People often complain about the high cost of living in Canada. What they overlook is that there are high levels of taxation built into everything you consume, from food to housing to fuel. When GST was introduced in Canada they were supposed to copy New Zealand's experiment and reduce the existing sales tax. They lied. GST is a pernicious tax that taxes every level of the production/distribution process not just at the point of sale. Now you have carbon tax that just went up this month which is "designed" to curtail use of fossil fuels which scientific studies has shown does not effect global warming. None of the collected money will be used to research renewable energy but rather to be used for general revenue. This again is a broad based tax. If you buy, say a polyester dress, the fabric is produced from petroleum and that gets taxed plus the truck that takes it to Sobey's or Walmart plus the cost to heat or cool the store is added in. People complain about the direct income taxes they pay but forget about the convoluted sales tax system. It can really bite you in the pocketbook. However this is the price of good government that locks you down for a virus that has replaced the common flu that no longer exists, so they can impose the true agenda of destroying the economy. Canadians don't see this or pay attention. The same government that led them into a debt crisis will soon be re-elected, and will enjoy a landslide, at which point taxes will rise again.. The carnival will continue as people continue to reward government incompetence. Of course this is not the only reason because with rampant money printing not tied to economic production a side effect is inflation. Nobody believes the gov't numbers which suggest inflation is non-existent. The money spigot is wide open so there is a real risk of Weimar Republic inflation just around the corner. From someone born in Moncton but glad to have moved on. People are great tho.

Very good points and you are sensible about other people not having a roof over their heads. Our country can do more for food and resource, but the crown sits on 95% on our land while we just rent and "own some home" we actually do not own.

All the problems you've mentioned are what the whole of Canada is facing right now. I'm in Ontario but I can't afford my life here as a single mom so I'll move to moncton for affordability. I can also afford to buy my dream home in moncton, I think you said riverview is one of the best neighborhoods. I have been looking for properties in moncton north end and riverview. In the next 2 months for sure I'll have had enough for my down payment. I work nights here in Ontario, I don't even get to see my 2 year old just so I can buy a house and move to a city we can afford. Everything you've mentioned, it's even worse here in Ontario but people are adamant to move, houses are a million dollars, groceries are so expensive, getting a family doctor is a struggle here too. I'm originally from the congo 🇨🇩, if you know any Congolese people over there, let them know a sister is coming lol struggle is real.

Make sure you have an adequate income to afford the high property taxes here. You will not find a family doctor here and walk-in-clinics are few and far between, but not as bad as Fredericton plus the healthcare system is broken compared to where you are. They don't even have labs all over the neighbourhoods like LifeLabs.

All good points, it is very good for people who are considering moving anywhere to realize that they aren't getting "away" from issues, anywhere you go you'll find issues. But a good thing for everyone to remember is that the sky high pricing and cost of living is going up everywhere.. not just NB. it isn't just rich people moving to NB and buying your dream property. Most of those who are moving and buying up your dream place in your province are people just like you who are experiencing the exact same thing in their own province.. As long as people start realizing that most of those who are moving and buying in cheaper areas to live aren't all "The Rich" ruining other peoples dreams. People who aren't in a good or secure place are being forced to change and many are seeking at least some security in these strange times. Myself included. If I lose my job for whatever reason.. I cannot afford Southern Ontario anymore. I've grown up here and pre covid I could afford my mortgage and was doing pretty decent, but since covid.. things are very difficult with next to no security. But if I sell my ghastly-inflated-overpriced-property and move out of Ontario there is hope for me to do something.. anything. I'm nowhere near rich, or wealthy, or even "ahead of the game", but my with my measly savings I cannot buy 1 square foot of raw locked land in Southern Ontario, but the same amount will buy a nice forested property in NB with a house, no mortgage, no debt.. and a pile of money in the bank to help me find a footing in a new place. *shrug*

I feel the same in my country as I am doing a work no degree people can easily get but... My goal now, here or elsewhere, is having a well paid job as making a "career" is not that obvious because of the realities we are facing. So I don't care anymore about the "kind" of job: first to me, is the pay, secondly, how I would enjoy it.

Thank for your sharing. I am living in Moncton right now, totally agree with you about struggle in accommodation... Last month, when I was 1st trimester of pregnancy and the current of contract will end in last of May, it's really difficulf for us to find suitable rental property, almost not allowed children.... But now, I had miscarriage, easier for us to find accomondation, but basic salary and increasing cost of groceries that still makes trouble. Yahh... Owning house at this time is intelligent choice, much more cheaper priece than big cities. Besides, my husband is an international student and we dont have family doctor, so he could not do any medical check though going to all walking clinic here, they said because of covid.... Everything has pros and cons. Anyways, Moncton brings more safe life for resident throughout pandemic.

For racism, personally I haven't experienced it. My husband had at the mall one time from a customer, however the attendant took ownership and apologized. I migrate from Mississauga ON for 10yrs and their is crazy house market. We just move here recently and buy a house for family living. We got a house here around 4000 but thr is property almost 1M in Ontario Moncton is the best quality of life for family living than ON,Vancouver &Calgary. Reg groceries while Canada/whole world are getting expensive now a days. Simple example from Ontario all supplier there and here are the same like Walmart, sobeys, Costco They are the same prices.

