Hey guys! I'm Alexandra Gater and I show you how to do rental-friendly upgrades and DIY projects on a budget. New videos every Saturday! Today is a special makeover, for a couple who fled the Ukraine and are making home in Toronto. I'm honoured they asked me if I would makeover their living room into a cozy, warm and inviting living room for them to lounge and unwind in. The couple has different styles - one loves colour, the other loves neutral tones, so I have to figure out how to create a space that they will both love!

Do you have any tips on how to organize space with a new born baby. My sister is 23 and has a 2 week old baby. She lives with my mom, and there is no space. My moms room is in the living room, and my sister stays in the room with her boyfriend, and baby. Any tips would help. My sister deserves the world and I would love to see her room transformed. This couple totally deserved this makeover. Poland has been accepting refugees but they’re stance on LGBTQ issues is frankly beyond backwards. It’s a part of my country I am not proud of. I also wanted to say I have this couch in this exact size and it is the most comfortable to sleep on. I absolutely love it.

I cried. I'm not sure who said "This feels like home. I haven't felt like I've been at home since February" ... My heart almost burst. And I saw a TARDIS! You KNOW they're good people if they're fans of Doctor Who! They were in 15 or so shelters! And someone actually said "Just go back to Russia." I have experienced so many emotions with this one. I had a crappy night. I was just in an accident and so I guess I'm all in my feels, but this video made me smile and cry. I'm so thankful to be okay and was not expecting to be in tears at the end seeing those 2 ladies having fled a war with just what they had. So thank you for cheering me up. ❤

You get the humanitarian prize with this one - oh so well done on every level. The world needs more people like you. So very kind and generous of heart. I know this was life-changing for two displaced people who've lost everything. A home is a welcoming sanctuary and you gave that and more to them. I do love your design too:). This was wonderful! Beautiful job for a couple who have suffered too much. They fled from the Russian invasion but couldn’t get help in Poland because they’re lesbians (the irony of being told to go back to Russia - so dangerous there for anyone LGBTQ), then more fleeing for a loving couple just trying to find a home. Yay Canada for opening your doors and yay Team AG for making their space into the home they’ve been wanting!

That was an unexpectedly and incredibly uplifting experience (because it was far much more than a video from someone from whom I look forward to viewing most Saturdays). You and Team AG helped get me through the worst of the pandemic… so instead of drowning in a vat of good red wine (although we probably did this during month 3 of shelter in place), I repainted the laundry room and the bathroom and created gallery walls and hung shelves. I remembered your collective laughter at Alexandra’s over-spackling job on a non-gallery wall as I spilled and cleaned up and dropped nails behind furniture. Thanks for creating joy in the world by doing something that truly lights you up. I am subscribed and proud to be so. Looking forward to many many more videos! And I’m saving up for a leather Article Sven sofa like the one in Rickie’s studio. Love from Portland, OR, USA.
