Wonderful! You are so eloquent in sharing this perspective. I live in a bush cabin in Canada. No running water and wood heat. It is such a beautiful simple clear life and i am happy to be living it again for the past 5 years. It is so good for the soul. i plan to stay in the bush for the rest of my life. Many people have expressed concern to me because it is a hard life at times and i am getting older. For me that is the point i am completely connected to my own existance and to my relationship with the earth we live on. It makes me feel very lucky.

Finland is one of my favourite countries. So much beauty there. I have the fondest memories from years ago of being out on the rowing boat with friends when it was after midnight and it was still so light as if it was around 2pm in the afternoon. This was in the Summer of course when it's the land of the midnight sun!

@@go-healthy8132 @LEESPL this is total silence due to moon dominancy ,moon is the only one which shows significant effect on mind , when its gaining or loosing its size we are more unstable, angry , depressed etc. why cant we use this energy in good way , definitely we can convert this energy to attain mental stability and long life. this climate and surrounding are favorable to mind ,body and for longevity .if all Swedish peoples starts focusing on meditation ,yoga and daily regimen and even seasonal regimen we can establish an example of Longevity and youthfulness like Japanese' use to say they live longer rather anyone in this world. but i think we Sweden is the great and have favorable climate to attain youthfulness and its totally practical. By meditation only we can control all the disease originated by our mind/Psychological disturbance which is indirectly interconnected with moon and darkness which i am explaining in my book-Darkness, Longevity and Rejuvenation. I do remember while growing up in the northern United States how quiet everything became when the snow fell, the glistening like glitter when the sun hit the virgin snow and the sound your footsteps make as you walk upon it. It is beautiful and magical. But I also remember being sick every winter. I’ll stick to visiting the magic.

i think for me, living in the countryside is the best medicine. i am now studying far away from my province and the ambience is very different. i always find myself craving for the sound of trees and the birds and the soft rays of the sun in my province and the coldness in the early morning. nothing beats the air of nature. everything about it is just very nostalgic. and i always miss my home.

Kalle, I loved this video. So much of what you said rings true for me as a Canadian. I embrace winter with open arms! Our landscape changes in so many beautiful ways, especially when the snow starts falling. What you said about the quiet it brings,, the moonlight reflecting on the snow, the coziness.. it truly is relaxing. I love it. I think many people don’t understand how we as Canadians (and others who live in northern countries) deal with cold winter temperatures. It’s like it’s their worst nightmare? To me it’s magical, and you have explained that magic perfectly here! ❄️💖❄️

Yes, I always feel like being hugged by the dark, it can be so comforting. Here in Värmland, the contrast is not as dramatic and I actually prefer having a bit of day in winter and a bit of a night in summer, but I would certainly love to see the northern lights someday. We do see glimpses here, but nothing compared to your footage. Even though I live in the forest, similar to you, I also spend more time looking into a screen than I would like, but I make it a ritual to go out into the dark for either a short walk or at least some playtime in the garden before going to bed, and my two cats and my dog know when I'm ready to go out and always join me for a stroll. One thing I discovered this winter is blowing soap bubbles by moonlight or with a headlamp on. It is magical... 🌃

Definitely relate to the gentle lighting. I also prefer small lights in corners and such....hate big lights (How we refer to them here in Yorkshire lol) on after dark. Just totally takes away that cosy feeling. I also know what you mean about snow brightening things up. It does really make a difference. Here in the UK, we don't get much now so our short winter days feel so much darker and gloomier. When it does snow, even in the countryside, it is so light.

You captured my thoughts perfectly on polar winters. I always hype Lapland to people from Central Europe or America, and since they have never experienced it, they don't fully understand it, so it's hard to explain. You, however, explain it perfectly. Polar nights + snow = heaven.

Hi Kalle, I had a feeling you would say "the darkness surround me like a blanket." I think I heard Cecilia say it in one of her videos. I'm a sun lover myself, so I can't imagine living in place with that much dark ness. But I have a lot of appreciation for people who do enjoy it. It's like a different world, a different perspective, change of lens. enjoy the darkness but please be safe!!! Be careful for bears and wild animals and such.

Talked with a friend of mine (67) about the light days and the dark days and he still has the feeling that it's still night or already late because of the lack of light and in the summer the opposite.

Interesting! I live in Minnesota USA and our winter is long and at times very cold. We don’t have a full day of darkness but right now our daylight is short to me. Around Sunrise 7:30AM Sunset 4:30-5 PM In the Summer it stays light about 14 or more hours. Our winter lasts about five months. Southern states have shorter winters and longer daylight. Darkness and cold are not my favorite but my family surrounds me so that is where my heart is. This looks so beautiful and magical! Thank you for sharing. It makes me sad how we can't even see the night sky anymore in most places. I haven't been to Sweden yet but I totally understand what you said about the silence and the nature sounds. One of the things I miss most about living in a rural area is the deep silence. The constant static noise in the city is something I just can't get used to, I find it exhausting. I hope to be living in such a beautiful place too some day. Wishing you and Christine all the best for 2023!

Darkness in the forest, silence, the scent of nature... I really started to appreciate and understand all of this when I moved to the mountains. The full moon in the woods is magic... Unfortunately here in Italy at 1000 meters above sea level the snow is hardly seen anymore... (Sorry for my bad English).

I do the very same thing with my lighting. It too brings me a feeling of peace and contentment.

Love love LOVE this video! Love your descriptions and accompanying footage, such as full moon brightness. Love that you appreciate darkness. Love that you love “silence”, which is’t silent at all… and so much more. This is one of my favourites of your videos. Thank you! ❤️(🇨🇦). PS I think you would like the book called Wintering by Katherine May… on Audible 😉

I treasure your sharing these experiences. I love winters, and I have always found the darkness of winter nights to be oddly safe, and most comforting. I envy your seeing the Northern lights, but am grateful to see the images you include. Though I’m “old” (73), I learn from you in every video . . . Still learning how to simplify, appreciate, and be more at peace with myself (and my doggies). Thank you!!
