I’d define public transport as, A service which runs at a set time, with set drop off and pick up points for picking up/dropping off passengers. An Uber would therefore not be public transport as the passenger can choose the exact pick up and drop off location at their chosen time furthermore they aren’t required to share the vehicle with other passengers. I mean they are essentially using a car, just because they aren’t the ones driving it doesn’t make it public transport.
@DriftKingNL2 жыл бұрын
Can you call a train and say: I need a train to take to this remote location without tracks? Can you call a bus company and ask them to change their route by 30 miles to fit your needs? No. Public transportation is a paid service set along a defined path often with stops in between to let others go off and on the vehicle. But you can call an uber or taxi to pick you up where you want and deliver you where you want. It doesn't stop along the way to let passengers go off and on. So no, Uber is not public transportation.

Technically Alex won. He was already in the place when the other two were just approaching the location from the other direction. It just his stupidity which cost him the victory.

I live in Nottingham now, and when my mum last visited, we went for a drive in the peak district. Was very enjoyable, so I really relate to what you're saying at like 18:20. Ended up, purely by accident, in the highest village in the UK, named Flash. Had a nice fry up at the cafe there. I plan to go back one day haha.

Good piece of advice for young drivers is diesel. You get a low tax cost. Good mileage insurance is always cheaper and pretty much every diesel has a turbo these days. Soo its a win win for everyone.

I love these old Top Gear style challenges they are my favourite content from the channel. Alex you may have lost but I'd say Percy claims a moral victory as on principal of car Vs public transport it would have won. Also public transport failed Jack and Ethan resulting in a "no option but Uber".

I had a Passat high line estate of the same era in the same colour and it was hands down the most comfortable car I’ve ever owned. It was a pd130 and had 170k on the clock and a ridiculously good service history. It was comfy, huge inside, everything worked and I only have £900 for it! If you’re looking for a car to do moon mileage in get a pd130 passat

In my mind there are two requirments for 'public transport'. Number on - more than 8 passnager seats and number two - the ability to go in the BUS lane legaly.

In Poland on most trains if you have a ticket for train that you should be able to connect to, you can talk to the conductor, and if your train is late, the next train will be waiting for you. So Ethan and Jack would have some more chances to not miss their second train.
@sanxi342 жыл бұрын
Alex is the real winner here... Not only because he got Percy out of it (will love seeing the journey you take that Passat through) but also because I don't consider Uber & co public transportation. A cab would've been different because, while you can request them through apps and so on, most of the times you'll just flag them down. For next challenge, I feel like there should be a rule about cars, meaning, if they need to get a cab, it has to be as a last resource (like they did), for the last section of the challenge, but they have to find it on the street and flag them down, no apps
