If you are told not to take you shoes of...just live them on. In many intellectual or upper middle class families taking your shoes off is considered kind of rude and rural behavior. This rural habit was extended in the urban areas after WWII with the massive urbanization of the population. Today 9 out of 10 people in the Romanian cities are first or second generation from the rural areas for instance many rural customs were transferred in the urban areas. Personally I will take my shoes off entering my small apartment flat...but never ever ask or expect a guest to do that! Europe is not Japan or Korea or Turkey.

About non-stop shops, I noticed that on Calea Bucuresti there are several funeral parlors that are near the flower stalls that are across from the Carrefour next to la Rotunda. I'm sure you know what I'm referring to, since its near your neighborhood, and in one of your videos you walked to Calea Bucuresti at that intersection. Many of those funeral parlors are non-stop, which has me wondering why someone needs to view their deceased relative in the middle of the night. Or maybe those are non-stop to be able to receive cadavers in the middle of the night? About shoes - I have an uncommon condition in that my legs are different length. My shoes have a lift on one side to compensate for the length difference. It is uncomfortable for me to not wear the shoes indoors. I suppose what you're suggesting is that I should buy some indoors shoes that have the lift, then wear those in other peoples houses.

Yes, those funeral parlours are still there as are the flower boutiques. That's where we get our flowers from.

The thing about shops and bars being closed on Easter or election days is not a general thing. Idk about Craiova, never been there but here in Brasov I've never heard about such a thing, and I know for sure I was in bars and bought booze from stores on both occasions, I mean I even worked as a bartender during Easter night or whatever it's called xD

Probably a local rule from the town hall, because, as you will know, Craiova used to be the "Chicago" of Romania! I've always been able to get a drink on election days, but have to be careful not to be seen by the police!

Yeah I know Craiova is, or was at least quite a wild place :)). Interesting though, I never would have thought such rules exited.@@livinginromania

It s not a rule, it s a law and it applys everywhere in Romania. Alcohol selling in a 500m radius from a polling station is banned on the election day.

I don't eat at parties, I always leave early/first. I speak a fair bit of Romanian. I don't take my shoes off if they say first 'don't take 'em off! Always take Uber. Avoid trains, take Maxi bus instead. Christ has risen...just reply 'Da, Stiu!' Avoid booze because nothing gets done that day or the next day. Don't eat loads, just be yourself even if you're now living abroad because foreigners in the UK don't follow what the natives do now do they eh?

In Suceava area , were i am from, you have to take your shoes off, but you do not receive flip flops, slippers etc. I live in Denmark , in august it will be 11 years, and it is the same in Denmark as in Romania, you have to take your shoes off when you entre in a house, and in Denmark is even a bigger problem with alcohol, alcoholism , they are drinking in the public is aloud , and from a very young age. When i lived in Romania , it was not a must , to eat all from the plate. You are diplomat and you know that from this community are a lot of representans in Oltenia 🤭😉😂and you know very well is the biggest not to do in Romania for romanians : DO NOT CONFUSE US , ROMANIANS , with the ,, roma community,, ROMANIAN with ,, roma people,, in the fact there is no ,, roma,, and they know . 😉 Is not a insult the word : gypsies . 😉 Do not confuse romanians with the gypsies ; we romanians HATE this !!! 💪😉Thank you for the video! 😊
