I have been off grid over 20 years and built my cabin for under $2000. No house payments, no utilty bills and freedom!

Might want to rephrase that... :D "...no utility bills, just financial freedom" would been better statement, though you can never be free.. government will always tax you. If you think you are free, dont pay taxes and you will find who actually owns your land and other property.

@@solarcabin You can do that voluntarily - but instead you want people with guns stealing from people to enrich governments. Government is like someone randomly without you asking mowing your lawn and charging you $2k then threatening you to pay or armed men will come to your house and they will steal your property. Doesnt matter you didnt want your lawn mowed for $2k, you must pay because you were given a service. You advocate theft and extortion.

I love how you mention seemingly small details that people may overlook--like when you mentioned the window in the kitchen allows you to see the front of the house to see when guests arrive. Seems small, but our home has few windows and bedrooms are toward the back of the home, so it really sucks when we're in the bedroom watching TV and waiting for a pizza, a serviceman, or guest because we have to keep getting up at every little sound to look out the window in the bathroom--and if someone is in there and not looking out, we have to walk to the living room. Sounds dumb, but it's a pain! Not everyone uses doorbells! lol

Definitely square off the arch ways and paint it white would make that home so much brighter and bigger! The odd coffee get a can of coffee and a few plastic bowls pour coffee in the containers leave for 2-3 days dump coffee grounds outside should take the smell out!

Nice point by point coverage of this property Wayne👍. I have been looking at "Amish" style cabins and also homes that have a "log" looking exterior. Downside of log cabins is the settling and shrinking that occurs over time and the need for adjustments for stairs etc.

Major things holding me back are 2 kids that we want in good school district and wife's high standards of living. However, I am slowly getting those standards down as she slowly realizes she has no time to enjoy the things she is working so hard to own. You'd be amazed how little a "good school district" matters. As long as you're not in a criminal urbanite hellscape, even bad school districts are fairly good. Most of the child development is going to depend on the extra assistance they get from the parent. Most good school kids without parental assistance get nowhere near a shitty district kid with a bit of proper parental help every now and then.

I think I would be asking for a 30yr mortgage and just pay extra per month if and when I could. $500+ dollar minimum is a lot easier to cover versus over $1K+ plus taxes and insurances and gives a person room to breathe. Installing a carport or garage would be my first job and start getting bids on the interior if I was not doing the work myself. Those random holes in the walls give me red flags I would be testing for illegal things being created in that house and not a pony living inside for smells.
@tracyjohnson5023

Same here. Make an extra payment to principal every quarter cuts a 30 year mortgage to 15 year. Yep, meth heads put holes in walls. Anybody can buy meth test kits and test houses. Check deeds too. Here in Tennessee, if police involved and home was used to make meth, it goes on the deed forever.

Satellite is slow and more expensive and will not work at all in bad weather. I bought a mobile hotspot with unlimited data so I could still play games and use the internet then covid hit and they started limiting my data so now I'm down to just using my cell phone for entertainment. In urban area you open faucet and you have clean fresh potable water "unlimited". Same for toilet . In rural zone, no water ? Simple, find where and how deep and pay for a well. Then. Need a pump. Just replaced mine for 2K...and waited 2 months to received it. Read 2 months without running water In the house !!! I´m lucky, i could use sum pump water for washing and flush toilet. That means filling soda bottles In the sum pump hole In the basement, carrying it upstairs everytime. The good point you learn respect toward water. How much water you use for you or your family to take a shower ? ...ô by the way, that water is COLD...must find a way to HEAT it on your kitchen stove...for your daily shower... Then, With new pump, the water then is stored in a air pressure tank that have a diaphragm in it. Half that tank contain your water and half of it is air. That diaphragm will burst after 10 years, just like pump. If you can´t just replace diaphragm, you must replace the complete tank. It´s use is to avoid water pump started every time you open a faucet. Less noisy and extend pump life. In case of power surge you also water in reserve. Then, You must use water filtration system that here too, won´t last for ever. Must buy, carry heavy bag of salt for it, refill it and accept more or less noisy time every week so the system can flush and clean itself. Most of the time people choose when they sleep at night and don´t need to use water, cause at one part of that cycle, you have almost no water running in your faucet. So, Now you´re happy. You have a well, a pump that brings you water, a pressure tank for it and a filtration system. Happy ? Wait... Everything is fine...but water taste iron...or rotting egg....you have iron in it, or sulphur... Then, You use an UV filtration system that kill all bacteria plus replaceable filters. Depending on their grades, those 3 filters can be "costly" and lasts X months. Now, lucky guy you can drink fresh clean water.... But wait !! That UV system takes a lot of time to filter water. So here too, you have a second pressure tank...and a small pipe faucet that makes it longer to fill doggy water bowl... Then, From time to time, you must have a professional that will come to clean your well...and remove sort of mud on its sides... And then, Once or twice a year, chlorinate that well ! It means pour chlorine in it, pump that water in the house, use outside faucet to throw it back in the well, so as to mix chlorine good, then use that mixture in all house piping....don´t use any faucet, toilet inclued for a good 24 hours. Then, You must flush that chlorinate water off your house and well too. It´s a long process. Good also to warn your neighbors. May be they use the same water spot than you. Now, sip your glass of water, you pay XXX thousands bucks for it and worked a lot. Champagne is easier and cheaper... Then, After you drink....you pee ! Septic system now... Depending on land size, type of soil bécause may be you can´t, and finally size of house or if you prefer how many people can live in it, how many toilets....you must dig a hole in your backyard. I hope a backhoe can have access...or bring shovels and friends,.... In that hole you put an approved plastic or concrete tank with a partition in it. The first retain the "solid" read shit, the liquid will flow from it to a second one then in plastic pipes in sandy soil where it will be filtered. That piece of land should be free of trees with nothing on it. A swimming pool on that location is a great idea to destroy those pipes, due to weight...so except grass that may be will dry up in summer, that space is mostly useless. Then, When damn tank is full, you must pay somebody to empty it of your shit and inspect it at the same time, hoping that everything is fine.... So i hope to help you a bit. In urban area people wash driveway, let water run for hours for their grass and flowers. They complain about water taxation or metering. They don´t have a darn idea on scarcity and work required to get that "stinky" chlorinated water and add those fancy filtrating water jars.... Didn´t i mention that unlucky can have dry or polluted well..... How does it cost ? Go on Google and check price of items i mention here to have an idea - things i never done before buying, coming straight from the city.... learn how those things work and are interrelated !! Then you´ll know ! If in case it´s "yes" in your mind, you´ll be ready to search for your ideal paradise . Footnote : my pump had just a faulty leaking gasket. Letting air in, just luke a hole In straw, only air comes to your moth. It was confusion on Google for parts number, so i ordered the same one, American builted (Franklin Electric) so as to have spare parts...and anyway i plan for a swimming pond with an island on center for BBQ and friends...so a pump i will need... So am i still happy may be you ask ? Well, 7 acres, my small private forest, huge space for gardening and my dreamed swimming pool yet to build...when i think back in the city where you must park in the street when you find a nearby spot with neighbors everywhere... You bet. I don´t regret... Didn´t i mention you the joy of having a forest ? You know dead trees, those falling from icy rain, the mountain of dead branches to remove, the cost of tree prunning... I´ll keep it for an other story... Every day is a story in itself... Cheers !

I don’t think you sound that happy but you are telling the truth about all the work and money. You forgot to explain if your well dries up and the expense for the electric wire and box that insects can get in and short out your whole pump 😂
