cheap by any means), seems to be sold out within a matter of a couple months. That says a lot about desirability.

Lakewood is an absolute great place to live, it is so well situated, it’s extremely diverse and welcoming, it has a little bit of everything, whether you want a relatively affordable rental or a very expensive home, the lake is its neighbor, and you can get into downtown Cleveland in five minutes if you want to on the Shorway . Nice people, of all types which I personally like. It’s also relatively affordable compared to so many other parts of the country. I don’t find it to be particularly unsafe either, of course there’s some crime, but that’s almost unavoidable in any inner ring suburb of any city, in fact it’s pretty low.
@wyattearpswoman8383 жыл бұрын
I lived there and personally experienced pretty high crime. Also, there is 12 miles of shoreline with no public beach. There were 3 car jackings in one day a week or two ago. And it isn't just on the "eastern edge" that the crime is happening, btw. The property taxes are ridiculous, and the schools are under-performing. The people were pretty rude as well. Anyway, just our experience. We moved out of state a week before the murder spree started early this year.
@brenrenn83063 жыл бұрын

I could see the airport from her apartment window and told her I'd walk there to rent the car. I almost died! And this was in September! If you were near the coast, it was not so bad. Also my swim in her pool was nixed as an alligator decided to sun itself by the pool. Then there was the bugs!

Hey! Just to clarify. Property taxes are 2.64% of the assessed property value here in Lakewood. Property values will be assessed in 2024 by the county. Odds are, if I pull up 5 homes that just sold for $225,000 in Lakewood, they are all likely to have different property taxes based on what value they were last assessed at. Regardless though, it is a lot of dollars.

Lakewood was the most densely populated city between New York and Chicago, when I was growing up there in the 1960s and 70s, and there were 70,000 people residing in the city. I lived there from 1967 to 1975, 1977 to 1980, and 1989 to 1997. So all together, I spent about nineteen years in Lakewood. It was also, in those days, one of the safest cities in the country for it's size. When we walked around late at night in the 1970's, the biggest problem we faced was running into a policeman! Now, the east end of Lakewood has become, the ridiculous term you like so much... "Sketchy," and it's no longer the safest city anywhere within it's borders. Gee... I Wonder WHY?

We need to be within 30 minutes of the hospital but we'd prefer a nice, quiet, walkable neighborhood. We don't have kids but are bringing our 3 dogs with us. We'd prefer somewhere that's fully furnished with electric, cable, water, and all the monthly bills included in the price. Any advice would fantastic. Thank you.

I'm actually looking at this area because my husband and I may need to move to Cleveland for a year or two if he makes it on the lung transplant list for Cleveland Clinic. We are in evaluation process right now and have been traveling back and forth to Cleveland from Duluth MN. I keep running into apartments for rent in Lakewood area hence finding videos about this area. Reminds me somewhat of Duluth as we are also right on a Great Lake, Lake Superior, and it is an old city with large style houses. Would love any tips on apartments to rent, grocery shopping in the area, safe versus unsafe areas, bus system there. Though we were hoping to rent a furnished short term style apartment, I am now thinking unfurnished would be cheaper for our situation since we would be there more than a few months. We have a dog but if we can't find a place we can have here there, we may place her with family for a while. We do need to be within one hour of Cleveland Clinic so this seems like an ideal area.

Very cool & Exciting! Lakewood is a very dense area with tons of home and apartments to choose from. Nearly 50% of the residents here are renters! The city is only growing with popularity so both home prices and rental prices are increasing. I wouldn't be necessarily worried about an unsafe area, overall its a great town. Most of everything is found on Madison and Detroit Ave. For public transportation, look into the RTA system here.

If you like that, great, but don't think you have the option to commute from place to place easily.
