You can watch all our videos at www.scienceandnonduality.com
If you really ARE pure Consciousness; limitless, infinite and sublime, how is it possible to ALSO live an ordinary and mundane human life when you're "down in the marketplace?" Can you live "IN" the Dream world with absolute integrity and authenticity, and yet, also experience not really being "OF" that same world, too? Can you actually walk the proverbial razor's edge between being "god" and being "human" by learning, instead, to simply "BE?" Discover practical ways of embracing the perennial paradox of living as a "ONE-ness" that, quite mysteriously, also likes to pretend that it's a "TWO-ness."
Science and Nonduality is a community inspired by timeless wisdom, informed by cutting-edge science, and grounded in direct experience. We come together in an open-hearted exploration while celebrating our humanity.

Great question by the audience member at 39 minute mark. As Eckhart Tolle has pointed out, statements from eastern teachers such as "it's all a dream", and "nothing matters" are philosophical propositions. People get into trouble believing these philosophical propositions when trying to apply them to the real world. What happens when they get cut off in peak hour traffic? They go bananas. So where's the unreality in world if it upsets them so much? It was just an idea in the head.

He likens our interaction with reality as actors in a play, one HUGE difference between a play and what we would call reality is consequence and pain. one of my (and i assume most others) primary driving forces is too avoid pain which is why i act the way i do. its only so helpful to think of life as a play or a game as long as the consequences of our actions are all too "real" - felt, experienced, whatever you want to call it, it still is until you can devise a way in which it isn't

Am surprised that folks with a microphone at SAND do not know the difference between Brahma (creator aspect) and Brahman ( the Absolute). This is Nonduality 101, if you are going to be using these terms. Unfortunately, the error propagates and this error is not helpful with understanding and getting to the root of the illusion. Now if you have read this, please allow me to suggest Advaita of Tantra is superior philosophy to Advaita Vedanta. In Tantra and Kashmir Shaivism, the world is NOT an illusion (due to Maya) but a contraction / down conversion in vibration of Shiva ( the Absolute). Suggest - Tantra Today by Igor on KZbin. And article ' Moksha in Kashmir Shaivism ' by John Hughes of Lakshmanjoo Academy.

For me it is more logical, that there is no consciousness. That consciousness is an illusion itself. That I in I am, is not here. Looking back in my childhood, there is only a projected me. It is an appearance. Thoughts that are appearing in an apparent consciousness. To say you and they are me... it just doesn’t work out. There is only no thing appearing as you and me. And that no thing is wholeness, dao, god...

So existing in a relatively peaceful time/place this may be easier to accept everything. What if you were an African slave in America, should they should just have accepted it? Gandhi who took his inspiration from the non-dual outlook presented in the Gita didn't just accept the situation. He seemed he made a moral judgement, saw everyone as equal and implemented non-violent (ahimsa), non-cooperation. Was he wrong?
@katandmouseyt
@katandmouseyt 4 жыл бұрын

@@katandmouseyt Hi thanks for your response. I live in the UK born to Indian parents but I cannot say I'm a practicing Hindu (whatever that actaully means). However this year at the age of 39 I finally read the Bhagavad-gita and now listen to Swami Sarvapriyananda on Advaita. The speaker says just be and as you say the manifested Universe allows all opposites to exist but in the absolute there are no opposites. My next question is that the Gita does seem to make a moral point. Krsna says to live non-violently unless you are part of the warrior class then that is part of your duty. And anyway you are not killing as consciousness cannot be slain by any physical weapon. Also it seems a moral judgement was made by the supreme consciousness to manifest as Krsna. www.quora.com/Why-did-Lord-Vishnu-take-the-avatar-of-Lord-Krishna

Nilan Morjaria-Patel You had me at Swami Sarvapriyananda! What a gem he is and I was fortunate enough to meet with him this past year. He is a wonderfully gifted teacher and your time is well spent listening to him. I’m not qualified to address your specific concerns with interpreting the Gita verses as there are far better folks than I that can. I’m not even a Hindu,I’m a Texan😀 That said... It may help you to keep in mind that there is ‘relative truth’ and then there is ‘absolute truth’. It is my understanding that much of the Bhagavad Gita is illustrating the dance and struggle between these different levels of understanding.For example, on the relative level we can correctly view human slavery as an atrocious act of cruelty. Morality is indeed applicable here and it is certainly not wrong to be appalled when see others are suffering harm. The fact that we do is actually the best part of us. On an absolute level we can also understand that the universe is unfolding as it should at all times.That which is real can never be harmed. This is the peace of God.

