I never planned to go out of India as i have seen my friend lost his father and only visited India after 3 months as his passport had gone for visa renewals. I felt after seeing that " Hamne sari duniya jeet li mager unko kho diya jinke liye hum sari duniya hua karte the"

Best thing is to visit US stay there for few months as a tourist see places and return back to India and thats what I did and will keep visiting every 2 years once and thats the best thing to do. I`m self employed now earlier I was an IT professional but later I quit my job. I want to tour the world .Life is to follow our passion not to be a slave to job,education etc

I don't normally comment on KZbin. I was born in India and was brought to the London UK when I was 3. I grew up here and speak with a London accent. I think the point you are making at 19.33 about your son losing Hindi, is very important. I respectfully think , your son should be encouraged to speak Hindi. This is so he can understand culture ()films, KZbin etc) ant d be able to talk to your relatives through things like Skype. I know that as I look different to english people, I find that having strong cultural roots and family communication gives me pride and strength and enjoyment! Enjoying your videos bahut ucha! :)

My parents are from India but they are US citizens who have been in the US since 1960's. I am a proud American and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. USA is the best country, I have family in the US Military and I really have no other connection to India or any other country. My parents live in NY, even though my wife and I are 2000 miles away from there in North Dakota. My sister and her husband live in Florida because he's in US Army, so his base is there. So we are all over the country but that's OK. U Say different from "Americans". I am not different from anybody because I AM an American. My skin color doesn't define my nationality. My passport does. I don't even call myself Indian-American. Just American. You will only see an American flag outside my house. None of my friends are Indians either. Most are either black, white, Hispanic, Native American, or mixed. I go Hunting, Drinking, Etc. with these people, as does my wife (who is an American of Philippine origin). I am in the same position (in terms of language) as your son. I can understand a bit of Hindi and Punjabi, but I can't read or write it. My parents insisted we Speak English, though so my parents and I communicate only in English. Plus my wife is of Philippine origin so we have to communicate in English anyway. As for schools, I never went to college so that doesn't effect me much. My wife and I moved to ND during the oil boom of 2012 and we got good jobs here, so it's all good. As for fun stuff, we go down to DEADWOOD SD for Snowmobiling, Gambling, Etc..

It's just like dream come true... Now you are a US citizen.. Must have tried hard to adapt yourself accordingly reginol culture, Must have struggled to tune yourself with local Ecosystem... Etc etc... But an important question arises here... How does it feel being a US citizen of 🇮🇳👳 origin..???? What do an Asian meant to them??? Do they really accepts you..?? Are we worthy for them... ?? In my opinion it's No...it's just like you have to compromise with you dignity, your identity... You have to compromise with all those you really deserves... Frankly speaking . .. You are considered like those laborourers that yields more n more... Exm.. CEO's, techies , Taxi drivers, cleaners,DP storekeepers etc In contrary they will be engaged in their pubs, worldtours, nightparties, motorhome bla bla... Lots more " They have different type of nonsenses to waste there time"... Their mindset of being superior race will never ever let you to bond with them... And that's what the truth is??.... Clash of civilisations, clash of cultures... Concept of old age homes is totally unacceptable in a society where someone grew up in their grannies lap Enjoying fairy tales ... I mean it's totally unfair.. How can someone leave thier parent's in a old age 🏡.. Actually you know What our parents deserves..??.. A payback for those all they did for Us... And sometimes money can't buy them the care n hospitiality that's what our duty is to offer them at any cost strictly personally... What the hell I will do with the money wealth and comfort... If I am assured that one day will come when I will be too thrown out of my own house because I am old now.... My children's will get away from me because I old now...... Here I may be a Punctual Employee, A better husband, a better wife, a better father a better mother. I may be a better friend also... But what about a better son, what about a better brother, a better sister a better grandson... A better grandaughter..... Actually you know .. the pain the guilt that we have is the resultant of what we choosed... They almost forgot us why because we didn't cared for them... Finally when we will conclude the whole... We will be Speechless....!!!!! A silence, Lonliness,..... Tears in eyes....

