In this film, you will see my grandfather, who was born in this house and lives to this day. This place is "Wild forests of the Carpathians" ethnic group "Boyka" Usually, few people except my grandfather live far from civilization now. My grandfather goes down to the village twice a year, he spends all the time away from civilization in his forest house, which was built by his grandfathers. In those forest houses, as you saw, there is no electricity, the only connection to civilization is an old battery-operated radio. From time to time I visit my grandfather, I help with the household. My grandfather has a goat and a bull. When the bull grows up, he sells it and lives on the money from the sale.

I am from USA 🇺🇸, how is everyone doing with the unrest there and the threat of war? I hope you two are doing well and are staying safe and out of harms way. You living the way your living reminds me when I was a kid in the state of Oklahoma where I still live. We were poor, we butchered our own hogs, calves, goats, milked our own cow, had a huge garden and lots of fruit trees! We had 6 in our family, there are only my older sister and myself left now, I am 72! It would be really nice to live like you men are living, the old ways were the best ways. I miss them, but God tells us not to dwell on the past but to look forward to a home in Heaven with him! It's taken me a lifetime to understand this old earth is not my home! May God continue to bless you guys! Thanks so much for sharing this video and allowing me to come into and share the excitement in your lifestyle! I find myself being calmed by the content and reminds me of myself and 2 daughters on a solitary farm long ago. It was difficult for a mother and 2 kids to do all that needs done with every task here in Kansas. I never had trouble sleeping unless it was tornado season 😊. Bless you and thank you

Hello to you both from Czech Republic :) My grandparents lived in similar way in Slovakian mountains. We even still maintain the old house even though it will likely be gone in the next generation. I am 80. My grandparents migrated from the Ukraine under The Homestead Act, to West Rutland Vermont. They raised me this way. They lived high on top of a hill, and set up a self sufficient dairy farm, of 179 acres. Apple trees, mulberry trees, and pears. Yum! My best memories are of those days. As an old fart watching from the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State, I enjoyed your video last night. Your grandfather has a nice life in a beautiful setting; and it is good that you are able and willing to help him. Re-watching a portion of the video as I ate breakfast this morning, the thought occurred to me that your grandfather's life has probably not changed much over a time span that included Ukraine being part of the Soviet Union, transitioning to an independent nation, to one now battling Russian invaders in order to preserve that independence. I have come to admire the spirit and creativity of the Ukrainian People; and, I hope and pray (even as an agnostic) that your people are victorious. I see parallels in Ukrainian spirit through their current struggle to that of the USA's founders two-and-a-half centuries ago. Over recent decades, drastic changes forced upon our society by Leftists threaten our very culture and traditions to the point that some on the Left now declare that self-sufficiency is a trait of White Supremacists! As my thoughts of parallels arose, I was reminded of a song from forty years ago. I believe that both you and your grandfather would appreciate the sentiments expressed in Hank Williams Jr. song "A Country Boy Can Survive." (Hopefully you'll see one of the videos here on KZbin that include lyrics and be able to translate them for your grandfather.) Слава Україні! PS: What a cute, curious and energetic puppy. I was impressed too with how calm the bull calf and the milk goat are and how how much both seem to enjoy your grandfather's company, just judging by how close they keep to him. PPS: I have not fished in ages, but I did forage three species of edible mushrooms from old-growth forest that is preserved in a national park about 15 kilometers from the house.

I am very impressed by the grandson and what he does to help his grandfather. The farm is well maintained and he sure works hard to keep it that way. I am not sure if he lives with his grandad or visits often. His grandad still is able to do the basics to get by on his own. Two real pioneers living off the land! Wonderful!

It was all so captivating...👏 Sometime I too think of passing my old age in such a beautiful and isolated place but then think of my physical vigour which would go down with every passing day..😢 Your grandpa is a very brave person and living the life as sages in my country India. We call the third stage of human life (roughly between 50 to 75 years) as "Vaanaprastha Ashram"(moving to forest abode, or in modern sense "living in isolation" away from your children and their families). This gives the person a chance to look into himself and try to understand as "who he is" and retrospect into his past years endeavours thinking about their real value, necessity or permanance in his life as on date ?? Really happy to see that you care this much for your grandpa..When you will reach his age you will realise what a visit of this kind of someone dear to you really means to you. What a wonderful way of spending the last 1/3 of life. I am in the third stage, and live alone, but I'm hardly isolated. I love going to a nearby lake and just watching the birds and reflecting on all the things I've done. It's wonderful. I'm not sure if it will ever catch on in the U.S., though. People here are busily trying to check things off their bucket lists.

Yes, and I am peering at the fourth and final stage (of the chaturashram) that of sanyassa. It is not literally the last two stages but internally so as I ponder who I have been, where I am at this present moment and where I will be all of which resides in what cannot be wholly expressed or whose expression can never be exhausted but what remains ever permanent.