I'd chime in with the more critical comments here. Y'know.. I think I do understand what Chuck wants to remind me of. And he's right: I already know. But.. the more I think about it, the more I realize that I don't know enough. There's just too many questions open. One of the most common ones: If this reality is, as Chuck says, a dream I created for myself, then why is it exactly this dream? And if I happen to want to dream of something else (which I certainly do), why do I seem unable to change it? If I'm merely observing myself, why is it that I can't just change perspective? Now, I totally know how Chuck would have answered to this. He'd just have said: "It's your dream. You tell me". But to be honest, that's the easy way out. And it gets us exactly where we started. Problem is: he's going that route all too often. In fact, it's just a fancy way of saying "I don't know". Which is somewhat fitting because, if him and me are one and the same, I'm only talking to myself, so I can't tell myself something I don't know. On the other side, he also says that it could be me sitting there on stage. But fact is: he sits there. So, I can expect that he knows something I don't. Thing is: I can go into that non-dual awareness, that crystal clear feeling that I am all. I've noticed that in that state the question becomes completely irrelevant. In fact, nothing much is relevant any more at all - except the urge to observe myself, the clear knowing that I am all and can be whatever I want, and the sheer insane confidence that all will be well. But then when I return to duality, I notice there's a huge gap between here and there. And at some point, the question of "why always this dream?" becomes relevant, and I cannot grasp the answer. I clearly feel there's a huge chunk missing in the puzzle. That we're missing to understand the true relevance of this worldly experience. Maybe enlightenment is not the goal. Maybe it's the path. Maybe this reality was designed to ask questions. All I know is that I want to know. I want to know it all, and I won't stop asking until I do.

@@dorothyscott2730 I think what you refer to is also called "equanimity". It seems to be a fundamental characteristic of "the one" or "true self" if you will. In Non-dual consciousness, the drama of life is totally meaningless. I just wonder what still has meaning, and why we (beings in this reality) still engage in drama despite its utter irrelevance. I know there are ideas about it, namely the idea of souls wanting to experience and learn, but.. I just don't think I've truly understood it yet. Maybe impossible in this life.

we have to realize ourselves like miraculous sources of water at their source when they are vibrating to cosmos events and can't be measured any more cause they lost any of their resistivity , they have become conductors . But as we are not just water , we do not vibrate to cosmos , we vibrate creativity by eclipsing our mind for to align it to our creative vibrations and we eclipse ourselves , day and night cancel each others , end of any duality , no more resistivity within the mind , pure conduciveness of creative energy from consciousness .

You are not in it, you are not of it. It is happening up off you. Sometimes (or most times) you decide to jump into it and participate as an instance in it, of it. But just know that whatever is happening it’s happening as per how you are creating it. Just that it’s not being created by the instance that has jumped into it. That instance will find something acceptable something unacceptable, only that way it can be part of it, participate in it. That instance will always have the problems, solutions, good/bad things of the world (creation) because it is in it by definition (you jumped into it for this experience only). But who you truly are, is what is creating this world exactly as you want to. If you operate from that perspective, it’s a grand drama that you are creating/simulating/orchestrating in a Metaverse built of space-time-objects.

I have no idea where this type of worldview originated, probably hinduism? I call it Flagellantism: You have got a maximum of responsibility while at the same time you are granted minimum control. This in itself would not be a bad thing if only the woke crowds in the western world who constantly are screaming and bitching and blaming would adopt it, haha. On YT I have come across quite a few spiritual teachers who represent this view. But it doesn't make sense. If you carefully watch your inner state (over which you clearly have control) and compare it to what kind of feedback you get from the "outside world", then you can easily recognize the synchronicities. And thus you can directly perceive your one-ness. This means freedom and power.

