Sorry, just found your channel so bit late to this video. I've lived in London all my life, Central London is extremely bad for crime. It's a great place to visit but I wouldn't recommend anyone live there. The thing about London is that you are less than an hour from any part of the city thanks to the Tube so living in the outta boroughs is definitely a feasible option and they usually have less crime there. But if you do need to live in Central, maybe look to somewhere like Islington or Kentish Town. Thieves on mopeds/bicycles are definitely a major issue. One trick I learnt a while ago was to never walk on the curb. If you walk closer to the buildings, the thief will have a harder time targeting you as they will need to mount the pavement. It shouldn't be like this but unfortunately it is. You have the right mindset, be wary of anyone around you that you don't know. This is half the reason why we don't talk to people when on the Tube (the other half is because we are just arseholes 😄) Whatever you decide to do, stay safe.

Really sorry to hear your experience. I'm a Londoner, strangely and luckily for me I have only been part of one mugging when I was very young, I was threatened with a knife (but managed to escape). Just like you mention, I was super alert afterwards, high anxiety, had knee-jerk reactions when strangers got close, heart sank when I saw individuals who looked similar. I haven't had an incident again in the last 10 years. You are 1. seriously unlucky 2. being targeted. You have experienced more muggings than I know of anyone in London so I do apologise on behalf the city! London is a great city, but it can be dangerous at times. If you're worried it might be worth taking Ubers back to your door just to help you slowly adapt, more expensive but will give you peace of mind while you're still a bit shaken. It does take a little bit of time to feel ok again. Hope you feel better soon and we can show you the friendliness and warmth of the city again!

were they local? because in spain 90% of them are morrocans, algerians, or gypsies from south eastern europe. the most common targets are east asians(korean japanese) or northern europeans.

Of course they weren't locals, the locals mostly left already. London is no longer an English city, it still has some European but are mostly Eastern or southern Europeans.

I loved every second of this vlog. I am so sorry this has happened to you, and it's absolutely not your fault!! For the meanwhile, you could put your valuables in an inner pocket, or keep your bag inside your jacket...anything to try and increase chances of keeping yourself safe. But, if this is a constant issue that impacts your life, maybe you won't want to be in London for long. 😲 I've had my phone stolen in an SF nightclub, literally in the span of 5 seconds. 😔 It was gut-wrenching! I've learned to NOT trust other people. Even if people truly do need help, it's honestly not our priority to help them.

Your post got me so shocked because you just mentioned about pickpockets in your previous video, like, what a timing! This will be a reminder for me to be extra careful when I’m in Europe. And you’re so brave to be super honest with the teenager who tried to steal your phone. If I were you I wouldn’t know what to say or do.. I really don’t like how the London police dealt with your case. What if anyone/tourists need to get their phone out to navigate?? Gosh

i left my bag with my laptop, driver's license, wallet, and a bunch of art supplies, as well as other stuff on the NYC bus line that runs from the more popular areas through the poorer neighborhoods that homes a predominant black population. contrary to the stereotypes of black people, my bag was not stolen but actually submitted to the bus station lost and found where i went and retrieved all my belongings in perfect state and everyone was really nice. that's why it's important not to feed into stereotypes nor fully believe in them, and definitely be careful of your possessions, i've lost many things before but many of them including my phone that i left in the bus as well, were returned to me by the people who've found it. i'm very critical of the stuff i always bring with me out in the open now. also make sure you have a tracker app to easily find your phone at all times.
@davec5153
@davec5153 3 жыл бұрын
Why are you talking about black areas, she never mentioned who stole from her (she has too much sence). I guess we all know who's responsible without having to say it because we are all a bunch of cowards, afraid of being called the R word. Its understandable that you automatically jump to say something positive about black people, the leftist brain conditioning has really taken root in your brain. I hate to think of the attack on her you would have written if she had actually named the thief's ethnicity but she didn't and you still run to defend them.

