I got duke 390 recently. 3000 kms on it now. I am 56 kgs and 5.6". It doesn't take me to get to 130 kmph at all. It is faster than 80 percent of the cars, so getting to highway speed is not a problem. Problem is going on straight highways where wind gets you a lot. This bike shakes as single cylinder bikes do. I felt tired after 300kms ride.

I really appreciate that the display reads battery voltage. The transmission is amazing, it's quick and smooth with great feedback. Made me feel like a pro after only half an hour of riding. I have a 2018 model and my only gripe so far is how frequently the fans turn on to cool the engine. To be fair though I've only been riding in hot weather, so we'll see. It's not a bother while riding, just at a stop. The engine vibration doesn't bother me, I like it as a characteristic of the bike itself and it's very minimal. I have a feeling dirt biking is in my future... Otherwise, I love this bike! And the seat is very comfortable for me, I went two hours on my first ride without issue. The riding position is excellent, and the mirrors though hideous, provide superb visibility. For reference, I'm 5'11, 150lbs

Completely agree on the freeway topic. My Z400 has plenty enough power to zip around as needed and do the California flow of traffic which typically runs 75-85 pending on where you ride. Rarely does ANYONE in California drive the posted speed limit. Unless your either an elderly person, driving with a load of stuff in the car that obstructs your rear view and tourists. Even semi’s are driving too fast in the slow lane at times. But that’s besides the point. The Duke 390 and my Z400 are perfectly fine getting up to speed and getting around. Mind you that I’m in the light weight side of riders (buck fifty range). So body weight and size will vary your riding experience.

Has enough power for highway but it's not meant for maintaining 75+mph despite the 110mph limiter. Great fun in the twisties and parking lot maneuvers. I also ride an '07 R6 and I appreciate the Duke more quite honestly. Sit on one and compare to the ninja and decide which one fits your body more because of the seat height (31-32[.5?] in) and your leg length (tanks can be cramping on knees due to shape) Edit: I highly suggest a '17 on model. They're more reliable and come with a slipper clutch standard, TFT display, and LED lights all the way around (I believe the headlights as well)

Good video, Thanks. As someone thinking of selling my Vespa 250ie because new job requires me to ride half way on the freeway, I can't believe that in Australia, if anyone wants to buy a new Duke you can only buy the Duke 200 for $5k AUD ride away, the 390 for $7.5k ride away, then the next one above that is the Duke 890 (which pricing available for the 2020 model is) at $18.5k AUD ride away. That is a huge jump! Come on KTM... you could at least given us the 690 here, but for me it would not be as nimble. As a person who really likes Duke 390 for its small and nimble nature, I love this machine as it will be easy to commute around tight city streets, slip through traffic, and ride it on the freeway to work everyday (for a 5.7' person and 75kg). I really wish KTM had offered a 490 also. That extra 100cc little bit more would have been perfection.

This review was so weird… Anyone wondering, the Duke 390 is the best entry level bike in HISTORY. The Superduke 1290R is the best street bike in HISTORY. The end.

In my country duke 390 is consider beast and its cost around 9k USD in a country where minimum wage is 150-200USD , it's a dream for kids like me to own one of these

Thank you for coming right out and saying your height and weight. A lot of manufacturers' press photos show models on bikes and you have no idea what your actual riding position would be.

I’m 6’1” 260. At 53 years old, I’ve spent a lifetime chasing the “biggest bang for my buck”...GS1100, vf1000R, fjr1300 are some of my peak moments...My daily for the last few years has been a C-50 Boulevard and it has taught me that Enough is Plenty. I’m wanting to go smaller and ride the backroads and turn off on the dirt roads, and maybe even get a little OFF road. At my weight, I’m not sure a 400 will lug my big ass around well though so I’m still shopping the 650-800 sort of range. Am I wrong?

I think you don't give the small Dukes (125/200/390) enough credit. They're unique in what they do: Providing a complete quality back-roads package that makes riding them at mid-speeds more fun than any other option on the market. Suspension, transmission, frame are all set to be nimble, punchy and fun. Other small-CC bikes are often budget options of the bigger bikes. The 125/200/390 Duke is not, it can do stuff in backyards and forest roads (Supermoto mode anyone) you wouldn't dream of doing even with sth. as the Z650 while STILL being a viable option for going on a 4 hour highway ride (get the powerparts seat though).

Really like the format of this video. Also it would be entertaining if you did a “living with” bike series but spite had to live with sports bikes, while Yammie had to live with cruisers.

I've owned the Honda interceptor 500, Shadow 750, 599, 919, Moto Guzzi Breva 1100 and the Aprilia Shiver 750 and currently the KTM Duke 390. I've been riding motorcycles since 1988. Immediately I'll tell the KTM is by far the funnest motorcycle I've ever owned. If you focus on how you actually use your motorcycle, not how you "might" sometimes use it you'll find the Duke is perfect. That's been my case anyway. I think people get too caught up in the North American "bigger is better" bullshit way of life. It's not, typically. It's just more costly. 400cc are very capable bikes and they can pretty much do what bigger cc can do. There's a KZbin girl, itchy boots, who's riding around the world on a Royal Enfield 400cc. If that's not proof I don't know what is. And finally people just need to stop calling smaller cc bikes beginner or starter bikes. That's just pure ego bullshit that hurts the sport. Do you think Itchy Boots is on a "beginner" bike because it's 400cc? Do you think I think of my Duke as a beginner bike? No. Do you think all the Europeans, Asain countries who ride smaller cc bikes think they're on starter bikes? No. So do me a favour North Americans, loose the bullshit attitude that the Duke and smaller cc bikes are starter bikes. It's bullshit. In the end you can have a blast on any cc bike and also die on any bike. Rubber side down.

The Duke isnt a bike youd spend all day on...its a half hour thrill ride in the hills. Single fans arent going to have an issue with the vibration. Quite the opposite. Id buy 1 just for the exhaust sound. The Duke is an excellent bit of kit for anyone never mind a beginner.

It would be nice to see a 390 Duke done as a Project Scrambler . The stock clearance isnt bad at 7.3 inches. There are bikes touted as Adventure bikes that have 6 inches. What do you think ?
@danielmak334 жыл бұрын
6th gear 6000 rpm is your max limit for the duke for cruising. Which make the duke cruise only at 62mph. Higher than that, it’s suffering. You can go as fast as 170kmh does not mean it’s good for the bike.

I bought one two years ago as a local runabout and it's been great. 10000 kms so far and no problems. Mine doesn't vibrate at the lights but gets buzzy at high revs, as you'd expect. A top bike for the dough. Back brake is absolute rubbish though. A nice, fun bike to learn on and keep afterwards too. I'm 64, 6 foot and 230 pounds and I find it comfortable, even with a boney ass.

Bro we add cushioning in the seat it is so easy bro, go to a sofa shop amd ask him to add some some on top of seat, and also give him some black leather or a fabric of seat he will add as much cushion u want and seal it with the seat cover for both Rider and pillion

Fair play for doing a little maintenance section but that looks a real pain. No centrestand, not much scope for maladjusted chain, no rubber guide on the arm either means chain adjustment is pain. Also Shim valve adjustment which means long downtime to do valves. luggage capacity seems a bit limited. Maybe not such good choice for new rider commuting to college??? Also no riding in adverse weather.