This helped me see how cheap Oneness is. And the idea that I, as Atman, created the World - how cheap that is. It’s like throwing a blanket over the stars to create a special layer of ptotection. A failure of relationship, like turning your wife into a robot. Advaita means not-two, not One. How beautiful, that we are not One. Or worse, The One.
@NoahHornberger
@NoahHornberger 4 жыл бұрын
if you zoom out far enough, all the stars are one dot of light. it's only a matter of perspective. and to call it cheap or valuable does not matter from that distance. the only thing that still has meaning at that scale is pure love. it destroys everything else. Maybe calling it one seems cheap because you are afraid of how precious it is? it's not a robot wife, but a whole robot family filled with your electrical charge.
@markv2087
@markv2087 4 жыл бұрын
@@NoahHornberger You see, but we can't zoom out far enough. This is precisely the point. There is no way to achieve that dissociated distance, no way to find a scale from which things do not matter. Pure love? Destroys? The scale we have is between my nose and yours, the intimate scale, the one we all have trouble with and run away from with so many strategies, isn't it true? Yes I am afraid, but not of the Borg-like One, but of how precious my wife is. I think I've hardly even begun to realize how precious she is. But if I tell her she is filled with my electrical charge she will start giggling. And thanks for your comment, I'm honored by it. Please accept mine as exploration; I have no beef with the presenter and he invited dissent.
@markv2087

@SHRED SHREDDER No doubt. But my point is that you never lose the individual despite the universal. The hunger for the universal is quite seductive, and I think can blind us to other facts. I wonder if you would agree?
@NoahHornberger
@NoahHornberger 4 жыл бұрын
@@markv2087 when I say all stars are one dot, it is not disassociation, but intimate acceptance of a realization. I accept all into my heart as the same light, putting up no filter to split it into objects. When you say "my wife' you are not identifying her, but identifying what she is not. So if you stop 'creating' a subject and a background, everything is the same light. This is my point. And interacting with the field of light is not impersonal or distant, but is at the core of every heartfelt meaning you can experience. Perspective of ONE is that there is only one atom, and it is all things. Unification is not distant and dead, but alive and at the center of everything.
@markv2087
@markv2087 4 жыл бұрын
@@NoahHornberger That sounds good, and I hope that you are able to bring that intimate acceptance into all your relationships, including this one. If so, great work! I think perhaps I insulted an understanding you hold dear, and I'm sorry if I came across as rude. "One" could be, for you, the very word that cuts through obscuring clouds. But for me, this word Oneness does not really apply. When I hear others use it, it usually appears to me that they're obscuring something. I see no self, I see not two, but I do not see One. You seem to be referring to the space before conceptualization, before the creation of self and other, but then -- for my feeling -- to call that one/One/ONE is to go too far. It's to put a blanket over the stars. It's not many, nor is it one. This may seem like quibbling, but when I try to see/feel One, it feels dull to me. It has a sense of pre-ordained enclosure, is what I feel. Is it still there when you're having an argument with your partner? Now, I'm not saying necessarily that that is how One operates for you. But I've seen it operate that way for many people. Mixed with religion, it sometimes becomes toxic. 'One' also has a slightly aggressive feel to me, like putting a big stamp on something. Notice the confidence with which you told me what *I* mean when I say "my wife". In truth, you don't know what I mean by that, you don't know my inner experience, despite your belief that we are one. Feels overconfident. You say, by identifying my wife, I am identifying what she is not. I do understand what you mean, if you're speaking of her essence, which I also believe is the same as yours and mine. But she's much more than that! She is also her form, her bodily form and her energetic form. It's only because of that that I can relate to her. The essence of consciousness is formless, unbounded, and limitless, and an expression of that lack of limits is you, me, and everyone else. Without these forms, we cannot know consciousness and I would argue, it cannot know itself. So without the many, no One.

So you are deluded to thinking you are not awakened he says, well how do you change that ? It's not enough to understand it, you have to experience it. The sense of self that feels 'Not awakened' is the subject-object thought based delusion that covers the experience of oneness and the "Yes" to everything. So the practice you have to do is dissolving the identification with the delusion and settle into or get familar with BEING one without a second, which is always there when the ego or sense of being a seperate self located in the head or heart(or anywhere) falls away.
