Coming in late to the party, but I just bought a used 4 cyl Kia stinger premium. Since I’m single and in my 20s, the first thing I did was put my foot to the floor on a left turn and even with traction control on, the rear end swung out into a power slide. For the price, I could not be happier with my performance sunroof.

@1234567895543326 жыл бұрын
they have been turning things around since 2011... it's pretty fucking clear at this point how they are holding up. They went from being a fucking terrible brand, to being one of the best, if not the best in the world. The Forte is a fun compact, that more than goes up against it's competition. The optima is the single best Mid sized sedan in it's class with zero competition. Sorento is good, and while I hate the way the soul looks it's insanely popular, I see more souls than I do F-150's at this point. The stinger is an amazing car that shut every brand snop up, and shows that while it has a KIA badge, it's in reality a mix of a BMW/Audi, except that unlike those 2, it won't break down 1 week after you drive it off the lot.@InnerGuide

I have gone for the V6. Pick up in about two weeks. The GT2, gone for the polar white. Blue looks good though. Trading in my Alfa Giulia - most people will think that I am insane when park up at work as the Giulia always got a lot of comments. Good to try new things. The Giulia was a gamble and has been a great car, just find uncomfortable on long drives and have to keep adjusting the seat as my back hurts. Never had that with a vehicle before and a shame as have really enjoyed driving it. Did not enjoy the speeding ticket when first got it - but there are surely not many people when buy a fast vehicle don’t want to open it up now and again - or maybe more often than should on the open road!

If you are looking at buying a Kia you are a value shopper and have done your homework. I currently drive a Cpo Audi S4 and look forward to seeing what the Stinger will cost off lease with extended warranty. I chose the premium V4!!! Not an issue with the difference in cost between the base V6 and the premium!!! I took both out and I shocked the salesman with how I pushed the V4 - he said no one had even tried to push it. I realized the sun roof and the kick ass sound system with how powerful the V4 ACTUALLY is made for a better experience for me. I LOVE THIS CAR SO MUCH. I can out drive just about any car on the highway and it's smooth as silk. My only problem is I have to keep it in check so I won't get a ticket!! Let's face it, most people won't be racing around a track or have the opportunity to push the V6 to its limit anyway. Put it in custom with sport setting for the steering and comfort for everything else and the car drives even better. It's very annoying how this version of the car is ignored to the point of people not even mentioning it exists. No car salesman even showed us that it was a hatchback!! I can't get over how much fits into the back of the car. It makes you think there can't possibly be a back seat with that much space!! Would I have gotten the V6 fully loaded with the sunroof and sound system if money was not an issue - yes but I wouldn't have needed it and the money can go elsewhere!! I recommend this car to ANYONE and THANK YOU for recognizing how superior this car is to other cars that are for regular people.

Longhillmom I too would choose a fully loaded 4 banger over a base GT. I like to drive my cars hard because to me that’s when driving is fun! Anything with over 300hp is boring to drive because it’s so rare you can actually push the car. I have to admit though, you do feel kinda badass when driving a car with lots of power so I get why they’re desirable. But I’d rather a car that is fun.

I just made this decision for myself. I live in Chicago and since my daily driving is from one stoplight to the next, I opted for a Premium AWD in Micro Blue and with Drive Wise. As much as I would've loved the GT2, I couldn't justify the extra expense for something I really wouldn't utilize but once in a blue moon. I love the car and think I made the right choice for myself. This is my 4th Kia--Soul Shadow Dragon Edition, Optima EX, Optima EX Hybrid, and have had close to no issues with any of them. I did want something a little more fun to drive this time and this fit the bill! Granted the last one was a hybrid, so pretty much anything else would have been more exciting! Love the car and highly recommend it!

Tough call, but I'd get the loaded 4cyl and have a blast 'after marketing' it up as it already has plenty of power for a GT cruiser type car. In reality, most people are not going to drive it like they stole it on a day to day basis, which to me makes the 4cyl more than adequate with the perks of better mpg and less weight. As for the suspension and minor interior details, that's all fixable. There is a very real value in the fun of getting aftermarket stuff for your car and customizing it to your liking. Not everyone wants a cookie cutter configuration and have to pay for what they don't even want, therfore, I think the Stinger offers a lot even in its stock form, which also makes it good for people who wouldn't be getting aftermarket stuff for their car. The Stinger is serious business and a legit contender. Great job Hyundai/Kia... + That 10 year warranty on a car like this? Even a fool would be haunted of the reality of how awesome that is if he looked the other way due to brand snob syndrome.

