We are full-timers, too. If you tell the dealership your van is your home, they SHOULD accommodate you. This would allow you to at least spend nights in your van while hanging around in their waiting room during business hours. I just started watching this video, but please remember this always as you travel. ALSO, impress upon them that your refrigerator MUST remain on at all times so you don't lose your food. God speed!!

I was wondering about this. I wondered why someone couldn't ask service department where they want it parked, and stay there until the time its scheduled for diagnostics. I'd "get lost" for awhile and ask they call me with results. If they would have to order parts, that could take days/weeks so I may as well be living in my van in a distant corner of their lot. 🙂

I love a woman who is so real and a survivor, having been in the military you know what's important. May these videos be an inspiration to younger women that you just have to look for way to deal with every situation. It's what's gotten me through 81 years of life. Not sure where you are exactly, but hope you find an Aldi's to stock up your van. It's the store I miss the most after moving away from the MidWest.

The vehicle is a lemon. Mine was in the shop 4 times, and now they are taking it back. It would be in the shop again, because the same issues are happening again, but I'm not taking it back for any more repairs. I'm just giving it back to them.

Watching her living in the car, I would definitely have major problems with the lack of traditional bathroom access at night. However, I am sure she has all of this figured out. For me a bathroom would be the least of my concerns. I would be most concerned about 1) a safe place to put my vehicle at night to get proper rest and 2) people, mostly men following me & harassing me. I would have to have a firearm. I think many of these women do and wisely don’t talk about it. Never tell ANYONE if you do have a firearm, btw.

Just always have a common sense. Don’t live on credit cards, pay in cash as we always have, no mortgage, pay cars in cash if you can, always safe money . We live like this last 30 years. Good luck.

I watched another couples van life and they mentioned a good resource it is called the above ground railroad it’s a resource that helps people of color travel safe when going to different cities and towns. They list safe parks where you can camp out at safely they through events I thought it was really cool to know figured I would pass it along.

Sis Nomi, you are a brave/tough soul! I lived in my car briefly after getting out of the military back in the day and it's something I hope to never have to do again. I don't understand why people choose this (van or car) life, but I have the utmost respect and admiration for those that do. I enjoy watching your journey and tune in EVERY TIME you share. My Aunt had a van and a car when she was living off grid. She has her own wing in my hood mansion (two row houses with some walkways between them lol) because she enjoys being close to us, but is really a loner. She’s a veteran as well.

Nomi, in the event that the weather gets really bad during the duration of your living in car til the van is ready that you need any assistance or help with staying at a hotel let someone know. I am sure some folks would want to help out being that you get donations thru superchat during the live feeds. Stay safe and be careful about possible frostbite. Use those hand warmers inside your socks to keep your feet warm. Take care and check in so we know you’re safe.

@@CaliDiva82 I agree. She is too sensible to have set out on this lifestyle if she were not well enough funded for such emergencies. She even had a "self-care" day a few months ago, wherein she checked into a hotel for a night to enjoy a nice soak in a bathtub and a luxury overnight stay, including a great hotel breakfast the next morning, which she raved about (and where we learned to add either yogurt or sour cream to our scrambled eggs!). I think she just didn't feel the need right now and only wants to spend her money that way when she is really in the mood or the weather conditions become too dangerous to stay in her vehicle. In fact, her KZbin channel grew so fast she was able to quit her job earlier than she at first anticipated, plus she mentioned having savings and also a pension plan. She has cautioned others not to set out on van life relying only on KZbin income. Also, she sold her house awhile back and only spent part of the money on her van. So I think she probably has a good cushion. She is very methodical and practical.

A suggestion....you may want to back your car into the storage unit. If your battery goes dead from sitting and the cold, it's much easier to put on a charger or jump start from your van or another vehicle. Blessings and safe travels dear one. ❤️

I don't think there's anything wrong with being frugal, especially when you're experiencing other stressors. Rational or not, sometimes it seems inappropriate to spend extra money when a lot is going on. I totally get it. And fast food is so expensive these days. I think I would have reserved reasonable hotel stay for a few days, it's winter (too cold for potty runs in the middle of the night plus too dangerous) but at least you had your car as an alternative. On the other hand, since this check up is covered under warranty, I would have made a relaxing vaca out of this and got a nice warm suite.

You are always positive. I have two pcs. of advice 1. Always back your car in. If you have to jump start you'll have access. And 2. Always check The $ store or Walmart before an Auto store and save money. Good luck with the van and stay safe. You are loved.❤

I think chicken comes in pouches like tuna now if you want smaller servings. Some items come in smaller cans too. A bag of Doritos crunched up in there would be an added flavor for a taco salad. You got this.

6 days. Man, that dealership is out of their minds. Actually, the antifreeze smell from the promaster van is very common.. if you don't detect a leak on the ground, then it is probably is no problem. But I commend the proactive treatment of the van.

That van has been in the shop a lot since you bought it. I’d be getting really concerned soon especially since there’s hardly any miles on it and everything is giving you trouble. Just hope they figure it out and you can have your van back for longer than a few weeks before something else breaks. Stay safe❤️

I imagine as NI is going to be travelling extensively eventually, having a car, even in storage in Florida, it wouldn't be practical to keep it anyway. Be pretty hard to access it should problems arise (hopefully not) in a different state., She's a trooper, that's for sure.

I have the same van and just got the leak fixed. It was one of the new coolant hoses going into the radiator on the passenger side of the vehicle.
