I had a thought. If you had a medical emergency while you were in a store it would be a good idea to have a bracelet or necklace that said that you have a dog in the car. I'm a type 1 diabetic and a medical emergency is quite possible and if I had my pet in the car I would want whoever found me to be alerted of that as soon as possible.

That’s is a good idea because I have seizures and syncope. It’s rare but it happens. Ima looks into it. I leave my babies in the car when I run in the store, if it’s hot, with the battery powered fans and the window cracked. If it’s cold, with all the blankets and their sweaters on.

Brooke, obviously Pippa is your priority as any pet should be! I have three senior rescued dachshunds that are my life. 8 years ago I had a massive stroke and I'm now unable to work and I'm fully disabled. I am able to live independently and take care of myself for the most part. I no longer drive and I don't go out very often but grocery delivery has been a godsend! I'm not with my dogs 24/7 but pretty close to that. I may go out on a busy week once for 3 or 4 hours if I have to go to a doctor's appointment or an occasional social engagement. As you started your video I wondered if you did grocery pickup and you actually answered that question. It's such a smart thing and is you said, every place really has it! And the bonus is you stick to your list when you do the grocery pickup or delivery because you don't wander up and down the aisles at Target and end up spending a bunch of extra money on impulse buys. When I first got home after rehab from my stroke, I didn't have access to grocery delivery as it wasn't a thing in my city yet so my next door neighbor and dear friend would grocery shop for me once a week and I could order any pet food I needed from Petco or chewy.com so the dogs were taken care of. Now that numerous retailers have grocery delivery in my area, I make good use of it and have for about the last 5 years. It really makes things so much easier. My pharmacy even delivers which is great. I live in the Midwest and right now it's about 25° today and I have my fireplace going and the three dachshunds are on my lap; one of them is underneath the blanket with me and the other two are just laying here sleeping. They are like my little built-in heaters! I hope you and Pippa have many, many more years of wonderful travels together. I have had beagles in the past and they are wonderful dogs. I volunteer for a beagle and basset rescue here in the Midwest and have fostered many hounds over the years. Unfortunately I can't get out and help at events like I used to or drive on weekend transports but it is still great to be able to help out in the ways that I can. Thanks for the in informative video! Hello to Pippa from Gigi, Henry and Yoda!

I am a long distance semi driver and I have my German Shepherd with me. It never occurred to me to wonder what you do with Pippa because you're clearly a responsible adult, able to provide her great care. I have sometimes gotten an uber to Walmart or other places while my dog is in the truck. if the weather is less desirable, I leave the truck running for comfort. I swear my dog appreciates the mini breaks from me, now and then, as he is typically sound asleep when I return. He does get super excited when we get a day or two back home however :-) Safe and happy travels 😊

Heeyyyyy Brooke! I am so happy to hear all of the things you do to take extra care for Pippa!! Also I wanted to mention to people who are thinking about traveling with their pup. I walk dogs and care for people's homes on an app called Rover. So, if you had an event or something you needed to do during the day and needed sitting for your pet, you could contact people in that zip code on the app and find their reviews and such. Some people take in the animals for the day or overnight in their homes! So, check that out, it's a great option!! Xo

Omgosh! I have three as well. Wherever I go they go. I don’t put them on planes, because I don’t want them to suffer. But, I’m seriously thinking of traveling with them for about four years. I keep wondering how will we do it. If I leave the dogs for 2 mins., my boy will bark. I can’t afford to lose them. I’d die without them. If you’re traveling with yours, I’d appreciate any advice.

I travel with a Golden Retriever and she is my first priority. She's a fairly young dog with no health issues, but that could change quickly. I think the biggest risk for dogs when camping in the desert is coyotes and rattlesnake. When camping in areas that are heavily wooded, you have to be mindful of wood ticks.

It’s so lovely to hear that there’s no way you would have left Pippa when it’s mostly you hear are people dropping off in the shelter or dumping their dogs/pets cos of whatever reason (but sometimes cos they are old) and it breaks my heart. We just bought a camper trailer and here in Australia, dogs are not allowed to the National Parks but there’s no way we would not take our 12 yo husky with us. Either we skip the National Parks for now or maybe we find a sitter where we are at if we would like to hike/visit these places for a day.