@I want To die, there does exist some of us like that. :P Imagine boosting the 4cyl turbo though. With the power increase on the 4cyl from some after market treatment, in ratio is still more favorable due to it being a lot lighter. (power to weight ratio.) Can't go wrong either way imo. However, at that borderline price point, since it'd be a daily driver, I'd opt for the loaded 4cyl turbo. Now if I was planning to camp at the track, I'd pick the stripped down v6 turbo and gut it even more.

I recently bought the 4cyl Stinger Premium w/Driver Assist which is right at $40k MSRP (the lease cash buyout deals right now are awesome, and who pays MSRP anyway?). I wanted the car & all the tech (Kia's lane centering & radar cruise is actually pretty darn good in comparison to other 2017/2018 cars), but I didn't care about the horsepower since A) the 4cyl has plenty of power anyway and B) it's just a commuter and highway cruising car for me. Saved at least $6k versus a similar TTV6 car (GT1+Driver Assist), have lower on-going fuel costs (probably $2500 saved over 100k miles), and get the benefits of 18" vs. 19" wheels (cheaper tires, less chance of wheel damage, less NVH). I also think the long-term repairs (past the 60k and 100k mile warranties) and the maintenance costs will be lower on the 4cyl cars since they don't have the active dampers, twin turbos, and won't be putting as much of a beating on the 8sp transmission. I do have a family, and I was checking out various hatchbacks and wagons before I found the Stinger. The hatchback + folding rear seat design was an absolute must have for me, and I was really glad to be able to get what I wanted in such a cool and reasonably priced car.

Yeah, and auto start/stop is one of the worst ideas ever developed and marketed. Start/stop cycles are the number one point of wear on an engine. Puts more strain on batteries, starters, and accelerates the death of the engines. It's all well and good while the car is brand new, and the re-starting is reliable. Let's see what it's like on its 2nd or 3rd owner, when start-ups may not be so quick or reliable, and all those extra start/stop cycles have taken their toll on the engine internals. Nope, I don't ever want auto stop/start in my car. I've had it on rentals, and that was more than enough.

My co-worker bought one new a year ago, and he loves it. Took it on 3 trips from Michigan to South Carolina. I drove it and I am thinking of getting one myself. He put 28k on his Stinger, no issues so far. He averages 25.8mpg! He drives 50miles round trip to work, 5 times a week... in heavy city traffic. Driving it on michigan roads... it handles them very well!

Just bought the 4 cyl Stinger, with the sunroof. Had a GT1 2019 to compare it with and it was surprisingly not that much difference to me, plus the way these hog gas, the 4cyl I'm still only getting 21MPH, I hear the 6's are averaging 19, so I think it's just a better package. Mine's AWD, as I live in the snowy northeast.

Wouldn't the Buick Regal compete with a base Stinger? As for which car to choose, I'd take a well equipped 4 cylinder vs the GT. I'm a realist: In SoCal traffic, I need amenities inside the car to pass the time. And 365hp won't get me from Beverly Hills to Burbank any faster then the 2 ltr.

Drove the base 3.3TT AWD and a premium 4 cylinder AWD back to back in town and on the highway today. I truly thought the V6 would blow me away but other than the power, it really didn't. If anything, the V6 felt heavy and the ride wasn't as smooth as the premiums (19inch wheels played a part, i'm sure). The 4 just felt more nimble and tossable. For the price, you get sooooo much more with the premium. That's where i'd put my money.
@dcengland6 жыл бұрын
You make a pretty good argument for this car. I was in the mindset that one should only buy the V6 and the I4 was a throw away option. But I just went and configured a fully loaded Optima for over $37k and yes I would much rather have the Stinger for $38k. You have opened my eyes to possibilities

As an owner of a gt2 awd I would have to say pony up but I had also test drove the 4 cylinder a year prior and I honestly felt the how much lighter it really was. It was smoother on the road and was far more eager on its turning dynamics some of the best steering I had ever felt, yes better than the gt2. Unless you are someone like me who thrives on the speed and acceleration you will probably be happy with the 4 cylinder.

I would go with the loaded up 4 banger over the base V6 because I live in Los Angeles and will need to enjoy the fancy stuff while sitting in traffic with my family.
@traveltx6 жыл бұрын
I got the base GT in that exact blue. It did come with the 2k nanny pack, and the 2.2k AWD which gives you a lot of car for 43k out the door. Honestly, I got those because that car was sitting right in front of me, and I didn't want to wait. I think the BIG takeaway here is that you get value at every trim level and price point. Maybe a little less at the 54k GT2, but as you found out, there are plenty of people talking themselves into it.
@LordBass6 жыл бұрын
You sold me on the value of the base car. $32k base is compelling - I see a new one at a distant dealer for $28k. I'm likely to cross shop the Accord 2.0L 6MT at this price, though expect the Kia is be more fun to drive. Drooling over big German five doors for my next car, and the Stinger fits in that class. New England rust here, DINK. Snows like it's free, I'd go with the 2WD anyway on principle.

