Ajahn Amaro talks about the traditional practice of Buddhist monasticism, in which monks live without money, relying entirely on the generosity of others for their basic needs. He explores the challenges and benefits of this lifestyle, and highlights the importance of cultivating a sense of trust and faith in the generosity of others. This video provides a unique perspective on the role of generosity and selflessness in Buddhist practice, and invites us to reflect on our own attitudes towards giving and receiving.

I like pasta a lot, but this evening I'm having Korean noodles, and a little sauerkraut on top, after I drink the soup. I add pepper to the noodles and sauerkraut, or at least some spicy flakes. I dream about this at night, honestly. My grandfather's recipe.

It’s remarkable that the whole thing is run by donations. Amaravati is huge, twenty or so large buildings, 70 plus residents, and the whole thing hangs together through good will and generosity.

Where this video was made? Just asking, because the Padmasambhava picture in the back is not really Theravada compatible I would think.

This video was filmed at Amaravati Buddhist Monastery, where Ajahn Amaro is abbot. If you watch his introduction video, he talks about the connection to Padmasambhava when he was introduced to Buddhism.

@@studybuddhism @Study Buddhism Thank you for the answer. By the way I have no problem with the picture per se. Personally I always felt a deep connection with Guru Rinpoche. It was just interesting to see the picture in this Theravada context.

I paid for a monk to go on a trip. I learned that he did have money. Also, people give donate money, which is, of course, accepted. The monks can then direct how that money is spent. This monk is playing word games.

ven. amaro asserts that notself means there are no persons, only configurations of patterns in nature. in other words hes an example of common degenerated dharma who cannot understand dependently arisen persons devoid of self.

@@HerFavColor-ut9qb that is his and the common degenerated theravadin lineages view. namely there is no person with cognition, only configurations of cognition in nature. thats not an exact quote from him but almost. nevertheless real dhamma still exists without this sort of nonsense.