It is my feelings that fear is the real threat and that emotion must be reduced. Most of the homeless want to live without rules or controls. If we are to ever house them a full rethink of housing rules would need to occur. Your recording is echoy which makes it hard to listen to, your English is clear. Just not that, NB has the worst tenants' right in the country. Also no lack of landlords of newer complexes profiling folk from elsewhere thinking they are all loaded so they milk them. I know some tenants that are paying 5 to 10 percent more than NBers in the same complex that became tenants around the same time. As for houses, realtors are profiling too. It's just not folk from outside driving the prices up of homes, it locals that are panicking and are trying to downsize or upgrade. If someone offered you 100 percent more than what you paid for your house two years ago would you sell?
@MultilingualKdog

@rps1689
@rps1689 2 жыл бұрын
@@MultilingualKdog Milking means exploiting. It does sound tempting, but since NB is one of the cheapest places to buy a house, the money would limit your options if you wanted to move elsewhere especially a nice place and are trying to outright buy a house with that money; you most likely will have to downsize or buy something equivalent to it. Now if you are using that money for a downpayment, that will set you up in much nicer home if you don't mind having a small mortgage.

I am new to Moncton... one thing that i noticed is regarding cannabis. Most rentals(99.9%) have a NO smoking , cigarettes / cannabis / cigars....BUT it is also illegal to smoke cannabis in public. So if you smoke cannabis this you should know.
@rps1689
@rps1689 3 жыл бұрын
NB has always been a backward place and it will continue. In BC you can smoke cannabis anywhere in public where tobacco smoking is permitted. In NB you can still get away with smoking at bus stops. Many rentals ban smoking, but not all enforce it especially in high-end rentals; more likely to get evicted for complaining of smoking neighbours than the smokers that smoke in their units covertly. Another thing is there is not security to tenure in NB for renters; easiest province to evict a tenant and they don't even have to give you an excuse for not renewing your lease.

There are lots of changes with immigration rules and I believe something may come up that will favour her. Recently some people who studied here in canada were given permanent residence request. She may want to search that as well. All the best

Hi Vanie, NB is family oriented for sure. And truthfully landlords love kids here. Sadly demand is way higher than supply, looking at the massive influx of immigrants and people from other provinces in the last couple of years. That being said, you will definitely get what you want, at least I did, as well as other people, it will just require a little patience and perseverance. Hope this helps 😊

Hi B, you may not get family doctor right away, it took me about 2 years to have one. However I had a surgery without a family doctor, my husband sees a specialist without a family doctor, this means that you will still get the medical help you need without a family doctor. I hope this helps
@rps1689

It won't take you years to see a hematologist and scans, but it could be months or less depending on the urgency. NB's healthcare system is average to just below average by Canadian standards. If you need access to primary healthcare often, there are better places elsewhere in the country, but if you have to stay and live in NB, Moncton or Saint John would be the best place to live for access to walk-in-clinics as an alternative to a family doctor.

Welcome to moncton. The first step is to get an accommodation and a telephone line. Your husband may need to contact his school if there is anything he'll need to do before he starts his classes. Depends on so many factors, biggest being your work and the flexibility you have around your work. Outside of Moncton may be cheaper, calmer and probably bigger space, but you'll have to consider other factors. Personally I'll consider school proximity for my younger kids. If my kids were to be in the university, I'll want to escape to a cottage, lol 😆

Moncton has a few communities from 30 minutes out such as Shediac, Cap-Pele, Sackville, Notre-Dame, Cocagne, Salisbury, Hillsborough; these areas you'll find more rural but with properties with more acres, more space from neighbouring homes and typically more sq footage for cheaper. However due to the recent boom these areas are also gradually increasing in price more proportional to moncton.

I would not move to NB at all if your concern is having a family doctor for your child. You will probably never get a family doctor here in NB, we have folk that are still waiting for one for over ten years and they are willing to travel. For minor non urgent health issues, you can go to a walk-clinic, but they are few and far between and not up to par like we see in some other provinces.

New Brunswick people can’t afford to live here because out of province buyers are over paying for housing. 110 thousand over asking and they never looked at the house. It was sold to online.
@rps1689
@rps1689 2 жыл бұрын
The out of province buyers are creating the same problem they were leaving from. There wasn't really any need to offer so much, as they panic and think they are getting a good deal. Also it doesn;t help when the pretty much unregulated agents use the tactic of pricing well below comparables. It lures buyers that don't realise the home is out of their budget and tries to get them to max out. I've seen this and they try to discourage you to put in an offer close to listing price only to find out later the house got listing price or less. Out of province buyers beware.

All your struggles are the same across the country. Inflation, housing, family doctors. As for the opportunity/over education, pick a bigger city for more opportunity. You don’t move to a city with less than 100k population and expect top tier employment opportunities. Homelessness also everywhere. I lived in Winnipeg , Victoria Bc and have travelled many times to Calgary, Edmonton. These issues are everywhere. You didn’t talk about your tax rates in the maritimes. That’s one of the biggest factors that make people avoid moving there. Also it’s a sellers market not a buyers.

Moncton can be an expensive place and a struggle for newcomers even other Canadians. I met a man in Moncton that regrets moving from the Okanagan Valley in pursuit of a cheaper cost of living only to find out it is more expensive for him to live in Moncton than it was in the Okanagan, and he has a house paid for in Moncton. He has a good pension income and he still gets dinged more than he did when he split it with his wife in BC at tax time. Also hey pays over double the property tax he paid and much more in utilities and fees unheard of in BC. He should have done more research and should not have fallen for the romanticisation of the Maritimes and its low cost houses.
