This was excellent. All thought I was nuts when in 1983 when I opened my practice on the Naperville/Aurora border (34 and 59). Neuqua Valley didn't exist yet, I-88 was I-5 and 59 was 2 lanes! But it has been awesome and the best decision I ever made. Again, a very good video!

I'm a supervisor to a very nice hard working young lady who is from Naperville and wants to move back (her mom moved her here to Minnesota when she was a teen). She makes Naperville sound so good that I am interested in moving there as well. I am so tired of the bitter cold that Minnesota is known for.

Living in North Naperville area for 25 years. It used to be home to many Tech Companies. A portion was actually called the Silicon Prairie. Now many companies have closed their doors in the Naperville area but there are still some there. Traffic has been a thing here but knowing the short cuts & less traveled streets helps with that. Your coverage of the restaurants was very good. Also liked the information about the high schools I never knew. Curious why North Cental College was left out of the video. Its worth a mention. Lol....I went to highschool here and I still live here. I live right next to the whole foods on 75th. I know a lot of ppl and magazines rank Naperville as the top neighborhood to live in but I can assure you 100% that it is a huge exaggeration...one of the biggest lies that has been circulating around for years about Naperville.....the best west suburb area of Chicago is the Hinsdale/Burr Ridge/Oak Brook/lombard area. I won't even put Naperville in the top 10 suburbs to move to in Illinois. The restaurants in Naperville are just knockoff versions of their main locations in the city. The bars here are a different story. Naperville doesn't even have a great mall shopping center with good stores. That Westfield shopping center is a snooze. The best close-by shopping experience is the Aurora Premium outlet mall by North Aurora and Batavia. The only 2 factors keeping Naperville alive are Benedictine University and North Central College....These 2 institutions bring life and vibrancy to Naperville. If it wasn't for these 2 schools, downtown Naperville would be a ghost town. I'd rather not go into details into a few Naperville racial incidents that have actually made it to NBC and the Chicago Tribune. I'd rather not go into those details because you can look it up yourself. There have been quite a few incidents. Maybe 1 too many for comfort. I grew up here but I personally don't see myself starting a family here. I personally think many ppl that grew up in Naperville return back to Naperville if their life doesn't go as planned. There are very few ppl that grew up in the Naperville area that actually desire to settle there. It's usually outsiders and ppl from Chicago that rave and exaggerate about Naperville. Also, Naperville has a low-key "borderline homelessness" issue. A lot of the hotels in Naperville are filled with people that actually live in those hotels 24/7.....Motel 6, Super8, the 2 Extended Stays, Red Roof, and STAR DUST on Odgen Avenue....I can count about 7 hotels in the Naperville area where ppl are living in FULL TIME 24/7 like an apartment and it blows my mind. Based on how glorified Naperville is, you wouldn't believe it but it's true. StarDust on Ogden Avenue is a classic example.....so yeah this is a nice video but I actually live here and I know Naperville like the back of my hands. Ppl act like Naperville is the Beverly hills of Illinois but it's not. Naperville isn't even better than Orland Park....lol....Naperville isn't better than St. Charles......The only thing Naperville has is "fame".....It's a very popular area and ppl seem to have heard of Naperville eventhough they haven't been there before.
@ShirlBussman3 жыл бұрын
Well said. Is Star Dust still there? If so OMG !

I think it’s all about perspective. I live in Salem, Oregon which is beautiful in some areas but where I live there are homeless people on every block. We have tent cities in parks. Tents in front of department stores. Forested areas also have tons of trash and homeless. They piss and shit in every secluded corner they can find. There is trash left on the streets all over the place. Old, run down buildings with cracked sidewalks and weeds every where you look. There are drugs and needles every where too. And yes, people are also living in motels full time….. gasp. A lot of things you mentioned pale in comparison to other cities so maybe Naperville isn’t so bad eh?
@ghanamafia71992 жыл бұрын
@@zerosashes Never said Naperville was a bad place to stay....what I was trying to convey was the notion that Naperville is one of the absolute best suburbs to live in and how that seems to be an exaggeration TO ME. It's a decent middle class and upper middle class with a few upper class sections. This notion of Naperville being upscale and some kind of pinnacle of Illinois suburbia that constantly get advertised (like this video and magazines) doesn't seem true to me. Naperville is no where near most of the suburbs in Lake County. Even outside of Lake County, there are many suburbs that Naperville can't compete with. Naperville is constantly ranked in the top 3 places to live in Illinois but personally, I don't see it as such. Yes it's a matter of perspective but at some point, THE TRUTH must told regardless of perspective.

