The great Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback, Mel Blount had a home in Eden Isles back in the 70's. His little nephew was 4 yrs. old when he jumped into one of the canals and drowned. RIP little guy. I can't believe Slidell will ever attain the gracious living, and sultry charm it had in the 90's, with a beautiful and luxurious mall which provided a great leisurely shopping experience. Contractors, politicians, and city planners tried to replace it with Town Center, but that's little more than an overgrown strip mall. The only store worth visiting there is Dillard's. I have lived and worked in Slidell since the late 70's. Was once a great place, the only place worth visiting for great food here is Kenney's. Everywhere else is overpriced and you will likely leave there hungry. The truth is that Slidell was once a great bedroom community for New Orleans commuters who had great upper middle class jobs in the city. Unfortunately Katrina hit the whole area like a ton of bricks, jobs at the port, in ship building businesses, in the oil industry, and in aerospace at the Michoud vehicle assembly facility are pretty much non-existent now and the entire MS River basin is struggling to get back on its feet.

From Slidell and I’m writing a book based on this location. Heritage park is a horrible memory for me. Had a heat stroke and threw up so many pickles. I was 5 😂

No you don’t it’s a shot hole man. Trust me there’s bums every where drug addicts everywhere and the police are corrupt. Take it from someone who actually was born and raised there it’s not a place that you should want to visit

What about the flood insurance? Almost all homes are 8/10 or 10/10 flood zone? Heard there are going to be a lot of rate hikes 1-4K/year insurance ?
@LivinginNewOrleansLouisiana2 жыл бұрын
If you are worried about Flood Insurance hikes, I would definitely look for homes that are in No Flood Zones, such as Flood Zone X. Being a in Southern LA, I would never tell anyone not to get some type of flood insurance, though in no flood zones you are not required to carry the policy. That being said, no flood zones pay the least in flood insurance premiums for peace of mind. Currently those yearly rates are in the $480-$550 range on a home that is appraised around $250,000. I have heard a lot of flood insurance premiums are going up when they are being renewed, which often happens after a major hurricane hits. Here are some flood maps from the LSU Agriculture Center to help you make an educated decision: maps.lsuagcenter.com/floodmaps/

What about the schools? Public and private options.
@LivinginNewOrleansLouisiana2 жыл бұрын
Like most of the Northshore, Slidell has great options for both public and private schools! The best school(s) will depend on your personal preference that you have for your children. I would like to mention though, that in comparison to many other areas of Louisiana, the Northshore is known for its great public schools! 😊 Here is a great reference place to start exploring: www.greatschools.org/louisiana/slidell/schools/

Are there apartments in slidell?
@midnyteblues Жыл бұрын
Yes, tons of different variations from townhomes to condos, to regular complexes, on and off the water, in and out of subdivisions all over town of all “classes”. I lived there half my life (left for military service) and am about to move back.

I say this with all respect possible, you’re welcome as long as you don’t vote blue and bring the high taxes normally associated with voting blue.

School systems are absolute trash and they have one of the worst public school systems in the country as well as there private school is probably on par with your average public school in a different state
