Simple Car Camping

Camped overnight at a beautiful free campground!
To make camping life easier on the road I've set up my car to have a half bunk in the back with a small table (shoe organizing rack) to use as a desk and table to put my laptop on. I have a 100 amp hour lithium iron phosphate battery to provide me with enough power to run a coffee maker and lighting. My bed is leveled out with some pine boards and shims so I can sleep level. The whole camping setup can be removed in minutes to return the car to normal.

We are the camp host you could have knocked on our door and we would have been able to give you lots of info of the area. We have been the winter hosts since opening and have lived in the Campbell River area for many years. We winter here then travel the interior all summer sometimes into Alberta. Steve, dealing with loss is the most challenging thing a person can go through, especially during the holidays. I lost my mother when I was a boy, the day before Thanksgiving. Twenty years later I still get teary eyed just thinking about her. I can’t say it gets easier with time but you do eventually learn to accept it for what it is. I felt every word. My dad passed away in 2019 and every holiday and every dinner I cook just bring back memories. I know the less I talk about it and just continue living it gets a lil easier over time but man the pain is still there. I almost teared up watching Steve eat that meatloaf and green beans. I lost my mom in 2022. I still get teary eyed. I miss her very much. Mother’s Day 2022 was the last holiday I had her. We didn’t get to celebrate it as we usually do because she was in the hospital. I lost her shortly after. Needless to say Mother’s Day is a bit tough for me.

We have a mesa and I haven't camped up there yet, mostly because there is a bear up there. But I suppose Steve camps around a lot of bears too. We put a camera up on the mesa and captured a picture of the bear. I didn't even know we had bears.

Folks, when you lose the love of your life, certain times of the year are really tough to get through. Losing yoru mom after that. Brutal as well. He's had to get through the holidays, and then Valentines day.... Cut the man some slack. He's going to have a LOT of really bad days, weeks, months. He's going to have some good days weeks, etc... Anniversaries, holidays, birthdays, it's rough as it gets. No one here gets to judge him, or expect him to be any way other than who and what he is. Cut the tantrums. Now, I'm going to go my merry way before I start cussing at some of you. Steve, whatever it is, you do what you gotta do to keep moving forward. You've been a blessing to many. What an influence you are to many of us. I'm 58 years old and have a decent career as a contract engineer. I admire the freedom you have! I too have spent many nights without a hotel. Hi ya Steve. I ran the winter roads (ice roads) for 8 years and myself and most of the drivers I worked with used those lunch pail stoves. A few years back, and ours were shaped just like a lunch pail, hence the name we gave them. Mine went to 290 degrees. I'd pick up 3 lb. pork or beef roasts to cook in it. At that temp it took about 2 hours to cook them. Also put a bit of potatoes, carrots and onions in with the meat. As much as we could squeeze in. Get 2 or 3 drivers with them and all cooking something different, we ate better than most restaurant's out in the middle of nowhere. Once you get the hang of it Steve, you'll really enjoy it. The pamphlet you got with it should tell you the temp it goes to. Enjoy your meat loaf and be safe.

I've been semi-homeless at a few points in my life, and have spent many months living in the back of a Dodge Grand Caravan with a very similar setup. In my case, I used a futon mattress to sleep on. When I needed the stow 'n' go seats up, I could fold the mattress, and store it, and the rest of my belongings in the trunk area. It was inconspicuous enough that I would literally just park in public parking lots to sleep. Never had anyone bother me.

Ok I'm here because it occurred to me that I haven't seen a video from Steve in awhile, and I see I'm not the only one. But some of these comments, holy sh*t, guys. Steve is one person, working all by himself. If you follow multiple creators on YT and elsewhere, as I'm sure you all do, you have to have noticed that an individual person can't put out content on a regular schedule, 24/7/365 no matter what's going on behind the scenes. Only an organization with multiple people can do that. Content creators need a break from time to time, especially when they've had major upsets in their life like Steve has. Or if a person has a really big channel, they may pay someone to handle their social media, including comments. I was homeless for a few years in my late teens and I sort of miss it. I miss the adventure really. I wasn't addict homeless I was traveling and working at temp agency's to see more of canada. Homeless. I stayed in my old tent most of the week , every Friday id get a night a A hotel to clean myself up and sleep cozy for a night . Then it was on the bus / train onto the next city. I want to do it again sooooo badly but I'm a dad to young children and just can't find the time to anymore However, my eldest son came along when I found a spot on a bike trail last year . We stayed 2 nights . When it was time to pack up and come home , neither of us wanted too 😂

It will be 12 years this May since I lost my husband of 18 years and my daughter and I still miss him terribly! John's brithday was on December 12th, so Christmas is always tough. My daughter usually makes her dad's favorite cake for his birthday, but this year she had her hands full chasing around her 8 month old miracle baby (her husband survived cancer and a kidney transplant before she finally got pregnant). I want to tell you that it gets "easier" somehow but , honestly, you just keep moving, You're doing fantastic! Thank you for sharing your adventures!

I found Steve's channel my first week of college. I was all alone in my dorm, out on my own for the first time, and stumbled across this channel. It was something that gave me comfort in such a new and vastly different environment that I was adjusting to. Here I am in my final semester of college and have not missed an upload yet. I used cap in a tent in the cold before too, I don’t anymore. I have a 5th wheel with a heater now. Used to scuba dive in Washington and Canada. Now it’s all warm water. We get older and things change.

Master Plumber here, Run my own company. Have had a 12v Oven for a few years and love it, got mine on Amazon for around $50 USD. It has a light on the plug to show it's on only issue I have with it is it shut's off after 30min and needed to be unplugged and plugged back in... Has saved me a fortune in eating fast food!!!! It's probably not the most financially practical idea but hear me out. Why not take that beautiful Alberta property of yours and turn it into the Steve Wallis Camping Experience campground! You could turn the house into a lodge. Your fans and subscribers would come from miles around! I'm retired. I'll manage the place and be a caretaker for you. 😊

I confess that I'm quite worried about Steve. We've experienced two weeks of fantastic weather in Western Canada and Steve can only muster a car camping video (2 weeks ago) and nothing since. Steve, I think, and excuse me for saying so, but as someone who has suffered from mental health issues, more frequent videos would be good for your mental health. They are a big part of you and who you have become on this journey. Please get well. You could do more collabs or do overnight trips with subscribers, or break out the schoolie, or just more car camping. And please, find time for a crazy neighbor vid!
