And to rhe person that states Australia is the best country? Not even close mate. ive lived in both and can tell you the climate in Spain is generally much better. The food , culture and nightlife not to mention the history is 10x better in Spain. Australis private debt is the highest in the world after Switzerland. Income to debt ratio in Sydney is 12 to 1. I guarantee you. With Steward having lived the life in Spain and knowing the typical mentality of working to live and not live to work. He will have a difficult time adapting to Australian life. Also the infrestructure in Spain is light years ahead. Australias infrestructure is quite poor.

Australian infrastructure is definitely not bad for such a massive and sparsely populated country. What bothers me here is the focus on cars as the main form of transportation even in dense areas like Inner Sydney. Internet has gotten much better in the last 5y with unlimited 4G/5G options available, and cheaper than in Spain. You can do hiking in a good part of the country and you'll find board walks, clean water and toilets. Much less bureaucracy for foreigners coming in, incredibly simple tax system and so on. Nowadays, it's a matter of identifying with the culture and whether you can get a decent job.

Very informative. Entertaining. One of the great things about Madrid is even cheap restaurants are fantastic. Ingredients are so fresh. Cant say the same thing about the USA, UK or Australia which ive visited. You have to spend an arm and a leg in those countries and your still not guaranteed good food. I dont think youll find a country like Spain where people really do work to live.Its typical to work long hours in Spain. But boy its such a fun country Incredible history, architecture, beaches, mountains, food and unbeatable nightlife. Especially the nightlife in Madrid which is amazing. The infrestructure is also fantastic.Roads , buses, metros and high speed trains that take you anywhere in the country with ease. If you have a decent job in Madrid its a great city to live in.

Hey, interesting video mate :-) Surprises me though that after 18 years in Spain you make the same general mistakes regarding weather ;-) To speak of "Spanish weather" in general is as inacurate as saying "USA weather". Spain has 3 main climates: one is purely Mediteranean, warm summers and mild winters. Another one is continental/mediterranean, dry scorching summers and dry bitter cold winters. And another one is Atlantic, basically rainy all year round, with mild summers and fresh winters (similar to England, Ireland, etc...) And then there's the Canary Islands, which are semi-tropical. No wonder when American, Australian or other European immigrants come over for the first time they're often surprised at what they find. An American friend of mine once came to Zaragoza and Madrid one January, he only brought summer clothes. Well temperatures were below cero and half of the country was covered in snow. That was a shocker! I just think it's god to clarify these things so people know better what to expect. Keep it up!
@christophercrespo7885
@christophercrespo7885 7 жыл бұрын
sensi bler he did clarify it in one of his other videos. I like that you pointed that out. Being abroad and speaking about Spain is always an interesting topic especially when people mention the weather "Oh weather in Spain is just lovely". Well not in Galicia my friend...not to mention Asturias, Cantabria, País Vasco...
@pedrofmc0000
@pedrofmc0000 7 жыл бұрын
Even in every region, there are differences. South of Galicia coast has a soft Mediterranean weather although it isn't so known, I';m talking specifically of Rias Baixas. Here oranges, lemons, olives. grapes, melons, and kiwis grow. Summers are hot but not as hot as in South Spain. Winters are soft, it's weird less than 10ºC. North of Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria and Basque country are quite similar, wet weather in summer and wet cold in winter. The colder and wetter is in Asturias.

It's because most foreigners, specially the ones that watch his channel, choose Mediterranean cities (or Madrid).

Manuel NE . Can you then explain to me why there is iron bars in the windows in most of the houses in Spain.It is because of traditional architecture or for fear of house break-ins? . If the reason is the later it doesn't seem a safe country to live in. However ,I've checked the murder rate in your country and it looks very low.

I think the quality of life was better before the introduction of the Euro. I remember with the Peseta always having money left over at the end of the month which I usually used to go away for weekends. That all changed for myself and other people when the Euro was brought in.

