Jonna is for sure one of the best out there on KZbin. We here in Sweden are very proud of her . Mulitalented lady who creates jewlery..music..paintings...film..photos.. As a flyfishing man i am in the summertime up in the very north of Sweden catching trout..grayling and arctic char. It's like my second home. Up there you can hear the mountins speak to you and the streams wisper secrets for you. It is really magic and wonderful up there. But It can also be the opposite when the storms hit you like a brick. After 40 years in the north of Sweden in summertime i'm still longing to the never ending light up there. This reaction was great. Thank you guys.❤❤

Hello, swede 🇸🇪 here living just above the polar circle. Aurora Borealis during winter are something extraordinary. Even though I live here and have experienced it hundreds of times it still baffles me, and it also reminds everyone watching how small and pitiful we actually are. About the ice bath, its not that awful as it looks. When its -20⁰C its actually cozy to take a bath in +3 water, the real pain comes when you get up 😅 Welcome to Sweden as tourists, but if you have plans to visit the north part of Scandinavia by car I strongly suggest you do that during summer when roads are open and its light 24/7. The winter here can be harsh. Another reaction channel for places are a great idea.

I live a little below the Arctic circle and could never move to live somewhere else, I have tried to live down south but the winter is much more challenging due to the moist air and wind factor (there is also to many people around...😄). Up here the air is dry and it doesn´t feel so cold, just wear the right clothing. Now I don´t work, just for myself at home and that make wintertime easier in a way. When I was younger, had kids at home, go to work and having to start the morning by showeling snow was not fun. But the winter is beautiful, as Jonna says; the stars, the Northern light, snow on the pines. If healthy go skiing into the forest, making a fire and taking a "Swedish fika" outside, that´s very nice. For me personally I have yearly schedule; I like to cultivate so I start seedlings in jan and every month until summer, that gives me a purpose and something to do. In summer we live outside as much as possibly, hiking in the forest, making dinner outside, swimming and fishing in the river, foraging for early mushrooms, cloudberries, blueberries, raspberris and herbs and often hiking in the mountains not so far away from our village. In autumn harvest time has arrived, taking care of the veggies and picking late mushrooms + lingonberries. Lightning candles in the evening, reading a lot of books and watch movies (and KZbin), eating and drinking nice food. Then it is time for X-mas, tidying up the house, decorate, making candy and X-mas food, celebrate New Year and then it is suddenly Januari and time to start seedling again! One have to find the rythm of the seasons and create your own schedule; do the things you have to do but also relax a bit more but also keep your mind up by doing fun things, concentrate on a hobby, learn something new.

As a person born in Poland but living in Sweden (reasonably southern part that isn't as extreme as her part), it took me YEARS to get used to summer nights. Now I love it and can sleep just fine when it's bright light. Winters however.... I suffer. Waking up and go to work, when it feels like in the middle of the night, is incredibly difficult. And the same thing with the afternoons, when it feels again as middle of the night. Still, each season is beautiful.

Their roads get cleared in winter. And there is a village close by with a grocery store. (I only know this from her videos, that is). I don't think they get significantly snowed in since they are used to it, so the municipalities have the equipment they need. As for the ice baths, she also has a sauna by the lake. Even where I live in basically southern Sweden, during the summer we don't get real midnight, only what's it called, civil twilight. Basically, it's not full sunlight, but it's not dark either. And during winter of course we only get like 4-6 hours of sunlight (if the sky is clear). By coordinates, it's 59N 16E. And northern Sweden is still some towns at 69N, like going down to Slovakia if you go south. 100% visit The Nordics during both mid winter and mid summer. Both are beautiful in their own way. Especially if you like nature and hiking, or for example going to visit Santa in Finnish Lapland.

How cold? It can become -30 C, but usually it doesn't become below -20 C, and that's for the northern part of Sweden, in the south it rarely gets below 0 C But that's OK it's when the wind kicks in that's when it gets nasty. Snowstorm that makes you see no longer than two meters and-30 C, that's not pleasant, I kind of enjoy it though. When she filmed this, AFAIK she lived in the more or less center of Sweden, it's concidered the north, but you know, there is a lot of land north of that. Sweden is located north to south about the same as Alaska

You wondered how the body adapts to the extreme fluctuation of light. Most suffer to some degree of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). Many have a hard time sleeping in the summer but still have energy, and feeling tired and depressed in the winter due to darkness and social isolation. The social life hibernates in the winter because many just lack the energy to keep it up, but when it wakes up in the spring it is the more energetic. Others are like me; totally uneffected by the sun when it comes to the circadian rhythm. My mood also get gloomy in the winter but I do not get as tired. I have no problem at all sleeping with the sun directly in my face. My body clock do not adapt to the light conditions at all. It is a genetic Circadian Rhythm Disorder (called Non24, the because our cycle runs on 25 hiurs not 24, which pushes everything one hour a day) that runs in the family. My family have lived in an area not far from where Jonna lives for at least 500 years (that is how far back the documentation goes), and if the pattern extends backwards then it has lived there for thousands of years. I am not sure but I have a hunch that our circadian condition is an adaptation to the extreme light conditions. I can see huge evolutionary benefits with it (even though it is hinderance in the modern days of clocks). I also know several people from Finland and north of Norway who have the same condition. One thing that is a huge difference between the south and in the north is the snow. The snow in the north reflect the little light there is. In the south it is much darker even though it is during a shorter period. I very much prefer the snow even though the dark period is longer and the temperature is colder.

If you go to Sweden in the winter time you'll just be sitting indoors and you can do that anywhere. Unless you're a hardcore winter sports person people only go out to shovel the snow to clear their driveways. Those temperatures are persistent temperatures, not the high or low. When it gets cold in Sweden it stays cold. And people living there have a big problem with depression because of the months-long Darkness. The swedes have adapted to combat seasonal depression by having frequent social Gatherings and keeping physically fit.
