Minimalism is based on principles about keeping what makes your happy - like your fav items- and discarding the rest. It's about owning less and only essentials for several reasons, such as travelling a lot or just wanting to downsize. Hope that helps 😊

I know a guy, who once accidentally became a minimalist. He left a country with one pair of jeans, two shirts, and one jacket. He never came back to that country, and loved the fact that he can care all his stuff in a small backpack. Later he met a girl, who loved to collect heavy things, like books, retro cameras, and rocks. Though she liked taking minimalist photos, she couldn't imagine her life without tones of clothes. The guy was patient, but he would never ever participate in packing their luggage. They traveled a lot. Finally she got tired of packing and discovered slow fashion movement with capsule wardrobe. Now she has less than 30 items of clothing for all types of weather (NYC) including shoes, accessories, bags, and hats. And the guy and girl are nowadays a husband and wife, whose both lives are fit into two suitcases. Being that girl, I think that the real change comes from education. I would recommend your lovely girlfriend watching another great documentary "The True Cost", which isn't as beautiful and neat as your film, but very helpful to stop buying cheap low-quality garments and cluttering your closet. Wish you both lots of patience, growth, and love! Cheers!

True cost is one of those documentaries that should be played in schools to educate boys and specially girls, about the journey of their cheap clothes, that they start buying since their youth to cover their insecurities. It's positive either for their pockets and of the modern slaves that are making them, and for the environment.

True - when I first started trying to become more minimalist I went through my husband's stuff and asked him to get rid of a bunch... Lol doesn't work. Once I stuck with my own stuff and a few main room things like kitchen and bathroom the other day he started taking things out of his closet and asking me if I thought he should keep them. The point is to say don't try and force someone else to be minimalist and they might come round to it on their own when they see the changes in your own life.

@meerkatnip8926 жыл бұрын
Through minimalism I have also partly gotten into zero waste and capsule wardrobing and generally more eco-friendly living and it's so hard for me now to suddenly "see behind the curtain" of purchasing. Every time I hear what people buy and then throw away and buy and throw away and hoard and buy I can feel my toe nails roll up and I just want to change their attitudes and lifestyles NOW and just bring the huge minimalism hammer and beat it into them. I do realise it will never work that way but I just wish I could still stay calm even when I know people are mindlessly damaging the environment. It's so hard D: If someone's not a minimalist - fine. But buying cheap and buying twice or thrice just kills me.
@jocookham48106 жыл бұрын
You are treating it like a Dogma be careful of that. Its also very arrogant to think you are correct and others are wrong it says more about you than it does about them. Without the advances made recently you would not be typing on a computer you would not have a computer or a phone or running water.......list goes on. I learnt all this the hard way but listening to the minimalist podcast helped. We are all just on a journey and we don't even know what reality is so cut everyone and yourself some slack.

@@jocookham4810 Well, if everyone were consuming like the USA does, we'd need something like 4.5 earths to get all the resources, so the op does have a point. It bugs me as well to see people mindlessly consume without a care for the planet or just other people's wellbeing.

I'd guess gym too - I don't even think being minimalist means having to avoid things like a gym membership. In a way, going the gym for your workouts is more minimalist than owning a ton of equipment, even a set of dumbells and a bench takes up space and is something else to maintain and own.
@natebaird6 жыл бұрын
never miss arm day
@Zichqec6 жыл бұрын
@@TTreads Actually he's mentioned that he does go to the gym. Minimalism is about reducing the amount of excess stuff you have in your life and being mindful about the things you have, so that all your items bring value to your life and improve it, instead of just wasting space and getting in the way. A gym membership means no extra clutter in the home, all your workout stuff is at another location. If you're subscribing to lots and lots of various memberships, sure, that's something you'd probably want to cut down on if you're trying to be a minimalist because it's sort of another form of clutter. But I doubt that's the case here.

The idea of a minimalist workout is quite complex, and hard to explain, it's preatty usefull tho, also, u can achive that body by doing calisthenics (Pull Ups, push ups and they're variations) but, a minimal workout its not one with fewer equipment, or less moves, rather the focus of each move like, instead of a tricep and chest excercise a barbell bench press, and stuff like a push pull legs idea, i dont know if i made myself clear D:

Letting how you live speak for you in all situations is incredibly important. I loved this video because I am one that focuses more on what someone does rather than what they say. I don't think all people try to be dishonest or hypocritical, I think we all are both of these things at some points in our lives. It is just to what degree and how often. That's just my opinion because let's face it, no one is perfect and there are very few of us who are nearly perfect. So, I have found that watching what others "do" rather than what they "say" gives you a clearer picture of who they really are and their motivations. -- that went somewhere weird -- After spewing all that "not really related" stuff...I guess I am trying to say that, it seems pretty obvious that you two have deep, mutual respect and care for each other and I can see how it has been maybe a little easier for the two of you to get along than maybe some other minimalists and non-minimalists.

He did decluttering a lot. But we kept a huge box of things he never really looks at but he wants to keep for now and I’m okay with that he use to have 4! And he does have more clothes than I do but they are organized and look nice even if he doesn’t use them now. This was cute and a nice perspective to see. I'm in to minimalism and live with a roommate. My goal is to live in and purchase my own apartment in various cities so I don't have to deal with NYC winter. I find that I'm less anxious when I'm alone in a living space. I don't see myself living with anyone romantic or platonic long term after I'm in a different financial state.

I think the advice of "don't try to change your partner, use your shared values to work together" is probably really great advice for a lot of relationship differences. Going into a relationship hoping a person will change for you never works, but relying upon your common values, desires, and goals does. Great video, I loved it!

Definitely guilty of trying to 'clean' my spouse space and he would be upset when he's trying to find things and can't find it.. I have since stopped doing it and opted to just buy him cabinets to put things away.. It's still a clutter of mess but in a specific location so my eyes don't get sore XD

Some ideas are kinda cool. I don't think i could do it. The stuff i do in my spare time are not compatible with minimalism. I do have stuff everywhere, because i need it. I could hang screw drivers on the wall, but it is much more convenient to have them right where i need them.

I wish more people would adopt the habit of not using phone when hanging out with someone. It just makes the time spend twice as good. Also i like the video you have very good ideas. Keep up the good work. : )