Bunch of rich pricks. If you are financially set and have your affairs in order..yes but nevertheless..as a black man in the middle class, this is not a color or ethnic friendly city at all. I grew up here, if you are looking for cookie cutter, this is it. I consider it a gift from the universe I moved away and traveled to discover what a bubble I grew up in. When I visit friends who still live in Naperville 15 years post HS, it’s kind of bizarre how small minded they are and think they live in this big cool place. It has amenities, and serves a lot of white snobby people, that’s why is wins lots of awards. I went to a women in business or commerce meeting recently in Naperville, and it was ALL white, married women. ❤

It's also important to acknowledge that every community has its strengths and weaknesses, and that diversity and inclusivity are important factors in creating a welcoming and thriving community. We appreciate your feedback and hope that this video was able to provide some valuable information for those considering living in Naperville.

Lmfao! I live in NPV, yeah its pretty blah blah blah, but it just so happens to have the most rude, racist, narcissistic, entitled people you'll ever meet. This pretty lil town has been on NATIONAL news a few times because of racist issues and napervillians are the reason BWW had to change their policies nation wide, I used to work at a gym right across, when that happened. People have graffitied racist slurs on HIGH SCHOOL property. I can keep goin all night, but let me say one more thing, here you find middle age people that are not even in good shape, throwing kid's tantrums over not being able to tan... thats napervillians in a nutshell

If you care about it: beware of Naperville's race culture. If you are raising children there, don't. The schools actively erase non-English languages out of immigrant children. Black and brown children are routinely under-diagnosed with learning disabilities and are seen as troublemakers compared to white counterparts. I could go on, but I see others have mentioned some stories so I'll share some facts. Naperville, historically speaking, was a white haven in the 1950s-1970s. Many white south-siders with GI money flocked to the HOAs with "restrictive covenant agreements". Basically, when you bought a house, you signed this agreement to not sell to black/brown families when you leave later. To this day, this is a constitutionally legal way of maintaining racial segregation (Shelley v Kramer 1948, yet to be overturned). I am not saying every Napervillian is some KKK member but these are people's grandparents we are talking about. Many of who raised children with similar ideas, who had their own children, etc. You can't deny /that recent/ history isn't connected to the modern culture surrounding race in that town. If you think racism was solved in the 1960s, you can at least try listening to what others have noted: drug addiction problems (today, pills and coke are prettier than needles) and the hiding of poverty and domestic abuse. Naperville police and social workers will refer the poor and/or abused to Aurora shelters and NPOs, an adjacent suburb with more racial minorities. It's a nefarious game of statistics: it helps boosts Naperville rankings in magazines (and in videos like these) and inflates the numbers for Aurora. Those with power in Naperville continue to dis-service vulnerable groups. But hey...if you're the kind of ideologue who subscribes to "ef you, free loader; I have mine!", you'd fit right in.

We are grateful for your comment and the time you have taken to share it. Personally, as a minority male who did not grow up in Naperville, I experienced firsthand how welcoming the locals here can be; some of the most hospitable people I've gotten to know! Having gone door-to-door in numerous Chicagoland suburban neighborhoods, I can confidently tell you that Naperville has always been warm and welcoming. It is my hope we keep up this culture of courtesy and respect for everyone. As first-generation immigrants and Spanish speakers, my wife and I were drawn to make Naperville our home because of its high-quality schools. We knew it was the right choice when we experienced just how inclusive this community is - welcoming all citizens, regardless of background or skin color, with equal opportunity. I strongly believe that Naperville is a welcoming community, with all parents striving to give their children the best future possible. Although this town has had past issues, I can confidently say they no longer reflect the current culture. Furthermore, minority populations are growing faster than any other demographic within our city - a clear example of how committed we are to foster an inclusive environment. -Rafael Velasco

Very racist area! Areas around Naperville call it Naper-tucky because you still get southern racist vibes, it’s like a haven for people who want the benefits of living near a huge metropolitan multicultural city and want to benefit from that; but don’t want to have to live in the reality that comes with a place like Chicago. Very beautiful homes though.. 10/10 would not recommend for people of multicultural backgrounds

@@davida1251 Aurora is a different city that is more diverse arguably because of redlining. And racism against brown people in the asian community (2 of the 3 cultures you listed) is well documented, even on KZbin, check it out, people from those cultures explain it and break down how it’s often a generational issue.
