I live 300-feet from huge high tension lines coming from a large substation about 1/4 mile away. Lived here for about 10 years. I HAVE noticed effects in myself (anxiety, insomnia), my wife (frequent migraine headaches, lethargy, irritability), my son (mood disorders and irritability), and even some of the animals we have had. We are all in good physical health otherwise and try to eat well and walk and exercise frequently. We have all had medical exams which so far turn up nothing solid which could cause all these things. I just wonder if it is possible it could be our exposure to these nearby power lines? Even the sound of them is loud in my back patio.

I'm surprised you came down on this side of the issue being a Realtor. Props for having ethics - a rarity these days when it comes to money. I've found the research of Dr. Martin Pall at the University of Washington has the most cutting edge research regarding biological effects of non-ionizing radiation. The "industry" can't have him go away fast enough. You're right about the dweebs complaining that non-ionizing is harmless. There is PLENTY of research showing weird stuff happening inside cells, in cell walls, between cells, when non-ionizing EMR is applied.

Many years ago we looked at a house that had high tension power transmission lines in the back. When we got to inspection time, the inspector got the magnetic directions ALL wrong on his report. It is a balance between the actual distance and the amount of power they are running through the lines along with the amount of ground clutter as in trees and buildings.. In the long run it is not good and some people can actually feel the energy or hear it like ringing ears.. It is 60 cycle in the USA and 50 in many other places like England and Australia.. Try finding a 60 cycle buzz noise on the internet then try and compare it to how your skin feels and your ears ring..

On the balcony closest to the power lines the electric field reading is 190v/m but the magnetic field reading is 0.00uT. What does this mean ? No magnetic field. Perhaps safer?

I believe that in addition to the magnetic field level (mG), electric field (V/m) has to be measured with EMF reader for a full evaluation. One example. Have 10kV step down transformer on a pole about 20f high next to my house. 1) EMF reading with GQ EMF-390 generates 0.5 mG, which is way below below 2.5mG(normal threshold according to GQ EMF-390 info); 2) While the voltage reading with the same GQ EMF-390 delivers up to 100V/m reading inside the rooms next to the pole with transformer, that's 30 times above the normal 3V/m level according to GQ EMF-390 info.

Early stage home shopper here. I came across this video after looking at a resale home (187 Fontaine Rd SW, Mableton, GA 30126). I saw it was literally right next to a power substation. I'd never lived near, or given much thought about living near, a substation or power lines. I pulled into the driveway of the substation (just to get out of the roadway as I Google "is it safe to live close to power lines"?..I swear it felt as if I could feel the hair on my arms move. I know it was my imagination...but this video was enough for me. My DNA is screwed up enough. Last thing I want to do is awaken to inexplicable penile thrombosis...or some creepy growth on my neck.

THank you for the video. I can't believe we just bought a house and we HAVE that meter and we didn't use it. We haven't even moved in yet. I am feeling sick to my stomach because we just found out I am pregnant and we have 3 little kids. I had NO idea that distribution lines can create problems and turns out the distribution lines behind our backyard are creating fields between 6-10 in our yard and 2-3.9 in our house. The kids rooms are at 2mg, thankfully. I am kicking myself like never before and now desperately researching ways we can mitigate it by shielding it and I am going to have to try to get the power company to bury it (for a price).

@@LC-nk5nr So actually the power company came out to our house with a calibrated meter and the highest reading was 1.6mg in the house. The yard was still around 6-10. The Trifield 2 meter was accurate close to the power lines, but it was off by over 50% in the house. Seems like the scaling is off. EMF fields drop exponentially so it makes sense that our house isn't concerning since it IS situated 40-50 ft. away from the power lines. I do feel bad for those living literally underneath them just two houses down from us. How far are you from your lines? Sorry to hear about your situation. What are your levels? If I were you I'd call the power company and have them come out with their calibrated, more advanced and more accurate meter. I talked to several experts in the field and none of them had any clue to suggest that maybe the meter just isn't accurate. I am beyond relieved. It is also very important for me to share with you that the power company actually said they will balance the load on the power lines, meaning, it should help neutralize a some of the EMFs. They are not able to say by how much, but one expert in Canada told me that it usually reduces it by quite a bit. This balancing method is beneficial to the power company as well, because it causes some things to possibly not work efficiently or overheat if things are not balanced. This is apparently a good strategy for high voltage power lines as well, since it is low-cost and a win-win for the power company as well as EMF-concerned customers. So there is hope! Good luck!!!

