In this month’s meetup, the panelists-including some special guest panelists-remember Tom Palizzi, a dear friend and tremendous Parkinson’s advocate, who passed away a few weeks ago. In honor of Tom, who was a man of action, the group discusses how you can remain productive and effective in the world while navigating the challenges of Parkinson’s.

What a bummer about Tom Palizzi passing away. Never met the guy, but I saw him couple days ago on KZbin doing some kind of a bike ride.

Thanks for your message. Tom was always up to some ride or other! He was particularly instrumental in our Tour de Victory, which is May 18th, 2024: davisphinneyfoundation.org/event/tour-de-victory/

I have only known Tom through the Monthly Meet Up sessions, and took advantage of the many pearls of wisdom he shared. What a gentle, kind and insightful man he was. I will miss his presence at these meetings, and my condolences to all of you who had the pleasure of knowing him personally.

I would suggest using dictation on your phone for text messages as well as emails. Not perfect but over time, at least on an iPhone, it gets better.

Good suggestion. Many people with Parkinson's do use voice-to-text. There's also ongoing work focusing on improving these resources for people with Parkinson's: davisphinneyfoundation.org/recruiting-speech-accessibility-project/

Thanks for your messages. We don't local knowledge of providers and resources for Parkinson's care in the Philippines, but here are some ideas to consider: 1.) The International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society has a couple of providers in the Philippines who are listed as members. You might reach out to them: mds.movementdisorders.org/directory/index.php?Search=Search&Region=AOS&mode=map&Country=Philippines#directoryresultstop 2.) A 2022 study about Parkinson's in the Philippines lists multiple authors in the Philippines. You can click on their names and see the medical centers with which they are associated and reach out to them there. www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2590112522000408?via%3Dihub 3.) St. Luke's appears to have a movement disorders clinic. You could reach out to them to see if they have any recommendations for help: www.stlukes.com.ph/health-specialties-and-services/institutes-departments-centers-and-services/movement-disorders-servicewww.stlukes.com.ph/health-specialties-and-services/institutes-departments-centers-and-services/movement-disorders-service

A speech language pathologist, occupational therapist, or neuropsychiatrist might be able to help with these issues. You could try the parkinsonvoiceproject.org/ to see if a speech language pathologist's expertise might be of benefit to you. They have regular free classes/workshops.