Why would every kid want to go to Harvard or Princeton? Define good college un usa vs bad colleges in usa? There is no one way you know one cent about American education. Extra curricular acitivity for going to study computer science in college , makes whole child developmwnt possible. Self absorbed indians who keep putting hours and hours in self development...are not spreading love in their community. To be there for your friends, neighbors, sport team , community is a part of american value system. To thank your police officers, write a letter to fire fighters, raise money for senior centers, volunteering for community jobs make you a caring and loving person. American education makes you look outside you mind....there are systems here that are meant to make every human feel valuable here. Behavioral assessment is a part of every school here. How did you treat your peers ? Are you grateful and did you collaborate in team work ? The moral development is a priority here. You can make a robot think , but only a human can love a robot 😀 we are very busy building humans here in USA

This is as good as asking define good colleges in India vs bad colleges in India. Would given a choice a kid choose IIT or not? Same way a kid would want to go to Harvard or Princeton...not every kid but a kid with aspirations. If you are on an operation bed undergoing a life and death heart surgery who would you have as a doctor doing your surgery? A well rounded student who played basketball at state level and had 70% in science or a student who got into Harvard medical college studying hard day and night(100% on science), learning all that was to know about heart and how to treat heart ailments? Making community, volunteering work a criteria for admission to colleges is merely forcing kids to do it and not because they like to. This is a way to have a back door open in the admission process. How many of these kids continue to pursue these acts of giving after getting into colleges? If one wishes to instill these values in kids then they should have classes in middle school and high schools teaching them this.

@@IndianAmericanVlogger it is so true what you said. I would really like a hard working super focused surgeon from columbia university who never wasted time in taking up communtiy jobs. Iam guessing that doctir would be an Indian doctor ! Not an American doc who are totally capable of spending 70 percent time in doing non academic things and their 30 percent time is enough to graduate from harvard , princeton...becasue their natural ability to be at ivy league school ia not cultivated . Indians cultivate and harvest INTELLIGENCE .primitive lifestyle all public schools here talk about giving and kindness. They also practice it in every grade.

Are you sure? I mean, the most arrogant people I have met are Americans. And the Indians who go to America also change, mostly for worse. When I meet any Americans, first thing I feel is admiration for their power, growth, control and independence. I also absolutely admire the fact that they feel no job is small and no job is great. I admire that they keep stuff clean and if they keep a dog they clean it's shit on the road (a simple example of sense of responsibility which you will never ever see in India...after all the cleaning of shit is not the job of the elites who own dogs...is it?). When I meet them I really feel there is lot to learn from the above. But good human beings? No. I don't feel they make good human beings. I don't even I have to explain this point. Anyone who lives outside the US knows the non physical filth that is there in the US and Americans are just not ready to wipe that clean. To be fair the Indians who shift to the US and their next generation are free from this muck. But they become complacent and the third generation which actually starts rotting as human beings slowly.

Now India is equally good or bad as US... Very few things are precise.. In India children are in solitude, we have caste discrimination for good colleges, children are given iPad and online tutoring is done... We don't have that kind of connection with cousins that used to be maybe decade ago... There are children in city who have hardly met their grandparents.. People don't socialize as before, every one are busy.... There is absolute professionalism in work place though overtime is not ommitted... Forget about children many adults don't speak mother tongue or adults themselves speak to children in English unlike yu guys trying hard to keep up mother tongue.. If you see all drama that happens among relatives I feel yu are rather having a peaceful life

And I really feel even in staying in USA u always look for Indian ppl near by Indian society and Indian frnds so why not in India 🤷‍♀️🙈 and staying here whole life in USA all alone it’s very very difficult because being as a Indian we have mentality of having a support of our family Wil not be there and we can’t support them when they need so we finally decided to go back and we know it’s not going to be easy to go back after 9 years again going back and settling Bt we took that decision so want to stick on that only 🥰❤️🙏🏻