I worked extra hours to get my iphone and on the first month it was stolen from my room. I drank with 3 guys that night who I worked with and they all claimed to be innocent. They were extra nice too so I was really broken and depressed. I couldn't work properly but I also didn't want to be a burden at work. I know how it feels to have your phone stolen and it hurts. Sorry to hear that happened to you Anna. I’m a boy that’s prepared to do the most to a thief but I never leave or have my out in the open. That being said, respectfully, to the wrong person or off first impressions, you across as a timid and may be perceived as vulnerable. In London or anywhere in the world for that fact, you should do your homework of the surroundings you traverse in and get to know the environment you’re moving through. Also take better precautions with your personal belongings (wear body sachets and wireless earbuds) so they are securely concealed and do not have to be revealed until you are in a safe environment xxx

And it’s totally okay to rant about it! It’s totally normal to be angry , in my first year of uni ( new city for me but not so big like London, not even near so big) my clock was stolen from my arm and I only realised it like half an hour later. Also some guys talking to us. It was orientation week and at this time I was a little bit drunk.... also this same guy’s stole the phone from my friend ....

Sad to hear this experience happening. I do see a trend in the 3 incidents, distraction by the thief, close contact within a arms length, and the last case they were undetected probably from a blind spot from behind. Possible counters to these would be being aware of your surroundings especially around corners and possible hiding spots, these guys work in a group. There is also a concept called being a grey man, where you blend into the urban environment and become more invisible around crowds. Some people who are grey man would be homeless people where most people don’t notice or being very little attraction. I saw something unfold in front of me a few years ago. Some purse snatcher pushed over a 2 year old learning to walk with her mother, the mother bent over to help her child and then the purse got snatched and he ran through a alley where a car was waiting. Worst case scenario is when the thief doesn’t leave but stays to harass and intimidate. This is where you need some finishing power up your sleeve to end the confrontation ASAP. For a man we would get into trouble for using excessive force, but for women this is not judged the same way, so do your worst.

Please be careful. There are always criminals waiting to take the opportunity to steal/assault people esp. if they are alone or distracted looking at a phone, etc. This reminds me of a time many years ago when I visited London and then got lost trying to walk to my hotel. I had my phone stolen three time as well!! Two times at Stratford station and Westfield and once over at Oxford Circus. The time at Oxford Circus it was also a guy in a blue hoodie on a bike!!!!!! The first time my phone was taken out of my pocket when I was going down the stairs with my suitcase. Second was in a shop, a guy was basically stalking me and waiting for me to leave my phone. The third was at night, just about when I was going into my Uber, Oxford Circus. ( I was looking at my phone for the license plate). That’s why I buy insurance now! It’s crazy!! So sending my hugs to you. I know exactly how it feels!

I am sorry to hear this happened to you. My wife, daughter and I have lived just outside London for around 11 years and we are in London fairly often. Also my work office is in London (travel in three times a week before Covid) and we have had no direct issues although there have been the odd moments we have felt unsafe but feel this is common in many cities... don't get me wrong...this comment is not to undermine your bad experience as it is horrible... We have just been lucky I guess. Hopefully you have had more than your fair share of bad experiences already and I hope this does not impact your lovely spirit.

Thanks for sharing the different types of “techniques” people steal 🤣 it’s so sad because shaming is such a stupid thing to do, people need to change their mindset about it. And the fact that it has happened to you for THREE TIMES when you’ve stayed there for 8 YEARS NOW. I’m sorry how these thieves made you react in such a way in normal lives. AND THE THIRD THIEF WHO ASKED U FOR UR PHONE TO SEND A TEXT OMG hahaha thanks goodness you’ve learnt. This time though... 😔 stay cautious and safe babe. I hope this doesn’t happen to you again. 💕 Edited: AND SHAME ON THOSE DISMISSIVE POLICE OFFICERS speaks a lot on why pickpockets cases in London is so high.

