I lived on Moorea for almost a year. Our house was in Afareaitu. I lived there in 1962 and one of the best things you can do to endear yourself to the people there is to speak Tahitian. I am fluent in Tahitian but that's not necessary. If you can just say "Ia Ora Na"=Tahitian greeting. Eaha to 'oe huru? How are you? "Your land is beautiful"! E mea nehenehe roa ta outou fenua! I have spent a total three years on about twenty different islands. That would be thirty if you count the time I spent on the Samoan islands. For them you would say Talofa, pofaa pei mai koe? The Polynesian people are among the friendliest people in the world.

Awesome Tina! We were out there in the months of October and November. The weather was pretty consistent with afternoon showers, and only some days it would rain all day. It was a pretty good time to be out there especially considering you get the chance to see the humpback whales! We hope you get the chance to get out there! Safe travels!

@@tinawimberley5035 We used local currency 💵 often while on the island but mostly because we wanted to be very aware of our spending. Most places take credit cards, but the card readers can have some malfunctions and leave you in an awkward place if you don't have the cash on hand at the same time. Like the grocery stores and what not. Hope that helps!

Most of the foods will be labeled in French. There will be a good opportunity for coconut milk and there are soy/almond options but they're not always as prevalent as coconut. Fish is pretty easy to avoid. They have all sorts of meats at their main market. Mostly frozen meats but hopefully that's what you're looking for! Thanks NyB

You'll need the exchanged currency. There are ATMs on Moorea but if you want money before you get there, you'll need to find one on Tahiti! Safe travels!

Very worth it! Mostly because, the French Polynesia still has some of the best snorkeling of many other places. The beach most well known and visited may be a resort beach before you get there, however I'm sure you'll find great places to swim while you're there! Good luck finding a travel partner! We had found places with laundry appliances and wore the same clothes often. Obviously, mostly shorts and T-shirts but we had one nicer pair of clothes and a couple long sleeves. The usual temperatures are hot, but don't underestimate the weather, it can give you the chills as well. When are you guys headed there?

First off, thank you Daniel! Second... The mosquitos were definitely out, but the locals here all use mosquito coils. If you're not familiar mosquito coils are those little spiral incense style coils that smolder for hours to repel mosquitoes. They are pretty helpful and don't create a weird or bad smell. I would suggest bringing mosquito spray or finding it while you are there. I'm not so sure you can fully avoid getting bit, but it shouldn't be too bad. I like this question phoenixnmhesq! If idolize the epitome of beach vacation and that is a major goal for your experience, then the over water bungalows will give you all of the feels. Think to yourself "if I go there and get to the beach and see these things off shore, will I be content or always wish I was in there". The experience for us was really something special. The hole in the floor to see the rays and fish swimming below... I could go on and on. But, if you have a good amount of allotted time to spend and could give Moorea more than a few days, renting a place for yourself is a lot of fun as well. The simple answer is yes, but don't feel like that is the only way to enjoy yourself on such a beautiful island! Thanks for asking!

Ok, I just read several horror stories from people on tripadvisor, & basically pleading with people to NOT drive scooters around in Moorea. How did you guys manage & did you see/ hear of any accidents from people riding scooters? We were planning on renting one the whole time we are there & so we will be transporting our groceries back & forth also (in cloth bags over my shoulder). I would really like your take on the whole situation, as now I am scared! Thanks!

Ok! We completely understand! So... Renting a scooter is a fun idea! If you have driven a scooter before then you should be in good hands. The speed limit is between 30 and 50 mph around the whole island and there are only a couple of "really busy" turn offs. The grocery stores specifically can be a little busy during normal business hours. I remember it was a little tough trying to get a weeks worth of groceries on to my scooter. Carrying bags can throw off your balance and make riding your scooter difficult. Depends on what you will be shopping for. As far as the rest of the island, it was very calm roads with no traffic. We didn't see or hear of any tragedies on bikes while we were there, but we have experience from driving on the crazy streets of Bali in Canggu and on the island of Nusa Penida. Both of those were insane experiences and driving a scooter on Mo'orea is nothing like that. In short I would say drive near the sides of the road so that drivers can pass you and just drive as slow as you need. Take every caution not to jump in front of other traffic including other scooters and absolutely be careful when buying groceries and carrying them along. We hope this helps you make up your mind. ** Maybe rent for a week at first to decide whether or not driving a scooter the whole time will be the best fit! 🤙 Thanks for asking Tina!

It really depends on what kind of restaurants you will be stopping at but, if you were to stop and snag some fresh fruit from the side of the road or at a market and eat that for breakfast it could save you some cash. Otherwise there are a few great cafe's that aren't too expensive... And as far as lunch and dinner goes (combined) I would plan on a minimum of $30-40 a person. So in total probably $50 a day on the safe side, and if you save a little more on a few days or something you could even snag some food at one of the resort restaurants. Those places are quite a bit more expensive. I would definitely suggest the duty free for any liquor and other treats. You'll find the goods there and it will definitely be marginally cheaper if you're looking for the best deals. Glad to lend a hand! We hope you have a blast Nicole! P.S. That's a great question. If you feel comfortable riding a scooter 🛵 than I suggest you go with the more fun and adventurous way around, by renting one. I also want to suggest checking the weather during the beginning of October (like common expectations of the weather during that month) to identify if it might be rainy the entire time you are there or not. @@meandmerat8744 depends! You can take the fast ferry, which takes 25 minutes. The slow ferry takes 45 minutes. Whichever one you take, be sure to bring some Dramamine with you, even if you aren't prone to seasickness.

We always had good service through Google Fi. It was $0.20 a minute though. We always just used WiFi and went through FaceTime or something like that. The WiFi there isn't very good. Pretty much everywhere had poor WiFi so, you could go that route but it may be blurry video and slow connection, but it works! Thanks for asking Yu!