In their view they are above all the vermin who have to stay in India. But in truth, I have observed that going abroad is possible these days for the Indian top 2-3% that is those who earn more than 25k INR per month. But there are so many youngsters who actually do not wish to go despite having the chance for whatever reasons. So many girls who do not wish to marry an NRI despite getting offers. Now I am slowly feeling that the continuous drum beating about how US and India is like a neo caste system where US is above us in every aspect is nothing but a minority of people protecting their fragile egos

i think "hard working " is overhyped . These branded colleges like harvard have alumni who are nobel laureate to great founders . And getting great scores in sat and competitive exam shows that they might have generally cramed for that particular exams . A full on assesment of the student based on their extra curricular activities shows that they might or have the capability to solve real world problems which is not going to be in the case of asians who's primary reason for joining engineering is generally financial betterment rather than love for that subject . And America is for americans first not immigrants .

Actually this is a true story of me and my brother . Today I am successful doctor in usa but this same opportunity even my brother got it.but instead he decided to stay back in India and practice as a doctor in India itself. The only reason were our parents we didn't wanted them to leave alone even having two kids who won't able to look after them when they are in need . We both brothers discussed about it and my younger brother gave up his dream and he just let me go and pursue my dream in usa of becoming a doctor. He just told me look don't worry I am here to look after them. So today it's only bcoz of him and my parents where I am now. But same way as mam u said with time family bond decreases it's really true which with time happened with me. And I am sure its happening with everyone out there. Today I feel helpless one side but other side I am extremely happy for my parents atleast they have someone back home to look after them. I would say Americans are more civilized but don’t have culture ..

I think a lot of these experiences are unique as everyone's story is different, and a lot of Indians have had different experiences. A lot of think came to my mind, after being in the US for about the same time as you have. A few observations. 1.I have never felt personally that an "American" was superior to some as I was picked few times over my American peers at work. Also, look at how many companies big and small are run by people of Indian origins and success overall of the Indian community. 2. I have worked in India amongst big corporates and have seen subtle discrimination against other Indian groups based on ethnicity i.e. Biharis...South Indians...Ghati etc. I know North Indians who have experienced racism in South India and vica versa 3. My parents visit us for an extended period of time ( 6 months at least)and my sibling all the time and we are very well connected through video chats etc. otherwise. They call them by the first name and are well versed with their everyday life. The same is the experience of a few of my friends as well. Unless you are not living in a joint family then it can be hard to meet parents a lot in India. Many of my friends are so busy within India that they are seeing the parents much less as well Also, many of my friends have got Greencards for their parents. 4. Also, i have observed kids in India also playing videos games and staying indoor etc. these days 5. Experience may vary from place to place, NYC, and NJ, etc. are different with a huge Indian community, and great to see kids playing together including cricket. 6. Education is designed stress-free so to promote thinking. Hence so much more innovation and new ideas coming here. 7. Most Schools have always selected kids based on Academics + Extracurricular. Look at any undergrad or even MBA college essays. They are looking for a well-rounded person. A lot is taken into considerations including the life struggles that the kids have overcome. Their household incomes etc. as many poor kids cannot afford expensive education and are bad in test-taking. Academics alone does not define successful kids as it should not. I also know Indians with average academics, but with strong extra curricular who got into Ivy league schools. Go to any Ivy league Campus and it is full of Asians. Students, Teachers, Researchers, Deans, Department heads etc.

I'm currently in the US with my wife and our 2 year old contemplating going back to India every day. The main difference from my view point between the two cultures specifically with respect to individual thinking is that thoughts, sentences, actions towards most things is dominated by "I" and "My" in the US. These two words are our first one step through the door towards ego of individualism. For example Indians would most often only say "started the car and the coffee spilt on me". Western culture would most often say "I start my car and my coffee spills on me". From here if you imagine how your son's daughter's son's daughter will be like after say a hundred years from now may (or may not) paint a very lonely individualistic picture of life for them. This is the main reason I want to go back. I don't know if it will happen. Let's see. Just my opinion may not be true for all. Please disagree if you indeed do not agree I honestly respect that.

