While the PC Police may have comments on some perceived offensive perspectives, what is unquestionable is this is a clever parody and the intentions are in the mind of the composer. As a (proudly) British Pakistani, it should be stated that some of the observations were educational for me and that many in the Pakistani community may do well to consider them, even if taken with a grain of salt. There are frustrations within that community about the behaviours of some of the new arrivals. A simple guide that might be useful to keep in mind is 'If you migrate, then you should integrate, assimilate, educate and participate'. Most people want a safe, respectful and better life for their family. While different people will have different interpretations of this piece, that is likely more a reflection of who they are than necessarily what the artist intended. Really good art accomplishes one or more of several things: to shock; to educate; and to entertain. In this case, I think it accomplishes all three and should be seen as unvarnished art. Whether that is what DB had in mind is irrelevant. It may be that his original intent has been reshaped by deeper thinking and feedback along the way. What is more, is that it is entirely up to him if he wishes to declare that intent or remain silent. I would encourage the latter, so that we can have more discourse and debate about the issues raised, whether intentionally or not. My guess is the composer was reflecting some of the frustrations that he, his family, friends, colleagues and others have of the more 'off centre' behaviours of new visitors. In that regard, it should be welcomed by all so that we can debate the place of such things. That is where art can move society and take us all beyond unhelpful divisions. Amazing to think that can be facilitated with a sharply observed parody which won't be to everyone's taste, but that's what makes it both sublime and entertaining, beyond the initial quick laugh or knee-jerk objections.
