The UK is a net contributor to the EU (17 billion dollars) and don't feel like they're getting much in return. The EU also has control over their borders and its laws overrule those of the UK. Leaving would also benefit trade with other countries. Once Britain is separate they are more open to trade with non EU countries like America and China. They'll also be able to reestablish a closer relationship with the commonwealth; Canada, New Zealand and Australia. There are plenty of reason to stay though, that's why the vote to leave was near 50/50. There are positives and negatives to both sides.