You might have made the decision by now, but here's what I thought after reading your post. The individualism that you talked about is the driving force between so many successful Indian Americans. I would call it a necessary vice to be practiced in moderation. Millenial and post millennial generations in both the countries are increasingly driven by this. Family values are deteriorating progressively across the globe. People are too much driven by personal aspirations to give a thought about collectivism.Its a matter of remembering 90s and the previous years as lines between work and life get blurred. So, I don't think, bringing up kids in both the places will create much of a difference in terms of personality development. The focus of performing for rewards has incentivized individualism over everything else.For eg, just think how the personalities of the silent gen, and, babyboomers vs millennials and post millennials has changed overtime in both countries. Kids will always follow the trends of the society that they live in. We don't live in the golden era of 70s, 80s or 90s any more.

There is not much difference in personality development with the next-gen kids. They are glued to technology on both sides of the globe. People are plagued by social media on both sides. Its growing addiction everywhere. Remote work kinda aggravated it. So, it's a free world now. Children are getting more n more involved in their own little domes and shunning off the whole theory of collectivism. Exceptions might exist., but this is the impact of digitalization and globalization. Things were won n lost when people migrated from villages to cities in search of employment. IM sure families of those times will have similar tales to share. Now, there will be things won n lost when people migrate outside the country in search of better employment opportunities or pursuing higher education. People r glued to their gadgets n ambitions all the time and it will just intensify in the futuristic generations. Your analysis belongs to the golden era of the 70s, 80s, and 90s which truly was blissful before tech disrupted it so bad. The best thing about kids growing in the USA is that they will be more application-oriented inculcating work experiences from childhood and carving their career path from a very nascent stage. This helps a lot later in life. As you very well said, the development of the child is focused on skill development rather than being confused in life and picking up a bunch of degrees to rectify interests later. As far as previous ties with loved ones in India is concerned, you can always have the option of shifting back after spending a few years or maybe after your children are all grown up and can take care of themselves. I will forever support the idea of returning to the roots after accomplishing all duties as parents.

I think you are absolutely right about those silly questions students in the U.S. get when applying for a university. I don't understand why the interviewers ask about after-school activities and extra curriculum activities. Why should they be important, especially if you want to study, let's say literature and they ask you about what sports you do. Isn't it silly? It is none of their business what I do after school. I mean, when I was applying for university in my country (I am from Europe), I had to study for my leaving exam and for all entry tests that all universities require. I wouldn't have had time for any extra curriculum or some stupid after-school activities at all. I had to study, study and study many hours a day, while still attending my high school. Fortunatelly, my country does not care about your after-school activities. They are your own business. From movies, I know that Americans put a lot of stress on sports. Or cheer-leading. I am like: What??? Why??? Why should anybody ask a girl if she did cheer-leading at high school? Cheerleading is nothing but stupid jumping in mini skirts, good only for silly blondes who can do nothing but their makeup, and their minds are empty. Because I can't imagine any intelligent person doing such a stupid activity. And why should THAT be important for being accepted to univesity? It is nothing but a physical activity that tells nothing about your intelligence or knowledge of subjects you want to study at university. So I fully agree with you that Americans don't need to study as hard as in other parts of the world. (And it shows. Just ask any American about any other country than America - they will know nothing about it, I bet).
@IndianAmericanVlogger
@IndianAmericanVlogger 5 жыл бұрын
Totally! 100% with you on this. I think they do this so they can twist or screw the admission system and admit rich influential people kids. With this extra curriculum criteria it will be very difficult for an academically high achieving kid to question why he was rejected. Sad but true😔

Very well put video. Just one thing - About the point you raised @32:00, I must say yes, the infrastructure is (slightly) better in the USA. However, the good uni's in India actually give you more "bang for the buck". For instance, at IITs, we used to learn a LOT from our peers in addition to the classroom learning (which was also quite modern actually). I'm working in the UK currently and see that the education here is actually worse despite the better infrastructure, simply because there's not much peer learning. We used to do the same stuff during undergrad at IIT that they do in Masters at Imperial/UCL/Oxford. Peer learning / hands on training is much more important than classroom learning, IMHO. But you're right on the competition - if we could manage to increase avenues for bright students and get rid of reservation (and improve infrastructure), higher education in India would beat its western counterparts hands down. Again, great video - straight talk without the wishy washy stuff most people think of when they think of UK/USA/Canada.