Keep in mind that depending where you are in Spain the quality of life can be much higher or lower. So, more or less, the more north you go, the better. For example, the quality in the Basque Country is higher than the one in Andalusia. Same if we compare cities such as Barcelona (higher) and Melilla (lower).

The area that you always drive in Stuart is very likely north Madrid or Las Rozas, and look quite nice, but that is not what most of Madrid looks like, if you want people to know what life in Madrid will really look like, then drive into the the most common "Distritos", such as : Latina, Usera, Villaverde, Fuencarral, Vicalvaro, San Blas, Carabanchel, Vicalvaro, etc...which all look the same, then people won't be disappointed, when they actually get there, and see it's not all nice villas, and clean streets....

Hi Stuart. I'm finding your videos quite informative and interesting. I will be retiring in a few years, and have been doing research on retiring to other countries (I live in USA, southern California, and have no intention of staying here.) Any country has it's pros and cons, as you've pointed out, I believe, and even within the same country, those attributes can vary a lot. My question.....are you aware of any other good vloggers or websites, that cover Spain and/or Portugal? Thanks!
@spainspeaks
@spainspeaks 8 жыл бұрын
Hi Jerry and thanks for the comment. Absolutely agree with you about the pros and cons variation. I haven't seen too many people vlogging about Spain or Portugal. Only a few random videos from students that are spending some time here. There's also a guy that sells property in Alicante and he's got a few videos on KZbin. I spend a bit of time in Portugal and have a few videos ready to upload about what I like about the country and some comparisons/differences with Spain. So, you might find them interesting.

I've heard expression, that the Spain is good for you if you are either good anywhere in the world, or you are bad everywhere you go and you have nothing to lose. I think the most important thing about living in Spain is very rarely mentioned. And this is the positive vibe of the place. The only place in UK which I feel has more or less the same positive vibe is Manchester. But because the return ticket to Malaga or Barcelona is about 40-100 pounds, one can have the best of both worlds: good salary in Manchester and good weather in Spain. And the local ALDI in Manchester is much better than ALDI in Malaga. Yet UK feels like a dodgy political camp now, and everyone sick of all those political games and tries to escape this brexit madness, even only for two or three days in Spain.

What about the state of the roads? No seriously I always hated all those roundabouts one after another, even though someone told me that crashes drop 40 percent from when you turn a traffic light into a roundabout, as well as traffic congestion, but those small high-risk gaps to enter them get on my nerves. Cheers mate.

Stuart, I got offered a telemarketing job in marbella with 1,000 month basic plus commissions. I'm single and 21. could I survive on this? are these telemarketing jobs a short term thing? I've been doing it for years at home.
@spainspeaks
@spainspeaks 8 жыл бұрын
Hi Dean, I don't know much about the telemarketing business so I can't say if it is long or short-term thing. €1000 + commissions is a fairly standard salary nowadays in Spain. You should be able to live ok given you are single. Remember that Marbella is one of the more expensive areas in Malaga, so I'd be looking to live in a cheaper town like Estepona, Fuengirola, etc.

Depends, salaries throughout Spain vary slightly but cost of living vary a lot depending on the zone you live in. If it's just for yourself in southern Spain you should be able to live with certain luxuries and without actually caring for money, but not wasting it. Take into account that with 2000$ you would be in the 60-65th percentile of salary (before taxes), which means that only a third of the spanish employed population would earn more than you. If it's maybe in certain places like seville or Malaga or maybe another exceptions, you will find stuff a bit more expensive in those places compared to other cities or towns.

Depends who you are asking. some'll say "it wasn't bad at all, I've been able to move around professionally, and big economy numbers are healthier than 8 years ago", the unlucky ones'll probably think the labour class has been "prostituted to temporary contracts" and that "they can't properly live and enjoy life" as they struggle to make it through every month. So I guess it's the endless battle between the half-full glass vs the no-glass at all.
