Beautiful spot! I live in Vung Tau, Vietnam and we have the same issue with trash. Vung Tau is a peninsula, so during summer I swim/ surf on one side when the winds are offshore and when they switch to onshore around winter, we go to the other side cause of the rubbish. Feels like an impossible situation, but thanks for addressing it and not just skipping it over. Good luck to you!

Hey Brooke, nice video. We're now onto week 3 here. After 6 months travelling, diving, hiking, and biking around Thailand we came here as the last island stop before home, but we're finding it hard to leave. My Thai GF came here 20 years ago when Pooh Bar was the only place here to pitch a tent, so we're back here with Pooh and Soi staying in a room thats under the tree my GF tented under back then. The diving and snorkelling is fantastic - only 8 mile left and we've done every dive site. Stonehenge is our favorite. We bought our mountain bikes over which makes getting around easier, we can even bike along Pattaya beach at lowish tide. A couple of things - The plastic waste is annoying, as is the fishermens waste ropes etc. Even the amount of rubbish at Secret Beach was depressing. We've done a few beach cleans in the last 6 months and I usually spend my mid-dive lunch break picking up bottles and plastic from the beach/ocean on whatever island we are on. However a friend got fined 1500 baht in Hua Hin for cleaning the beach because it was classed as 'work' by the policeman and he didn't have a work permit. So crazy, but TIT. We found Secret Beach on Day 1 the same way you did, but a closer look at Google maps shows it's not Secret Beach its actually Patai Galah Beach. I tried to find other paths in the bush but there are none. We are going to try snorkeling around to there today. I'll let you know if we are successful in finding the real Secret Beach 😁
@stangoodvibes2 жыл бұрын
EDIT: It seems it is Secret Beach. We snorkeled there from Pattaya Beach and went past it and did find another couple of small bays, but nothing like this beach. Leaving today😭 8 mile is a fab dive site!

I was on Ko Lipe February 2018 and there were 6 to 8 boats in the now congested bay. During normal pre pandemic times most of the boats were taking tourists snorkeling to a couple of the larger nearby National Park islands. During covid you can see many boats parked in bays on every island. I was on Ko Tao February through May 2021 and the same thing, many parked boats. With 3% to 5% of the pre covid tourist numbers, staying on Thailand's islands is a chance of a life time to visit uncrowded locations. Normally Ko To, and many islands, can be expensive. During my stay on Ko Tao I paid 1/6 the normal accommodation rates. A chance of a lifetime if you like quiet, non crowded islands. On both islands, almost every day, I was snorkeling one or two times a day. Both locations have excellent snorkeling off the beach, especially Ko Tao.

Nicky, you are such a nice person. Your comments always make me smile and feel grateful. I truly am enjoying living on this island, and am never bored! Always in awe at the natural beauty. I actually recently deleted my patreon because men kept asking for “uncensored content”, “bikini photos”, and nude photos. I’m so tired of men treating me like a sex object. Fortunately, I planned well in advance for this trip, so I’m still living off my savings and don’t need others to “support” my travels. The best way you can support me is just to watch my videos (and enjoy them!) ☺️ Thank you for being a beautiful ray of light in a sea of internet negativity and entitlement. Hey Brooke. Awesome as always. Just wanted to point out that more than 90% of the plastic in the ocean comes from commercial fishing. I think that, in addition to not buying products that are packaged in plastic, we also need to lobby hard for fisherman oversight. Awesome vid, and holy crap that island looks amazing. Need to go there!
@BrookeonFoot3 жыл бұрын
It’s actually around 46%, not 90%. And the plastic that washes up on the beaches- and specifically that I am living with (you know, because this is a channel about my life…. Lol) are plastic bottles (mainly), and other smaller plastics. And also a lot of styrofoam. As I said in the video, it’s a complex issue with many nuances and many to blame. I would encourage you to check out the link I included in the video to The Ocean Cleanup Project. They are the organization that is actually collecting and analyzing this data, where you will find much more than I could reasonably fit in a 2 minute segment.

Coral are especially sensitive to fluorinated vinyl and fluorinated carbon pollution. So the recent releases from Dow Chemical USA in Russia and the releases of VX from the chemical weapon dump in Georgia have devastating effects on Coral reefs.