This is why I bought this 2012 Prius V for the climate control. Even if it's in the 90's I can leave the car running with climate control and they are very comfortable in 76 - 77 degree temperature inside. You can leave this running and lock it with the aux. key and it can't be opened with a key fob. You can also buy a temperature gauge that you can check the car temp and be alerted if there is a change. Also whether winter or summer you can always be comfortable. I am really happy I bought this car for camping I use it more than the Roadtrek Van.

I worry so much about leaving my pug in the car alone for fear of someone smashing a window and stealing her. Would, of course, never dream of leaving her in hot weather. Thinking maybe window reflectix so people can't look in and see her. The thought of that happening just makes me feel ill. I don't know what I'd do. Thank you for this video, you helped calm a lot of my fears. Somehow, it didn't occur to me to do showering and shopping really early in the morning.

My girl is stopping me right now from just selling my home and going on the road as she’s a big gal and would not be comfortable in my car. A tent would be an option- however she is a retired police dog and is sooo aggressive and I would be afraid for other doggos even though I muzzle her when I have to take her potty. My neighbors just sold their home and dumped their beautiful dogs at the pound 😭😭 I’m just thinking about how scared and lonely they must be. 🖤

Hey Brooke just wanted to say I'm really proud of you for how fast you bounced back and are back on the road again. I think that at my age 72 I realize that it's always best to keep things as simple as possible we used to say k i s s keep it simple stupid. Not that you're stupid. Not at all. But that is good life motto to just keep this things as simple as possible and still have a good experience so. I myself would never use one of those type of camper things because I know how much trouble something that big it's so easy to break down would be. I would see trouble trouble all over the all over the place but I am 72 and it is different for me. But I really applaud you for getting back on your on the horse. Your new car your 2011 looks fantastic. I am also dictating this to this reply so you will have a lot of grammar mistakes!! Again I just want to tell you how brave, resourceful, and admirable you are at living your at living your dream. You should be so proud of yourself!

Just realized something that might be helpful for the nomad community; training for us & our dogs similar to the training service dogs get but just focusing on the behaving in public part. Not saying anyone should pretend they have a service animal when they don't, but that would enable us to safely take our dogs into places when necessary without causing problems. Ime most places care more that your dog's not gonna destroy their stuff than anything else. Idk, might be a terrible idea but just popped in my head so thought I'd share 😊

From 11/21-8/22, I lived in my Jeep for 9 months traveling from FL to CA. My family and friends found out and pressured me into getting an apt. Well, I don't want to keep paying $15K/year for rent. So I'm wanting to find a Box Truck or Cargo Van with no windows to travel 100% Stealth. But I have a cat, but I'm not sure how to create a CATIO to keep her cool in the summers, while I'm away for 1 or 2 hours. If I get a Box Truck, I will be able to hide an A/C unit above the cab with a Wind Deflector like the 18 wheelers have, then I can create a craw space there. But if I get a Cargo Van, I was thinking of creating a small opening in the floor that leads down into a cage, so that she is Covered, Hidden, Protected, and has a 4way Cross Breeze.

It cracks me up that anyone would think that you would leave Pippa in the car when it’s really hot out. No one would assume you’d do that if Pippa were a human. It’s like they want to “what if” a million different scenarios that have 0.000001% chance of happening. Like, “would you leave her in the car if it’s 120 degrees in Phoenix and there’s a sharknado heading towards you, and you had to go in a store to get bear spray and it will take you 4 hours because you have to walk backwards through the entire store. Then would you?” Ummm, still no. 😂

My dog doesn’t care if I take 30 mins to an hour while we’re on errands. When I get on the road I’ll do it just as you , in the morning when the heat is not an issue and since I hate the heat I won’t be around those states in the summer. I’ll be going up in elevation. Sometimes I feel common sense it’s really “common” anymore 😊. Rocket science it ain’t !

I mean plenty of people go back every year and spend the whole winter down there, it’s just not my scene personally. Go to Joshua Tree if you want to go lol