Exactly what I'm cross shopping! Did you choose?!
@echtogammut6 жыл бұрын
I've been on the Stinger forums and there are some serious discounts to be had on these. I've been cross shopping this with the A5 Sportback and 430GC, because I want something I can haul a bike in the back and mount kayaks to the roof, while still being a bit fun to drive. My biggest issue is the dealership/sales people themselves, which come across like those "no credit-no problem" used car dealerships. That said, I didn't really look at the 4cyl, so now I'm torn because if it's good at $38k... still the red interior is a must have, so I will stick with the GT1 package.

MKTech so you are made at the dealership for treating you like you are buying a cheap car because you are buying a cheap car? This isn't Audi or BMW
@echtogammut6 жыл бұрын
The majority of the Stingers on the lot were GT2, with a sticker price of $50k... so not exactly cheap. Plus, why should they treat anyone like that because they are buying a "cheap" car? My nearest BMW dealership had the audacity to inflate MSRP prices on their window stickers, I guess thinking no one has Internet access, so isn't like BMW are saints, they are just nicer about it.
@jbm08666 жыл бұрын
Blake Swan These things may not have the same lofty pricetag as their German counterparts, but they are no longer cheap. And for that matter, Hyundai/Kia hired away some of the best minds Audi, BMW (and GM as well, Corvette chassis engineer) have to offer, and staffed a fairly new design studio in Germany with...wait for it...German engineers and designers from other parts of Europe. The days of Korean cars being made for the domestic market and then sold elsewhere as cheaper versions of loaded Japanese cars are over. I'd say Hyundai/Kia has nearly drawn even with some of the Japanese stalwarts, and now has the European brands sweating as well. Now that they own their own steel mill, they will always be able to offer more for less money than the competition, and pretty soon they will get to the level there are zero compromises. Keep in mind many people scoffed at the Japanese makers daring to try to compete with Mercedes, Audi, BMW and even the American luxury brands, then Acura, Lexus and Infiniti happened...nobody is doubting any longer.

Motoman complained about the fixed-in-place navigation and Apple CarPlay display screen, saying that KIA should either relocate it or make it retract. FYI: If that screen doubles as a video display screen for the [mandatory] rear mounted backup camera, then *by law* (as of 2018) that screen must be non-retracting and visible at all times. I learned of this rule during my attendance at NAIAS 2018.

I bought a new Inifiniti Q60 with the turbo 4 last year. What a hot car! I test drove the v6 and found it had way too much torque for the car and it just couldn't put it all to work without losing traction. I am SO glad I went with the turbo 4. I don't play boy racer. Like most people who aren't unhinged with this kind of money I prefer something I can live with everyday that isn't going to beat me up. Now I am in the market for a replacement car for another older sedan and this one looks like it for me. I don't have the need to impress others with how much I can borrow or how much I can owe. I'm just looking for the best bang for the buck. I'm old enough to remember when everyone thought they HAD to have a v8. Then the manufacturers started making and marketing decent v6's with lots of torque. Now you have a few dinosaurs around with v8's in them and they are mostly my grandfather's type of car. The turbo torque at low end with the 4 cylinder combined with the outstanding 5 year 60,000 mile warranty that is standard on all Kia's has me convinced. You mentioned the significant weight reduction with the turbo 4 and 2wd and that brings the weight ratio to a nearly perfect 50/50 ratio. Who else does that? Tell me 1 Porsche product that offers that kind of perfect weight ratio. By the way does anyone know what kind of engines the formula 1 race cars have been using forever at the Indianapolis 500? Turbo 4's of course. Best bang for the buck!

Everyone raves about Audi A4, A5 and A6 with the same type HP and torque specs - why not the Stinger? I would definitely strongly consider the loaded 4 cyl turbo of this vehicle. I originally looked hard at the A5 Sportback with the lift-back design being practical for the rare times I may need to haul something home from a Costco shopping trip but the price quickly gets to loaded Stinger GT levels and beyond. However, without looking hard at the specs on the base GT vs loaded 4 cylinder, the mid-life crisis me cries "more power" I would not go AWD on this car - just more to maintain and break I live in Florida, have no kids but have 3 mini-Schnauzers (which are as stubborn as kids and can't clean up after themselves) - I lived in the Mid-Atlantic for many years and brought my 4WD Nissan Titan down to Florida with me - I've had that thing for 13 years now and even living in an area that got its fair share of snow and Nor'Easter blizzards, I can count on two hands the number of times I actually felt the need to put it into 4WD (and most of them involved driving over muddy grass areas).

