I bought an mt-03 over the duke mostly for the reliability. I've heard of issues like fragile oil pumps and burnt out heads on the duke while the R3/mt engine is fairly bombproof. The duke is super fun and feels a lot more pokey, to me it feels almost like a motard while the rider position and high reving engine on the mt feels closer to sports bike. The mt's suspension and brakes do leave a lot to be desired though.

i've had a 390 for 3 years now. it's been a blast. i bought a used 1290, kept both for a season, sold the1290. not saying it's better, they do not compare. just saying that 390 was more suitable formy needs, i use the bike as transportation and the 1290 is a weekend warrior, not a commuter. i mean... if you're 6 feet tall and don't care about the huge fuel consumption and insurance and maintenance costs... and it doesn't get too hot in the summer where you live ,then maybe it could be a commuter fo you. i live in rome (italy) and there's always traffic and the roads are all bumpy and when it rains the streets flood. the 390 never let me down, i rode it in 1 foot of water, i stand up on the pegs like on an enduro bike when the road is terrible or i have to go on and off sidewalks (yes we do park on sidewalks here) and i zip through traffic like i'm on a scooter. i'm so sad they discontinued the 690 duke, it was the perfect bike for me but i don't wanna get one used cause i prefer having warranty. i love the little 390 but i'd like some more grunt. i think i'll go 890 cause i got a car now, work mostly from home, so i could use a less practical bike as long as it doesn't get clumsy in traffic and it doesn't use more gas than my freacking car. a little version of the superduke might be the right choice for now.

With the nice weather I am enjoying riding my 2017 Kawasaki x300 Versys and my 2013 KTM Duke 690 Supermoto. Today I rode both of them back to back and delighted in discovering the attributes of each of these wonderful motorcycles. Here is my evaluation: My Kawasaki seems like a Rolls Royce compared to the KTM Duke. It's engine is much smoother and much more quiet. The clutch throw is much softer but has a longer pull. I like the gear shifting on the KTM best. It is a bit clunky but has a short positive throw and more precise clicking into gear. The clutch is fast and positive. The KTM has way more power and acceleration than my Kawasaki. But that is an unfair comparison considering that the Duke has more than twice the displacement. The guages and features are far nicer on the Kawasaki. I like the gear position indicator and the fuel gauge that Kawasaki offers. The KTM has a far more comfortable seat compared to the Kawasaki. However, the seating position of the Kawasaki is much nicer than the KTM. Both are fairly tall motorcycles. I recently lowered my Kawasaki 1-1/2" which I highly recommend if you are shorter than 6 feet tall. My Kawasaki feels better balanced than the KTM, but only slightly. The KTM has so much torgue, so less down shifting is required. Just twist the throttle and go in any gear. The Kawasaki has a very high revving engine. It takes 7,500 rpm to cruise 65 mph. The KTM rarely needs more than 4,000 rpm. The Kawasaki engine internals sound smooth as silk. The KTM sounds like it is grinding bolts internally. The KTM has a very jerkey low range, not very tractable. The Kawasaki is the opposite. Very smooth. Both motorcycles shine in the twisties and curves. Both motorcycles are very flickable. The KTM may have a slight edge in handling but overall I prefer the ride of the Kawasaki. My final impression is that both motorcycles are wonderful, the Duke for it's torque and power, the Kawasaki for it's dual sport smoothness. If I could own just one or the other I would keep the Kawasaki for it's Rolls Royce build quality, smoothness, handling and quietness.

The one to review for the north American market is the Husqvarna Svartpilen. It's a brilliant bike. Same engine as the Duke, made by the same organisation, KTM parts in it, BUT when you're riding it you are sat straight. You're don't feel like you're kneeling down with the belief that your about to somersault over the handlebars if you hit a bump or brake sharply.

How about the 2020 kawazaki z400 compared to these 2?
@StudioCST4 жыл бұрын
Z400 is way nicer of a bike in my opinion than both 2, definitely check it out. The 390 is overhyped and just not as reliable as the Kawa and the Yamaha. There are so many known problems with the 390, and some obvious parts like the electronics don't even cover the warranty. I have ridden all 3 and I own the z400 myself and have ridden it for 16000 km now. Really love it!