Dang! Sorry to hear about your experiences. It's good that you're talking about it so that you don't let it build up inside. I've had my car radio stolen in my car but that didn't bother me as much as the fact that they broke the window with a rock to get in. That cost money and time which pissed me off. Then going to college, my Specialized mountain bike got stolen right in front of the building entrance. It was chained with other bikes on a rack. I thought it was safe. Nope. That one hurt cause it caused a thousand dollars. These thieves don't really give a rat's ass about how hard you had to work to pay for shit. Stay strong. And stay safe. This COVID has brought the worst out of people. Peace.

I'm here in Canada doing research on living in London because I'm thinking about moving there. The first thing that comes up when I search "living in London" is the increase in crime, is London safe, how to stay safe in London, knife gangs. It sucks that those are the first things that come up.
@StormGuy.Productions
@StormGuy.Productions Жыл бұрын
it is very safe, knife gangs only harm other gangs, the biggest threat it pick pocketing, dont walk aroud with you phone out for a long period of time and it wont be stolen, i walk around midnight and i feel very safe, i have also never been a victim of crime, and you probably wont as well, 2020 had the highest number of robberies, about 40k but has dropped to around 20k now so your chances of your phone being stolen have about halfed, the murder rate is still one of the lowest in the world, as well as violence per 100k

That's really shitty. I've lived in London for 30 years, in Kensington and Chelsea, and it's not hard to see what's going on. The moped thieves were exceptionally common two or three years ago. You can see and hear them, they're excessively noisy because they've modified them, and they always have a pillion passenger. Number plates are covered with black bin liners. I managed to help police arrest & prosecute after one incident as I'd set up a 4k camera from my flat onto the road where almost every week there'd been a vehicle break in. I run outside to confront them too, although that's probably not a great idea, IME they're pretty obnoxious and threatening to interact with, but it is mostly just talk and threatening behaviour, if they become violent the police will invest time in the case. I also have a laser pen that I shine on them when they're gazing into potential vehicles so they know they're being watched. They target vehicles on pay and display bays, not those in resident parking spots, presumably because they know locals are less likely to leave stuff in their vehicles, they're likely to be nearby, and they will make an effort to file a case. The bicycle thieves run a similar racket, they can manage a quick getaway and are very difficult to trace. You can easily identify them as the racketeers: like the moped thieves, they'll slowly drive past a row of cars looking inside them to see if there's something they can pinch. They're in and out in seconds. When you mentioned South Kensington, presumably you were on the pedestrianised area at the south end of Exhibition Road where there's several restaurants? I lived on Exhibition Road for 12 years. I have no doubt that because it's a tourist area it's targeted. While this is going to be little comfort to you, I agree that you're more likely to be targeted if they think you're perceived to be an easy catch. I've not had a phone stolen (as a bloke, it's almost always in an inside jacket pocket), but I have had three bicycles pinched, one that I'd had for fifteen years. I now use a folding bike to get around so it's not left outside. They hit the touristy areas because there's less likelihood they'll be traced, after all, what tourist is going to want to spend hours giving a police statement? I'm sorry about the victim blaming, it's not a good look from the police in particular. Typically my few interactions with the police have mostly been good, although I did have one bad interaction about twenty years ago when the copper was being unnecessarily officious over a driving offence he alleged I'd done. Finally, again I am sorry about your experiences. You are absolutely right to assume bad faith, although it's a sad indictment on society as a whole. As I've lived in London for so long it makes me very sad :-( My one recommendation, don't ever go to Rome!

Hi, this kind of situations make people racist, unfortunately. Grewing up in Sweden but now living in Korea, Seoul since 2002 is a huge difference when it comes to crimes. You can't leave anything in Sweden on a table ( phone, lap top, wallet etc.) and in 2 sec it's gone but here nobody takes anything. If you're in certain areas like Hongdae and other places with lot of foreigners you can't leave things behind you. I lost my backpack in The Netherlands once.. I hugged a person so I put it between my legs next second it was gone......no people around us at that time. Some places are safer than others.
