JJ I love that you have done your research on the breed. Thank you so much for rescuing him as you quickly discovered any time they are caught up in the system the first reaction is to eliminate them. I completely understand their fears but they need to do better by the dogs, all large protective breeds are at risk. We have had Filas for about 30 yrs, currently we have 5. We have had as many as 15 at one time, 9 of them were rescues, some would be permanent due to bite histories some were being evaluated for further training, vetting and placement. Unfortunately The people involved in the breed these days are not well organized so there is no US breed club or formal rescue. I have been involved in 2 breed clubs FBCA, I’m a past VP and FBA is was on the board, I also sat on the board of FRI, Fila Rescue Inc and have always been involved in rescuing Fila and other larger protective breeds. I’d love to help you in any way I could, maybe helping you understand some of the things Bob does. Anyway, if you are interested and I can help in anyway please feel free to reach out. Again Thank You so much for for saving that beautiful boy. Hugs Dawn

Definitely a Fila, surprising that he was wandering the streets here in the United States! He even has the camel's pace. The only breed of dog that is instinctively protective, and it's because of their love for whoever they grew up with. After 6 months to a year the circle closes, and a true Fila will only accept who he was with for those first six to 12 months, after that he will not accept any strangers. On the other hand I've had two of my Fila's get loose and roam the neighborhood, they wouldn't bother anyone, even other dogs. Why? Because there's no threat, nothing to protect. So they're not going to go out and create Havoc if some knucklehead that maybe working at your house leaves your gate open, like in my case. They are in no way mean dog's, their aggressive behavior is only when someone messes with their human, property, etc. When I would bring mine to the vet the doctor would have to be in the room first before the dog, if the Fila goes in first, it's his room with you there. He won't be to happy when the doc tries to come in. There's so much more I can tell you about this breed but never enough time😢 It's always heartbreaking when you your baby, but when you loose your Fila it will rip your heart out! I'm even having a bit of a hard time writing this, and my last died in his sleep around 3 years ago. If this doesn't work out for the girl in the video, I'll come take him I'm sorry, I should have watched the video in it's entirety before I commented. If anyone tries to train the protectivnes out of that dog/breed, you will destroy that animal, it's his natural Instinct! Don't listen to trainers that say they know the breed because they looked it up on Google! One more thing. The girl in the video is correct when she says there's a concern when her children has friends over. The Fila might be OK because he sorta knows the friends. But if those little ones are play fighting, wrestling whatever, and your child is let's say at the bottom of a pile etc. Remember, your Fila loves that little one and may take that as a threat. Something else that was said. There has never been a case where a Fila turned on his/her owner. Unless it's never been reported, and I've been around them for around 30 years. As far as putting him on a farm, etc. A Fila will be anything you want him to be. He's just as happy sitting on the couch with you, riding in the car etc. etc. etc. Don't over think it. As long as he's with you he's perfectly fine.
@leonidasjunior46363 ай бұрын
I'm brazillian, and I know some breeders... Filas really don't turn on people they consider part of their pack, or their owners... but there are a lot of negleting owners out there, that don't get a link with their dogs. If you just keep them stuck in the backyard, taking food and water, but never really properly caring, well, good luck... they may take you for a stranger, and you know what they do to strangers. It happenned many times here in Brazil, even with professinal breeders. But yeah, all else you said tracks, and they are really wonderful dogs :)
@eeezzztolv3 ай бұрын
@@leonidasjunior4636 you're right, I don't think any dog belongs out in the backyard day and night of their lives especially the Fila! They just want to be with you no matter what. @Ireneo-gs4mq2 ай бұрын
Its true that the dog will never turn against you, the exception is if you inflict physical punishment, the Fila doesn't tolerate the slightest physical punishment. I have a Fila, since puppyhood I took her to only one vet (so that she considers that vet member of the pack), it was all good for months until unintentionally on one occasion the vet caused her physical pain (he warned me it could happen), since then I can only take her with a muzzle to the vet...

It feels like JJ is trying to find ways to help her dog express it's true nature, and I'm convinced this is the best way to make the most of a working breed with strong instincts. If you're reading JJ, your idea of developing your dog's nose work is an excellent one! It will help stimulate the mind and give your dog a job that taps into their true DNA, all the while tiring him mentally. Keep it up 🎉

I know a family who drove several states to adopt a giant bloodhound. Unfortunately the "bloodhound" was incorrectly IDd by the shelter. It was a Fila (they all have bloodhound in the DNA) and when the husband was at work, the dog took the wife's face off. She needed months of inpatient hospital care. The dog was euthanized. Just for balance, I also know several stories in which Filas have saved their owners' lives or protected their families. One was able to fight off 3 pit bulls. Best of luck to you and Bob! He has won the lottery with your family! ...I probably wouldn't be offering cart rides to neighborhood kids 🤷🏼♀️

I owned a Caucasian Shepherd, my experience with a dog like that led me to believe certain breeds are almost genetically inclined not to respond well to things like adoption. We adopted a RottXFila from a rescue that thought he was RottXDane. They had a hard time placing him because they did not know his breed traits. We'd had him a few a days when I realized from his gait that he was part Fila. He was a wonderful dog for us, but violently intolerant of any other person. We had a hard time getting him a muzzle because his head was so big, and walked him in it all the time. Despite the muzzle, lots of folks wanted to pet him, which of course was a big HELL NO. He died of a cancer, a common problem. He was loved and even now 6 years later, he is missed. The feeling of safety with him in the house is hard to explain. He was also submissive to our Tervuren. It was kind of funny - he was twice her size, but she was in charge. BTW, it seems that the Bloodhound is part of the making of the Fila.