In usa, govt jobs, private jobs, harvard and all top ivy colleges have reservations since society is divided on race basis. Every race has %age. Native indians 5%, latino 10% , African Americans 15% and 50% to whites and rest 20% to asians. It's completely fair. You don't want Asians competing with Native tribal students. That will be unfair. Also, Extra curriculum and sports activity and interview does matter. In india, UPSE selection is done on that basis. Asians population is 10%, I am glad most of colleges have 20 to 25% of Asians. Harvard started this reservation system in 1920 whe population of jews became more than 50% in their admissions. Hope this helps...
@IndianAmericanVlogger
@IndianAmericanVlogger 5 жыл бұрын
Why was population of Jews becoming more than 50% in Harvard in 1920s? 50% of people in USA were not Jews in 1920s ! Is it because they were accomplishing more than others in education? Because they were more hard working? If so. then is Harvard being fair to these Jewish students who are studying harder, accomplishing more than others to be rejected just because they are Jews and Harvard has decided to implement reservation system? When all students are basically getting the same education ( going to public schools) then why discrimination in admissions because of race? Let more achieving, accomplished, deserving student in. That's exactly my concern.

Would love to see you in USA soon! 👍🙂

@@IndianAmericanVlogger Thank you for the quick reply. It's good to hear about the self-learning approach in the education system and the research work carried out in the USA! It's a dream for me to get into those prestigious universities like MIT, Stanford. See you some day !😊

My 2 cents after living in usa for 19 yrs and coming from a teaching background, i suggest stay in india if you dont like : Taking care of yourself by doing your own Cooking, laundry, cleaning , driving and medical needs. Its a long term lifestyle change herw. The weather is also a concern and brutal in cold areas. The more you live here the more harder you work physically. Intellectuals might not like it , because honor, prestige, special mental ability has to paired with physical ability. Long hours of work here is different...because your food , laundry and cleaning, transport are not being prepared/ cared for by anyone but you. You arw the planner, executer and responsible for fall backs. Cant complain about getting late for work because you arw not feeling well here. You general knowledge about non prescription medication available without doctor advice should be top notch 🤔 You have help from pharmacy, free advice...but be ready to assess your discomfort, stress levels, headaches like a doc who wants to fix things. If you can walk 2 miles a day, eat same food at least 4 days a week (not cravingbfor variety ) , stick to your schedule work and sleep, get on campus job ( small or veey small ) , be willingbto drop your accent to be able to communicate your needs, dress neat, groom regularly....USA is for you. When you accept a new culture to your old indian culture. You add something more.... Purpoae if being here should be to experience a new culture....just because it is a n english speaking country does not mean it is similar to what we think in Indian English. American culture is as alien to Indians as Japanese culture would be ...where you need to learn thwir language to survive. So if you can imagine yourself in a non english speaking country, you will easily fit in here

@@rolijain3985 Thankyou so much for the reply. I personally prefer that kind of life. I am a systematic person and I love doing my work myself. Although I live with my parents till now, even then I try my best to practice the USA lifestyle, doing all my work myself except cooking ( will learn that soon ). Health is my priority no matter where I live, in what conditions I live. I don't feel complete without working out. I had been to France last year for an intern of about 2 months and I didn't let go a single day without jogging. Also once a person gets a life partner things get distributed!

Very informative dear. I will be moving to Philadelphia after this Corona thing. May be, next year. I am 45 and it's quite difficult for me to handle. Lived in India all my life. You have a soothing voice 🤗
