Back in 2014, my wife and I were visiting Venice when my wife had epileptic seizure just as we were about to enter museum. It was her second ever seizure so it was all new to us. In no time, couple of american tourinsts (doctors), came straight to us and offered help. Few museaum staff ladies were in tears and giving me assurance. Someone called ambulence and in no time we were taken to the hospital. Language was an issue so one young girl at A&E who was there with her dad, offered to stay with me for over an hour to make sure she can translate. Italian and specially Venicians have special place in our heart since this day. People with pure golden heart

You are absolutely correct- there is no other city on earth quite like it! I first visited in 1987, and fell crazy in love with the place! I have since visited 18 times, mostly in December, and it is magical in winter! The book that transports me is Venice (by Jan Morris) . Venice has changed drastically since 1987, it had become emptied of Venetians😢. I now go to Chioggia, which has the charm of a living breathing “baby Venice “! But I will return inn14 months, in December again! The city feels much more real and welcoming then.

I enjoyed this video. I have been to Venice 18 times since 2000, always for 4 to 7 weeks. The last time was in June 2017, when I spent a month on Giudecca near Palanca. I really enjoyed Giudecca. I always stay in an apartment and don't feel like a tourist. I go there for my art, but in the beginning studied Italian there. I love riding the vaporettos. The beauty and history of Venice are incredible.

It would be difficult, if you're in a wheelchair, but not impossible. Still, there's the entire rest of Italy you can go and see. Go to Rome, go to Florence, et al. Then there's the rest of Europe. Berlin is the coolest place there IMO. You ask people around Europe if there's any place you should really go see and most will invariably tell you, 'Berlin'.

I just love that you really consider yourself a Venetian. I am not from Venice but I am proud of my fellow Italians from the Serenissima: they most certainly know how to reciprocate your love for their splendid city. Kudos to you for the accurate and heartfelt review of the Venetian lifestyle and common misconceptions!

I love this. I've been four times this year and will be back again soon. I love roaming around observing the way the city operates, especially the hunky delivery guys, running around in all directions, keeping the supplies coming in. Thank you. Wifey and I come to Venice every year (for the last 8 years) our favourite city in the world. I' have learned to become a much more respectful tourist - having more awareness of the inconvenience we tourists place on residents. Your video educates us - and helps more people make the mental shift toward 'polite & respectful' tourism. Thank you. Will be there in 3 weeks time. We have even considered buying something there.

I don't care what Lenny says, I still want to visit Venice one of these days. By the way I totally understand tourists being a necessary evil. I live in Honolulu, Hawaii.
@lecutter9382 Жыл бұрын
Well, there's a difference. There's tourists, and then there's travelers. Tourists are the hordes of mongrels who come in off the cruise ships, walk around for a few hours, don't really spend any money, and leave a mess. A traveler spends time in a place getting to know it and see its gems. They contribute to the economy and they treat the place with the same respect they would where they live. Venice doesn't need the tourists. And the cruise ships are destroying the lagoons.

I was baptised as a local of a very small town in Norfolk a couple of weeks ago. The bartender said “you’ll know where the cashpoints are” made my day. I’ve been visiting very regularly for over 10 years. I live 2 hours away and I consider that place my local.

True about the visiting stars. In the late 90s a couple at the table next to us at Harry's Bar asked us to take their picture (with their camera). When I looked under the man's baseball cap and the woman's enormous sombrero, it was Gwyneth Paltrow and Matt Damon. We were cool and didn't gush.

We missed you Oisin last week, we got there late due to our flight and it took us a while to figure out the water buses and the water taxis . our Hotel was the San Sta stop which was on the other side . Lugging 3 suitcases up and down the bridges and maneuvering the area was like a labyrinth. Venice was fine for the short time we were there but I had a major problem with my carrier from Greece Vodafone and I didn’t have any signal until I called customer support . Our hotel was good and looked to be at least 18th century . Oisin is right on when he said it’s clean . They have green boats that are trash boats that have a device that they get the trash and takes the trash to a location by the parking garages to have them taken away . Our short stay in Venice was still great even though we couldn’t communicate . I have your bottle of the good stuff Oisin . Message me so we can get it to you . All in all food was great and it just takes some time and being patient learning the water system and what stops to get off on . Piazza San Marco was just like Oisin’s photos and Videos . Amazing . Oh and yes the Hotels right there at Piazza San Marco will set you back quite a bit for Dinner . Take your time and check out the local places . Great Northern Italian fare . Great Venice review , we will be back next your again .

So soothing. I see Nico taking a photo of a 36mm bicolor Daytona in his Zuppa di Cozze on Piazza San Marco. I absolutely vote for Lenny For Venice, other beautiful places and, incidentally, our whole planet to survive, tourism must return to what it was in the 18th century. A truly luxurious experience, reserved for the happy few, resulting in a 95% reduction of waste, pollutants and carbon emissions coming from sea and air travel. A couple of very high end hotels, bars, restaurants and shops in Venice and that’s it. Period. The rest of the world, including me, can watch it on KZbin in freezing cold houses because of the lack of natural gas.
