yep but you still have to get everything up to permit - not cheap! You have a septic system? Can't permit a composting toilet easily. When I went to the most traditional Berber village in Morocco - they lived off humanure compost for thousands of years - to grow their wheat and veggies in the desert.

I'm sure she's a nice lady. I just don't see the point in watching the vid for the 40% of the population making $15 an hour or less. We can't afford fancy building permits for septic systems, etc. A real off grid living? I lived in a cabin just south of Denali Alaska - with bear tracks all over outside - and moose - we had to knock down the frozen mountain of crap in the outhouse (that was freezing of course). I'm just saying - ... you can't build like that even now in Alaska! You need permits - too expensive! The Old Timers just threw up cabins with no insulation, etc. I'm talking 1980 by "old time" - not that long ago.

This entire pandemic, I have been watching KZbin videos about these people living in a tiny house into the woods. It makes me happy and help me not think about when this pandemic would come to an end. The only thing I've learned during this pandemic is that people like her living away off grid are the luckiest of all - pandemic hit the cities with many people but never heard of isolated places get infected with whatsoever. The fact that they have live there years prior to the pandemic its normal for them not to see much people around and enjoy their normal life without mask on. I'm currently working abroad for the purpose of me being able to experience how people in the city live compare to where I used to spend my entire younger life in the province and it really is very different. After this pandemic I would surely head off from the city and go back to living in a peaceful, liveable and worthy life in the province/mountain. Oh, I'm 26 btw but I love how she's spending her life.

I myself was a sworn spinster before getting married at the age of 36 many years ago, and it did not faze me at all to be called as such. Beautiful Home, beautiful lifestyle, beautiful Human being, and of course, a beautiful doggie. Tiny living however is forbidden in many areas of the U.S. If you go off grid, the local monopolies cannot make money off of you. A real choice of living is real freedom. Congrats to Ariel.

We have been living in our self-built homestead for ten years now. Raised our daughter here. Our best advice for someone wishing to homestead in a cold climate (I guess anywhere) would be to super insulate. Everything thereafter will be easier if you have a tight homestead 😊 Best wishes from SW Wisconsin!

Ariel has been living in her tiny house about 3 years longer than me. Our houses are almost identical except hers is 2 feet longer. I built mine unlike her. I used the same plans from the same company. I told her if I had to do it over again, I'd have a builder do it. It took me over 3 years and I'm still not 100% done but overall I am happy. The problem I had was finding a good electrician and plumber. Tiny houses are fairly new so not many familiar with them. I pretty much live off grid like her...hand pouring my own water etc. That does get real old but I am 62 and had major back surgery a few years ago. You did a great job doing her video!!

The tiny home/ off grid/ homestead life interests me because I really like having a purpose to my life. I want a much smaller dwelling and the savings/effort it takes to function daily. We've all lost that sense of purpose that comes with gathering food and getting firewood and living more outdoors. It seems like it would be more comfortable, but we lose a sense of purpose and intention in our lives that has a unique reward for people. #intentionallife BTW the use the word hearth is ancient.....