@@AnaDoll-h7c Yes, distance and total amount of power being transmitted down the wires are the two big factors.. Regular city distribution lines do not have the level of power to do any health damage.. It is the huge mains that go from power plants to sub stations that do have the current levels that can create large electromagnetic fields that reach out hundreds of feet.. Many State building codes have rules about grounding metal objects like gutters, aluminum siding, metal roofing and metal fences that are in close proximity to transmission lines.. You might also look into surge arrestors that go at your main fuse box and a newer device that will interrupt your power if it sees high or low voltages as these could save your home electronics from spike and surge damage..

I have used that meter and it is okay to measure EMF, but it is not accurate for RF. The Safe and Sound Pro 11 is more accurate for measuring the RF of the cell phones, routers, and cell antennas.I got completely wrong measures with the TriField RF,

Each power line is different in their "load" and EMF output, so it's really hard to say. Id' purchase your own reader and take the readings yourself as that'll be the most accurate results. I hope this helps.

Don't kill the deal until you do an emf reading yourself or have the power company do it to ensure the levels aren't too high. Not all power lines are created equal and some put off more/less than other. Just be sure head of time

I always curious what’s the difference between the magnetic fields naturally from the earth and the magnetic fields from the high power lines? The earth's magnetic field varies from about 300-500 milliGauss while the magnetic fields from power lines are only a few milliGauss. If the magnitude of the power lines magnetic fields is so small compared to the natural ones, doesn't that mean the magnetic fields from the power lines might not be that dangerous?

I measured a variety of different lines. I always encourage my clients to get their own EMF reader (I have a link to one in the description) and take the measurements themselves because no 2 lines are ever the same. Not only are they different in size, but keep in mind the height off the ground also affects it as well as the voltage, what it's being used for etc...

There isn't a formal "safe distance" because all lines are different in the EMF waves they put off. 1 kilometer is a pretty good distance away so the effects should be minimal, but if you're concerned about it, invest in a good EMF reader and measure it yourself. That's the only sure fire way to know for sure.

Im a biophysicist by education and a masters in public health but also a real estate broker and sales licensee before that since 1991. I HAVE noticed effects in myself (anxiety, insomnia), my wife (frequent migraine headaches, lethargy, irritability), my son (mood disorders and irritability), and even some of the animals we have had. We are all in good physical health otherwise and try to eat well and walk and exercise frequently. We have all had medical exams which so far turn up nothing solid which could cause all these things. I just wonder if it is possible it could be our exposure to these nearby power lines? Even the sound of them is loud in my back patio. PS. I will get one of those meters and take some measurements.

Definitely get yourself a small EMF reader and measure it yourself. Not all power lines are created equal and put off different levels of radiation. Some much more safe than others.

EMF is measured with mG, a different measuring unit is used for Radio frequency: microwats/square meter. If you have the router on 24/7, using cordeless phones, having your cell phone on, you would be getting a very high amount of RF that can interfere with your sleep. I had problems similar to yours and found out I was afected by both kinds, there was high EMF in the water copper pipes coming into my house and the transformer ground wire had been stolen from the post near my house, On the other hand, I was also exposed to high RF due to not being hardwired for the internet and having my lap top on Wi-Fi. You may need a consultant to take you through the steps of decreasing the RF. The refrigerators emit high mG, but low RF. However, the Trifield didn't measure accurately the RF, but it was useful for the mG.

NO, UULF is not good for your body and brain function.. What is just as bad are heating pads and waterbed heaters because you are in super close contact with them.. There are a few places you can find an EMF exposure calculator with safe limit charts put out by the government.. If you calculate 60 cycles and the several hundred kilowatts to the distance you are from the actual conductors against your body height at ground level it is pretty bad.. You are basically a walking parasitic antenna for all that energy flowing.. Good news is that you can run long stretches of wire that has insulators at the ends like an antenna and harness free electricity if you do it correctly..

It's impossible to say with doing an actual EMF reading nearby because each line is a bit different and carry different power loads.