I got the GT2 fully loaded awd, but only because it was right as the cars were hitting the lots, and they were offering $7,800 off the msrp. Factor in another $2,500 I negotiated off that, and it was well worth it. I also didn’t care for the sound of the 4 cylinder, that gear selector carried over from the optima, that dull black trim, and a handful of other creature comforts lacking from the base model that were offered only to the GT2. Outside of the 2013 X5 50i I used to have, this feels like the best car purchase I’ve ever made. Never thought I’d say that about a Kia.

The Stinger is an interesting option. I could make the case for the Honda Accord with the 2.0L power plant, especially because of the available third pedal. BUT that hatch is a game changer. If Honda was still offering the Contour, then I'd probably could make the case for sticking with their product. Yet, the Stinger's hatch and available AWD with the 4 cylinder is compelling -- especially if you want to stay out of the cute ute market. Agreed that the Camry is a contender, but no hatch, no AWD and the six cylinder puts a buyer into the mid $30k range. If Subaru were to offer a Legacy sedan with the new Ascent power plant, that might be worth a look. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with the 4 cylinder Stinger. Cheers!

In Australia, for decades 2 cars dominated car sales -the Ford Falcon and Holden Commodore. They were RWD family cars offered mainly in 6 cylinder and 8 cylinder variants. A few years ago, production of both were ended. I had 2 Falcons - a 1983 and a 1998. For the price, you got a lot of car for the money. I went for the NA 6 cylinder both times. The Stinger with the turbo 4 and turbo 6 appeal to those same buyers of the Ford and Holden. For that reason, the turbo 4 cylinder with the power of those NA 6 cyl cars is going to be my choice. Those who bought the V8 (or turbo 4 litre 6 offered in the Ford) would naturally go for the turbo 6 GT Stinger. My last car had 166kw/ 364Nm or 220HP and 270 ft-lb with a 5 speed manual. It was the Tickford tweaked model with a few mild sporting tweaks and I felt that was a little more power than I wanted for a daily. My current car is a Mazda 3 SP23 (2.3 litre, but not turbo, that was the MPS). Being lighter and being a 6 speed it is not much slower than my previous car. I do miss that big slab of torque, but not the fuel bill! In the 80's and 90's cars like Mazda 323 or Toyota Corolla etc were small. I dismissed these cars as ownership options for me. In the early 2000's they got taller roofs and a bit more space, to the point where guys like me who wanted a bigger car could downsize comfortably. Leg room was lacking a little for longer trips, a 3 hour drive had my right leg going a bit funny and I almost traded it for a Mazda 6 2nd gen at one point, but the lack of used cars for sale in the variant I wanted put an end to that. So my next car will be bigger than the Mazda 3 and the Kia Stinger fits the bill. They're aimed a little more upmarket than the old Ford and Holden, because they're aiming for the Germans, the next gen Mazda 6 also appeals, but I buy used to maximise value and the Mazda won't be in my price range for a few years. A lot of the reviewers tell people to forget the 4 go for the V6 Stinger, which is fair if money and running costs are no issue. It is a bit like saying buy a Ford Mustang GT over an Ecoboost. The 4 cyl Stinger can do 0-60MPH in a little over 6 seconds - that isn't slow for a larger sedan. My older Ford did it in about 7.5 seconds and I was happy with that.

I test drove the Stinger 4 love the look of the Stinger & the ride. I'm tempted to trade-up my 16' Optimal SXL but I'm disappointed that the Turbo 4 cyl model doesn't have a body trim level closer to the GT2. The Optima had 5 trim levels with the top trim ...SXL ...being much more attractive than the other levels (at least the first 3 levels) IMHO ...and I actually think my SXL 2.0T looks sharper & more attractive than the base model Stinger! The Stinger 4 trim is kinda bland compared to the GT2. Maybe I'm expecting to much but I hope KIA realizes the potential appeal of the 4 cyl Stinger ...with the better gas mileage & more-than-adequate horse-power to the average buyer ... if they would offer a jazz-d up exterior for the "Premium" 4 ...and make it a bit closer in looks to the GT models!

With the 2.0T it can get a moderate E85 tune and exhaust and be running right with the V6 TT. I got a CONSERVATIVE E85 tune, downpipe and CAI for my stock 250hp/260tq Buick Verano 2.0T and now it's trapping 110+mph in the quarter which would bitch slap a GT, M2 and a pre 2018 RS3 for a measly $1100. Been running this config for just over two years now with zero problems in fact it runs much better and smoother than stock. Don't underestimate the power of a 2.0T. With little money you could extract a ton of power from it with even better reliability at least with my car you can. You should with this one as well.
