I love Soulard. I live in the West end in the city because I wanted a little more back yard, but I love Soulard market and shop there often. Soulard is so fun and has great homes and is so walkable.

Totally valid point. The yards aren't always great in Soulard but the walkability and entertainment is awesome

"Soulard" may mean drunk in French, but actually the neighborhood was named for a family named "Soulard" I saw a picture of Julia Soulard displayed at Soulard Market.

Hi Jacob! Seven years into living in Metro Saint Louis and there's still so much to learn and visit. Thanks for sharing! Interesting video. Honestly, this place reminds me of Amsterdam except for the mansard roofs.

Thanks for watching! Soulard is really neat. You'd probably like Lafayette Square too, equally beautiful neighborhood in the city!

Cool video. I'm looking to living to the nearby neighborhood of McKinley Heights due to the proximity to Soulard, Lafayette Park, Fields Foods, Old Rock House, downtown, and so many of the South City neighborhoods. I love the architecture and housing stock in the McKinley Heights neighborhood, too.

As a French teacher, I would give your French 20/20 😆 🇫🇷 This was such a fun look at the neighborhood! I’ve had drinks with friends before in Soulard, and I’ve always loved the look and vibe of the place, but clearly there’s more to explore. Thanks! 😊

My wife and I are looking to move with in the next year or so, we are torn between downtown, forest park or west county.

Those 3 are definitely different areas- It really depends on how much you value aspects of the city living (e.g walkability, urban setting, possibly close to where you work) versus how much you want more house & yard space and more bang for your buck in certain areas of the county. The county will have newer built options too if that's something that's important to you and your wife

Good ol St Louis. Soulard is still 80% white and 16% black. When will they ever learn. I worked in Soulard during the renovation heyday. Labor was 90% white and almost 100% Union, which has loaded these dwellings with unnatural debt. On top of that, most of them are "Historical District" and those codes were a profit buster. But compared to similar high end city dwellings in NY and Baltimore, they are a very good deal. Tip: look for structures built by Fischer and Fritchel. Those triple brick frames were WORTH rehabbing!

Soulard isn’t “Drunkard.” Common misconception. It’s named after the Settler & his wife of the area. The “drunkard” doesn’t help our image. *typed while drinking Old Crow. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antoine_Soulard
