The Lexus RC-F may be getting a bit old in the segment, but it is also the last one with a naturally aspirated V8! This is a quite rare and special Track Edition that does cost over $100k but comes with some very unique touches. Extensive carbon fiber (including a properly impressive rear wing), carbon ceramic brakes, weight savings measures and even blue carbon fiber trim inside! Compared to the latest generation BMW M3 and M4, the RC-F is not on the same level of pure power and performance, but after a week with this 2023 RC-F Track Edition, I grew to really like this luxury performance coupe! As mentioned in the replies. Every vent on the RCF is functional. Side fender vents, rear bumper vents... 100% functional. The front intakes cool the oil and trans cooler but also cool the brakes. you can see the opening inside the wheel well. Love my 2020 rcf. you don't see them anywhere. No one knows what the hell it is and just assumes it's another rc350 or 2 door lexus. This and the GSF are very underrated cars, infact most people crap on it which is fine. NA 8 cylinder that sounds wonderful (once you get a different exhaust or change the mid pipe), they are too muted from the factory... but again. The folks buying these cars aren't wanting something loud. Lexus gets that. Extremely comfortable to be inside and toyota reliability... They are built extremely well. Tons of other cars that are faster and cheaper than the RCF. But that isn't the point of this car. Most don't understand that.

Your POV was very nice and honest. I really don't think ppl appreciate a vehicle that is virtually maintenance free and Toy/Lex has freakin nailed it!! I pick up my RCF FSE 2022 and stoked! My wife and I have owned nothing but Toy/Lex and they are crazy reliable. German, American.....not a chance in hell would I buy one!!

@@ju4121 Not sure as I don't care for German or Italian cars, but there is a Carbon Package available for the base RC F at no little cost. You can pick up a late model with everything for around 50k, add on a carbon hood and wing, and there's your "Track Edition".

Obviously. It's slower around a track than a $50k mustang or supra and barely more affordable than GT4 which will trounce it in all performance aspects. It's a big heavy luxury car with a great engine. It's not a track car, and it's not a sports car. It's honestly a terrible value proposition anywhere north of $70k

The front side vents are actually functional if you turned the front wheels enough to see behind them where you could see in the wheel well lining there are slots . If you were to take it to a car wash with a power wash you could see that the water sprays all the way through the vents if you wanted to test what I’m saying . With a Meisterschaft full exhaust the RPM jumps to 8 k . You can also fit 285 size tires in the rear with no rubbing no spacers or issues like I did. If you put it in sport + Trac mode and hold down the traction control till it turns completely off a prompt will appear on the dash that says expert mode . The vehicle loves to be driven hard at high RPMs and although I equally love shifting with the paddles it’s way faster and crisp in sport + in automatic . I hate that it has a CD player and some outdated features but I never ever use the radio I always have the windows cracked and just listen to the engine and rev matches when it down shifts as so slow down . Very satisfying vehicle even if it isn’t the fastest on the road .I realized no matter what vehicle I own there will always be someone with a better faster vehicle anyways so why not have one that’s relatively cool looking is relatable AF and is rare and appreciating in value compared to everything else that depreciates and deteriorates within three years of ownership like the German counterparts that are quicker yet have so many issues the older they get. I looked up even old 2015 RCFs and they still retain resale value with high mileage which not too many people can say about BMW Audi or Mercedes unless it’s a very exclusive model with specific packages.

Another great review! No matter how sporty, Lexus still wants its vehicles to retain some modicum of 'Lexus-ness'. So they will work very hard to straddle between performance and comfort. The RC F does not speak to me personally, (I'm a sedan guy.) but I think it's super-awesome. The transmission in the RC F is the same in my IS 500 and in order to maximize the fastest shifts (in Sport+ and Manual mode), the RPMs have to stay above 4K. The speed is there and is rewarding, but unlike the forced induction competitors, Lexus makes you work for it. (Which I find oddly satisfying!) 😀 Thanks for posting!

And needs to be in manual mode, not drive, in drive the paddles work but the transmission shift slower, in manual mode it’s much snappier.

not with that slug transmission. A whole second between shifts, and this paperweight costs $100k? even a supra is faster in straight line and on a track than this "track edition".

@@Therealtrump544The RCF 8 speed transmission shifts in .2 seconds or 200 milliseconds which is the SAME exact shift speed of the ZF 8HP 8-speed automatic transmission in the Supra. ROFL!!! The Supra is a 2 door sports car and the RCF Track is a 4 seater luxury GT LOADED with carbon fiber parts and leather. Apples and oranges! Bro... you CLEARLY have no idea what wtf you're talking about.

@@Therealtrump544 The transmission wasn't warmed up. Watch the rest of the video. It gets better later. The transmission is actually capable of really quick shifts, but it doesn't give them to you unless it is up to operating temp.

Love this car such a dope spec, FYI the Aisin has to get up to temp for you to get the 100ms shift speeds. If not it will bog its more V8 R8 S tronic reminding with the first 2 gears than ZF8. Also have to be in manual mode in Sports+ to get those shift speeds at temp etc. Fastest RCF around the track and a great baseline for track use. People who buy this car dont want to save money they want the best RCF made as a baseline to run either on the track or drive home. Great platform very underrated. Remember this car is lighter than the M4 now and weighs roughly as much as a M2. It's a rare car highest spec F car and for enthusiasts who have the money for this higher baseline. Great review! More Sports + Manual mode shifting :)

I second that. I love how you go into such detail and have a nice flow to the videos. I have an IS500 and that's partly because I didn't really want to pay RC F money when I could get the engine in something for less. But, I've driven a couple RC Fs and for sure see what you're getting. The handling is better for sure. But honestly, I think the track edition is kind of expensive for what it is. I'd just stop at a decently-equipped RC F and skip the TE.

