I moved from the uk with my Romanian wife of 6 years been together for 8 years .Bought a house in April last , moved permanently end of July to Romania. After nearly 3 months lapsed went to local police station where immigration office inside and made application for residency. After 3visits and an appointed visit at the police station , with the correct paperwork, 2 fingerprints and photo i got my ID card valid for 3 years, registered with a doctor and private health insurance. I might also add be prepared for an unannounced home visit from the police to prove home purchase and means of being able support yourself. In all process took about 7 weeks , now enjoying my retirement in the little village we chose to live . People are so nice and friendly with time to acknowledge and greet you. Life is at a slower pace in Romania, things take a bit longer to get things done so be patient

Thanks for the videos. I am Romanian and my wife and I live in the US, but planning to retire in Romania. She's not Romanian and, for some reason, I thought this would be easier - haha. Very informative!

Watching this out of curiosity for my husband as he’s a Brit. I wanted to see if the paperwork ordeal is as bad as I remember and you’ve indeed confirmed it for me! Love your voice by the way, very soothing!

Great video! Really useful thankyou. I'm a UK pensioner who is thinking of retiring to Romania with my Romanian wife . I am just reading up on tax on UK pensions and UK share dividends in Romania. I've put my two questions below, but it's likely I guess they are too involved for you to answer. If not do you know anywhere you would recommend to get expat tax questions like this answered please? Or even better would you consider doing a video on tax and CASS Health Insurance contributions for UK pensioners. Questions: I have a UK State Pension and a UK Local Government Pension. I've just read that you have to pay 10% CASS Health Insurance Contributions on pensions in addition to UK income tax. I am not sure how this would work with the Double Taxation agreement. Let's say you get 20% income tax deducted by the UK. Do you get an extra 10% deducted by Romania on top for CASS? Secondly I've just read up on the S1 form which I fill out with the NHS and then as a UK pensioner retiring to Romania the NHS covers my health insurance costs with CASS. Does this mean that I will be exempt from CASS health insurance deductions from my pensions and dividends etc. Thanks a lot and once again great blog.

Too complex for me Jonathan. I suggest you post this question on Expats in Romania, Britons in Romania or Brits in Romania. Someone there will be able to help you. Best of luck. D.

@@Jp.71189 It doesn't matter what you graduated from...no one here hires you for something like that unless you want to do manual labour and no one hires you without a contract beforehand, here it is very illegal to employ someone without a work permit and is punishable and considered a crime. My opinion is to look for another country in Europe and come to Romania after obtaining EU documents...we have many workers from Sri Lanka who come with acontract but at the end of the contract they are forced to leave and those who try to cross the Romanian border illegally for the EU are deported... Romania has borders with very strict controls and it is very difficult to leave the country illegally.
