Moved to Naperville from Seattle 2 years ago. It’s honestly such a nice city to live in. Great school, great parks, super safe, close to everything, great downtown etc etc... we’re moving back only because the weather in Illinois is so much harsher than we expected. We will definitely miss it!!

My wife and I do love Naperville. They are politely snobby to an extent. We're from way out in the sticks in IL, Farmers, so they probably take us for hay seeds, even though our land and equipment is worth about 80 of their houses. It only rouses a chuckle from us. I have a good off farm career also, but I'm a farmer to the bone. The time we hit a deer on the way and strapped it to the hood of my wife's Suburban probably raised a few eyebrows.

All great areas! Hotels would depend on your budget and I'd recommend looking along the highway near Lisle and use a hotel finder website for the city to find something in the area you want to explore and includes parking in your stay.

Is Naperville a good choice to move post grad? Looking to move from Wisconsin after I graduate December 2021 and want to have easy access to downtown Chicago whether it’d be for the weekend or if I get a job there. Just looking for something more affordable then an apartment in the loop… would you recommend Naperville as a good choice? I would be renting in apartment most likely…
@AustinWeiss3 жыл бұрын
Do you prefer the suburbs, or the city lifestyle? Are you looking for a social life surrounded by other people your age, or prefer space and a slower pace? There are dozens of neighborhoods in the city to choose from other than the downtown/loop area that would be more affordable.

Great stuff man! Question: I really enjoy the Chicago-area, and would consider moving there down the road (I live in the Kansas City, MO area, so similar in some ways) but one disturbing factor I’ve found-absolutely INSANE property taxes, only going up every year, and have increased by about 40% since 1999. Do you see a major tax reform for IL/Chicago coming in the future? That HAS to change to keep people there, because it’s a great place, as well as continue to attract young professionals such as myself that maybe aren’t even making six-figures yet but are willing to put in the hard work with the right opportunities. Until that happens, it’s gonna be tough to sell myself on moving there.
@AustinWeiss3 жыл бұрын
I've talked about taxes in a few of my videos and unfortunately it is what it is. Chicago is a major city with a diverse age and ethnic population that has lots of opportunity - things that make it attractive despite the tax. In my cost of living in Chicago video I compare salaries to cost of living in several major cities around the country and Chicago is one of the most affordable BIG cities - especially when you factor in the higher salary opportunities. I'm not familiar with Kansas City, but if the property taxes are low and people are moving there you may want to look into investment properties to build passive wealth 👍

Hey there, I'm from California all my life and my wife is from Chicago IL. We're thinking of moving back to Chicago to raise our kids. We got a few questions about Napleville or Westmont: 1. Is it Asian friendly? 2. How the job market for Nursing and IT? 3. Do you also help people find rental? We're thinking of renting for short term until we figure out the area before making a purchase. Thanks!

After having lived in this area for a year, I will openly admit that I intend to relocate because of its lack of diversity (as you're concerned) in work, recreation, and schools. I've had many people lock their car doors during my daily walks, and just overall have never felt welcomed to the community. With that being said, check out the data from Naperville's own website (White - 69.8% Asian - 20.5% Hispanic or Latino - 6.7% Black - 4.2%) and it becomes pretty obvious that many people are not well adapted to minorities in the area.

lived in naperivlle over 30yrs, it sure has changed a lot and not all for the better, the downtown used to be very nice with a lot local stores now its just mostly chain stores and resturants lost a lot of its charm that is used to have. plus a lot the people who have moved there has changed, no more rib fest anymore, one good thing is you never get stuck by trains like the other towns cause there is nor street level train crossings. Taxes are really high naperville, and IL is just poorly run state not worth living in anymore
