The bear hang dilemma is partly why I still just carry a bear vault lol no hanging necessary (especially in areas where 'the right tree' just can not be found)
@MeganClaarke16 күн бұрын
This experince definitely opened my eyes to the value of bear canisters!
@JasonSnailer11 күн бұрын
Your bear hang wasn’t bad u just need a higher branch and the bag will sit higher. Also trying to throw the rock can be difficult. Try swinging the rock bag by holding the line and whip it up on a branch. Use centripetal force.

Love your adventure! I have a Jetboil “knockoff” that cooks foods just fine, as well as boiling water. You might want to check out other makers so you can use one for all of your cooking needs. Kudos to you for overcoming any fear of solo backpacking! Oh, welcome to Oregon! Glad you enjoyed your trip!
@MeganClaarke16 күн бұрын
Super curious about what you have! I got that JetBoil in 2018 so I think an upgrade is justified 😄
@colleendaniels640916 күн бұрын
It's a Campchef Stryker. It's a little bit bigger around than the Jetboil, so it's more like a "pot". When cooking rice packets, like your Uncle Ben's, I add just a bit more water than what it calls for. I've heated canned foods too like raviolis and stew and it comes out perfectly. You don't have to keep the flame on high so it's easier to get the temperature just right. I got it a couple years ago and it's still working just fine! Hope this helps!

Sorry, forgot to mention that it's the 200 model. I can use propane or isobutane as well.

I'm at such a crossroads in my life. Do I continue to pursue a career as an electrician or say f%#% it and do exactly what you're doing. The eventual money and job security is unmatched in todays economy, but I keep going back to the thought that time is the most precious and valuable thing. I have a little over 4 more years to become a journeyman, which I'll be 31 by then. Yeah I could live the life you are living after I get my journeyman, but man is there just a hurricane inside me to just go and do this. Sorry to give a random rant but just need to vent this out as there aren't many people in my life like you, living my dream reality.
@mr.frightscare35616 күн бұрын
I’m having similar thoughts as you. Mine is about abandoning my life here in Alabama and moving to Alaska. I have felt a strong calling for Alaska for the past two years and I know if I don’t at least try it I’ll have to live wondering . . . what if? So I bought a Honda Element, turned it into a micro camper and will be doordashing my way up there as soon as I wrap things up here in Alabama. Don’t ignore those feelings. You only get one life.

There is a little more to the story. I'm an Air Force vet. Get 70% disabilty every month plus free Healthcare from the VA. This is another huge factor that keeps pushing me into this lifestyle. Plus I'm fine with making less money since the life I want to live isn't really extravagant or expensive. I have 2 logics fighting where I can afford this lifestyle now, though it won't be a crazy amount of money or finish the apprenticeship and have serious job security. My main thing I keep coming back to if who knows the state of health, the world and a million other factors in 4 years. Time is so fuckimg precious and I don't want to waste any more seconds not doing exactly what I want to on this planet.

I'm 44, lived in the Los Angeles area all of my life but have always enjoys open spaces and being adventurous, Finally with my remote work I've been focusing on over the past 4-years I'm able to get myself land in the California Desert 🏜 40-minutes off Hwy15 outside of Victorville, California, Will be singing the documents this week, end goal is to call it home on the cheap within 10-months, Keep on your journey, and when I have my piece fenced and secure you will be one of my Top 5 KZbinrs I will make a section for where you can at least park overnight if you're ever in the middle of that zone of the California Desert.

@@MeganClaarke I trade stocks off my iPhone/ Laptop, I'm a Swing trader which means I enter a positions say on Tesla when indicators tell me it's a GOOD price, then flip it a few days up to 3-weeks later for a 7%- 10% profit ...... Day trading is too fast when you're traveling.... Back in 2020 when I started dabbling in stocks I KNEW that it would be the BEST way to earn side income if I ever wanted to be adventurous, I become good at it to where I now do it full-time and that's around 90-minutes per day 5 days a week.... Sometimes less as I trade the same stocks over and over again and they become more and more predictable .... Perfect work for travelers 🚐