The transmission response with the paddles was slow because the car was cold. You have to drive it for 10-15 minutes to get the most out of the transmission. I have an IS500 for reference - same transmission. Also helps if you select manual mode instead of leaving it in drive. The transmission is a little dopey sometimes but really comes to life in manual mode. It's definitely a perfectly imperfect transmission. I like how it gives a little kick on the upshift and has very aggressive engine braking on downshift.

Lexus is never shy about carrying over various components for every non LC rear wheel drive model. I keep seeing the ol lady's 2014 IS250 stuff everywhere. I'd have to go lc500 for that money.

With the doors, you didn’t put your hands all the way inside the handle for it to unlock. Also, the “button” on the handle is for LOCKING, not unlocking. Just an FYI.

you're not shifting right in these vehicles lmfao, when you downshift you have to let go of the throttle or else you will shift slow. During upshifting in u arent in WOT or at least 70 percent of WOT it will shift slow to release strain from the transmission, you will find that when you are putting max effort the car will shift very snappy, learn how to drive the car before giving your comment. I do agree however that 100k is way too much for an RC

Most us mere mortals have never been to a track and have no interest in going to a track , can drive the wheels off our standard well loved cars/trucks and know the true value of a reliable vehicle . The RCF/ track is a car of dreams. I'd purchase the track edition/ or mechanical diff version , as my only concern would be a future diff repair bill on the electronic diff RCF.

Nice car!! Still overpriced but love the idea. I’m thinking about a base RCF and then getting my own carbon fiber parts, could basically make my own track edition by simple aftermarket parts easy to install and save 30-45 k lol.

Nothing wrong with the transmission...you just have to learn to drive. My upshifts and downshifts are crisp! That being said the LC500 10-speed tranny is slightly better.

Honestly overall it is a great car, but the track edition is not the way I would go. You could get a brand new M4 fully loaded with CCB for the same price and the tech is beyond better in that, and are reliable. But I would get the non track edition over a new M, just for the motor.

I see you have a review on the gtr as well, what are some of the biggest differences overall for the 20/30k difference In price, I’ve read multiple comments stating that once you drive the rcf you’ll feel the true performance, that 0-60 times on paper dont don’t do the justice

I test drove an RCF and it was pretty disappointing. I've got a Giulia so of course the bar is pretty high when it comes to chassis tuning, handling and steering, but I felt nothing driving the RCF. It does sound amazing, but it's 2024. They need to fix the transmission and reduce the weight by 300lbs.

If you don't put it in manual mode the paddles shift like poo as you've seen. Not an accurate representation here. Nevertheless it's mostly show no go.

More utility with this one, and it handles better too. It's also a lot more functional for track purposes. LC500 is all about the design with very minimal utility. But at $100K, the LC500 makes a lot more sense.

500 HP is a stretch… it has 472 but whp is legit not even 400… I have an RCF and I love it. Just want people to have the right info

This car really puts out closer to 445hp at the crank. 472hp is a very optimistic result but I'm not surprised. Toyota likes to overstate numbers.

10 speed shifts/reacts faster but holds it back at the same time. It's the reason why the LC500 is slower than the RCF. 10 is just too many gears and Toyota awfully spreads the gears too far apart.

I’ll be brutally honest: Unless you’re really serious about tracking an RCF, this car is a serious waste of money. The amount of weight shaved off doesn’t really justify the price point. You’re paying roughly $35k above a normal RCF for a carbon ceramic BBK and a CF spoiler (which again, makes sense if you’re going to track it). Now, I personally don’t mind the ‘outdated’ interior, but I wish they would’ve at least installed a flat bottom steering wheel which track weapons in this segment normally do. It still uses the same adaptive transmission found in the IS500 and normal RCF, which should feature a more aggressive version of their direct shift transmission which Lexus could very easily tune themselves. At this price point, all vents should be functional. And if they were really serious about shaving off weight, they should’ve started with the rear “seats” and stereo system. Not a big fan of the way it looks either. My opinion is that the headlights make the front end look absolutely hideous and could’ve done a better job like they did with the LC and the ‘21+ IS lineup. Overall, Lexus wanted to create a track car that was also usable on the street, but the problem is that the normal RCF already accomplishes that mission and the Track Edition fails at being a proper track car because of it.

Blah, blah, blah......nothing but nothing compares to Toy/Lex reliability and maintenance free ownership!!! All this race shit can easily be accomplished with aft-tuning. I have owned Toy/Lex for 20 years and will never buy another brand!! Just bought an RCF FSE2022 and will baby it!!!!!!

Ugly headlights and taillights. Ruins the overall look of the car. 2015-2019 pre-refresh looks infinitely better! And $100K for this car is extremely greedy. Love the V8 though, it's the one thing that sells it, but not worth over $65K. LC500 and IS500 are much better buys.
