People are so ignorant nowadays. Everywhere on the internet I see people making fun of autism, but this just shows peoples failure to understand. They just generalize it, suggesting that every person with autism 'screeches' and has an unusual voice, but this is not the case at all. Autistic people are all very different as it is not a specific condition, but a whole spectrum. It needs more awareness and acceptance; the hardest part about autism, in my opinion, is everyone's lack of understanding towards it.

One big factor to remember is that not all people with autism are the same. I have autism and yet you couldn't tell just by looking at me that I have it. It would take days of you getting to know me to even notice something different. However for other people autism is as obvious from the first moment you see them. What I am trying to say is the ky's story is one of many different stories from people around the world. Like snow flakes no two kids with autism are the same. *Edit:* So this comment got a fair amount of traction it's been two years now since I wrote it I'll add a little more to it now that I've had more time to think. Autism itself is very complicated, and is something that doesn't have a concrete list of symptoms. So attempting to try and explain it by generalizing it to one list of symptoms is a pretty piss pour way to approach it. Instead understanding that autism effects people in many different ways is crucial to trying to convey it to a lay person. I reckon positive symptoms should be mentioned as well as negative ones. The more symptoms somebody knows and can recognize the easier it will be for them to actually understand somebody who they encounter who is on the spectrum.

Rads Exactly! It's the same for me. You wouldn't know from the onset of meeting me that I have autism. I've found people aren't as understanding of my needs than, say, they are towards someone that looks like they have special needs. Cause' I look like a "normal" girl. We're all on a spectrum and the more people understand that the better!

I was diagnosed with autism in 3rd grade and I have always struggled with things like being social and understanding people's facial expressions, non verbal gestures and tones of voice. I also can get overwhelmed by a lot of loud noise or a break in my routine. The up side is that I've been in several school art competitions because of my love of drawing and I've been told I'm very intelligent. This video is amazing and should have more views so people can understand what autistic people are really like and to understand them more.

I have autism and the way I'm treated by the government and my school is disgusting, people find it easier to talk to me differently then other people, and they treat me like a tally on a chart, I'm only known as a child with autism, everything I do I'm unclear whether I do it because I'm autistic or if it's what everyone else does. This disorder was the main reason I went through depression last year, so If you are reading this and you don't have autism and you think that everyone with autism just walks around dribbling and plays wow on their computers then you are part of the problem, people find it easier to generalise autism without considering the fact that everyone is different with diferent personalities. But fuck this disorder.

My son is a High Functioning Autie. He shared with me one day when he was in high school, “The students treat kids with Down Syndrome and kids in wheel chairs better than they treat me because they SEE their physical disability. No one sees MY struggle with Autism, they just think it’s my personality. They’re hurtful, rude, ignore me. If Autism had an outward appearance, people would be my friend.” That hurt me to my core, but it’s true. I couldn’t tell him he was wrong. All I could do is comfort him, and teach him how to handle people and how to be the great person I see.

I was diagnosed with Autism at a very young age and also diagnosed with Depression and Anixety, but I'm with a loving partner for almost 4 years now. I become overwhelmed very easily, especially when it comes to public places where everything is so loud I would much rather curl up in a quiet spot. Life can be difficult sometimes. But instead, I have found ways that help which include simply holding my partner's hand or having them nearby. I see them as someone I can trust and I feel safe with, because I know they love me. But I love them more! To the moon and back!! >:3 But where they're not there, I would have a fidget, or putty, even a squishie. Comforting touch and stimuli has been really helpful to me especially during anxiety attacks or becoming overwhelmed.

0:31 that statement is very true. By nature,the concept of discrimination doesn't exist in autism. We simply don't see/understand the differences or "value" in other people. So we literally give them the same treatment that we give anyone else. Whatever we were taught will depend on the treatment we give.

My school thinks I have autism because I don't talk that much and I only talk to a few people and once I cried because I was thinking about something from the past. But I don't because I don't have any problems with noise and texture and stuff like that and I do talk to people easily once I know them and I went to this mental place to get tested but they said they don't do autism assessments but they asked me questions about it anyways and they said I most likely don't have it and there's nothing noticeable about me to make them think I have autism. I used to struggle with eye contact but I practiced and now I look people in the eye. I don't even know if I'm on the spectrum or not and the school is kinda makin my confidence bad by treating me differently, in home ec class this person stood at my desk the whole time looking in at me and then her and the teacher where whispering and I heard the teacher mention "she's going to the doctors" and once I was late to school and I was gonna sign in and then the teacher was like " you don't have to sign in, I'll bring u to class." I know they're only trying to be nice but it's making me feel WIERD and now I don't want to talk even more. Ok see sorry for that rant thing

When I was younger (grade 4 and below) I bullied and teased my sister for her symtoms/habits of autism she had. It was mainly speech, because its harder fo her to talk because of autism, and I would say, "Im gonna speak in her voice 'nannahhaacaawah" I would make animal/weird noises to pretend im her. Thats not how she talked... but everyone just took it that way... Because of this, others would bother her for it... and when I look back at it now.. I absolutely regret the way I treated her.. I treated her like an animal... I always had an interets in mental health etc, so then I researched what she had and studied it.. I dont regret it at all. Ive learned the reason why she hates being in crowds and at school... so now she goes to a different school. And now I dont know whats happening to her. But I heard shes okay and not having any problems. I love her with all my heart, and I will support her and always be there for her, I love her.

@agerven6 жыл бұрын
@ZeldaGamer747: People with autism do not destroy their social life themselves. The ASD makes it just rather difficult to combine a social life with people that do not have autism. And its not how many friends you have, but that they are friends. I'm named 'friendless' by my son, and he is partially right. On the other hand I do have friends but in a different way than what is normally understood. Don't blame everything on yourself, and even if that were true, you can extend knowledge about yourself and use the autistic communitie(s) for help and support. Increased knowledge about yourself and about the differences with other people will give you opportunities to integrate and will make you aware of the boundaries ASD sets for you. Leave your shell and shine!

I am a highly functioning autistic, but not everyone is like me... There are also medium to low, there is another autistic kid in my class who can have trouble with things like, talking, interacting and so on, but he absolutely loves to dance, and he's pretty good at it too! He also like to draw, and write comics with his best friend, I commonly see autism used as an insult over the internet, and calling autistic people "retarded" it's just sad the fact they belittle the people who are suffering, and fighting strong through it, using them as ammunition, is just saddening. We are often made fun of, and being insulted for being "weird" and "not normal" It's mainly an inconvenience to me, but for others, it makes them feel upset, and like they don't matter, that they are an outcast, but they are not, if you know someone has autism, and is made fun of, go on their side, protect them, and you might just make a new best friend. The main reason autistic kids freak out in public, is sensory overload, they aren't used to the environment and they hear to many new sounds and sight and they freak out, they also find repetitive movements satisfying, like, twirling fingers mid air, or on a desk.

Man. I mean, I have autism. You couldn't tell just from looking at me, but talking? You bet. It's hard. There are some similarities between me and Ky's story. My obsession with Pokemon of all things, creating stories that I, after quite a while, found out that the people don't really want to hear, especially every day, hehe. I'm older now and have a job that forces me to interact with customers. It's difficult, leaves me exhausted from the determination I have to focus just to stand around and help out customers. But it's been helping me, I'm improving and I know that if I feel the need to I can easily say, "Just one moment, let me get someone" and get someone more qualified should I get overwhelmed. On the topic of finding someone, I've never dated anyone, because I just...can't display my feelings very well. I hold some people very close to me but making close friends is hard because I come off as "cold" or "rude" or "uncaring" even though I really do care, I just don't know how to express it to them. It has it's challenges, but with each passing day I learn just a little, and I have a family who is accepting of me, quirks and all.

I have Autism and everything they said here happened and is happening, except I seem very normal to everyone around me and am just labeled as an asshole or a idiot to my peers. Byt it can be very diffrent for someone else with autism because it affects people diffrently.
