@@Laura-gd4ku Haven't you seen some of the videos on here? Some people have made forever tiny homes for about £3000. I mean being able to save that wouldn't be easy for me, but i do recognise that that is one of the cheapest a poor person could ever OWN a home for. It's only privileged if you're looking at this fancy big diy home, that's not a 'tiny house' in this video and thinking that's what this movement is, it's not. The actual tiny houses are, you see more of those in the USA, UK, France, and the latter two tend to be cheaper ones too, especially in the UK.

@@pcoristi What a great reply. Our son is headed off to Montana State this fall and first year is in a dorm. But after that, we would love to help him find alternative housing. Real estate has skyrocketed and made it impossible for locals to buy and stay and made it extremely difficult for all the University Students to find affordable housing. Kudos to Bozeman, Montana, for the new 6 acre First Village, a community of tiny homes which will be used as permanent housing for those experiencing homelessness, but it's unique and an isolated occurrence. It's getting approval by the state to place them in backyards and build multiple tiny villages, that is the problem and is holding back solutions to supply affordable housing for so many.

This house gave me ideas for our kitchen. We have a counter and drawer space problem. One of many problems was the area for our pots and pans we needed to practically crawl under the counter to get at anything. So I got creative. The main thing we adopted, which I was proud of, is our cabinet for our pots, pans and gadgets…a 72Wx18H’ garage tool cabinet almond color with double doors and four movable shelves now sits in our kitchen. Makes everything so much easier to get at, keep clean and find. Shipping container is a stretch, I'd call it an industrial themed home with corrugated siding. Shipping container living at this comfort level is neither cheap or virtuous from a building standpoint since the shipping container is an ever present and limiting obstacle that has to be worked around. From a construction standpoint, when you really study images of finished well appointed container homes like this, you'll see what it took to pull it off and the answer is a lot of engineering costs, structural upgrades and cash. Did you notice that the kitchen is double deep so there's entire walls missing in two containers which required structural upgrades for one example. I don't dislike these homes, I just don't like the false virtuousness that people believe that don't understand the reality of construction involved.

LITTLE!!?? You said its "little" twice.. It's far from little, although technically it is "Tiny Home", with just the custom 1 bedroom, (it's much more than just a House), BUT on it's scale this takes Shipping Container Conversions to a whole new level - it doesn't have "little" rooms or little living spaces, where have you ever seen a floor to ceiling Library in any 'Little' home or in any Tiny House ? - and the Kitchen is Epic!!! It's the BIGGEST kitchen I've ever seen in any shipping container conversion!! It appears that it's used the full length of a 20 footer JUST for the Kitchen - it's got a GRAND effect that combines beautifully with simplicity of using Industrial Bunnings Tool cabinets for the cabinetry, without losing the aesthetics. Some of these Industrial designs can be 'colder', when pure functionality in industrial design can cost some of the luxurious and more beautiful design elements. She has made the environment and the location a focal point, with so many windows and drawing in natural light and panoramic views from all rooms, no matter which way you are facing, The Furniture facing the walls (for the spectacular Ancient Forest views. By the sheer number of windows, and by turning the furniture around to face the views, at first glance it's a surprising effect of the furniture not positioned against the walls, but facing the walls, she has made the sunlight throughout the day her focus framed by the rare and precious Forest -what a unique and incredible slice of Natural Beauty!! I don't think I would want to leave home if this was mine! This is an absolutely gorgeous Grand result for someone who hasn't done anything like this before!! The whole home has an amazing sense of peace, with a personality of its own with the vibrant splash of colour, and a sense of wholeness within, - it doesn't have the often narrow rooms in other shipping container conversions. With this one, there's not the confined limits on the size of each space, with the narrow width of the containers, which when the furniture or the beds are squeezed into the spaces, it looks smaller, appearing even more narrow when furniture or beds are squeezed in between the container walls, exaggerated with the longer length. I've seen many of thousands of these Tiny Homes conversions by DIY'ers which truly look tiny, an achievement for the owners to pare back their House full of "things & Stuff" to become minimalists by necessity with (sometimes) clearly compromised spaces trading dual purpose or multi-functionality of functionality required for the spaciousness internally to be able to cut costs, both building costs and material costs, in the construction phase, to have the major advantages -If the Tiny Home was built to be Off-grid equipped, of being able cut utility costs, heating and cooling costs, to nil or cut to being very small.. To be able to move these Shipping Container Conversions around, should the need arise, or the desire for travel squeezed in to usually leave the container walls and doors intact, with a shoehorn effect of a shoe-box shaped home also losing quite a chunk of space within each room, by the passageway required to move between each space, this creates limited living with the remaining space (in other Shipping Container Conversions built to be easily transported on the back of a truck, (if you can afford the crane at both ends of the origin & destination). This Home of Rosie's has an effect of being firmly rooted into its surroundings.. It doesn't have the compromised spaciousness internally that many Tiny Houses have as a trade off for low-cost builds, and for low utility costs for the functionality of modern living with all the luxury we have gotten accustomed to. Nothing has been lost in the internal living spaces, and it has a unique perspective of the grand effect of the space inside, especially in the kitchen and the library, facing the natural beauty which is being amplified by the perspective simply by facing the furniture and the bed towards the views in this Wonderland.. The natural light within I can picture the glow Rosie spoke of from Sunrise in the kitchen making the orange "glow" inside the kitchen and looking out onto the forest floor to ceiling views framed by the doors looking out onto the deck and into the Forest and the sky all the way to the horizon.. The night views of the Stars from all these framed windows like changing living Artscape that is such a rare unspoiled oasis on this planet.. Using insulation and double glazing so wisely has given Rosie and her partner the ability to put in so many windows without the heating and cooling costs soaring.. This is an awe-inspiring result for a beginner, such a majestic setting of Mother Nature in all her glory. What an incredible location, using and reusing materials fittings and fixtures just adds to the unique appeal - Truly one of a kind, home and a rare gem of a location... I don't think I would want to leave, Rosie, if only you could work remotely from home in another or similarly adjacent field. But I suppose it wouldn't be as much of a luxurious retreat if you lived there full-time, you may become a hermit in this paradise!! Well done indeed, a Spectacular Achievement, I love you have collected things you've kept (horded) from op shops. She has created a feature from every room, ..a breathtaking view of not just the Forest, but the natural light is part of the interior design, it enhances this oasis on a grand scale.. I can imagine how much the colours will dance on the walls inside during sunrise and sunset and how the night sky and the stars without light pollution out there - None of the creature comforts have been compromised here, to wake up each morning from this Huge King-size bed facing the views from 3 sides, and falling asleep to the sparkle of the stars... Ahhhh the Serenity!! What a wonderful space nestled in and around a stunning place!! From first light at sunrise until the moon rises in the night sky, I can imagine would be a kaleidoscope of living Colours through all those gorgeous windows! This is my dream house now!! I would love to see more photos of Sunrise and Sunset and of the Stars at night. What is the name of this Forest ? - Are you allowed to rent it out like an Airbnb when you aren't using it? To pay off your mortgage, while sharing the place with highly rated guests who respect your sanctuary and leave no trace.. I would love to see it for myself to just have a private tour..

The interior was not very future-proof, though. All of those shelves and nooks and crannies (such as her wine bottles) collect dust and are areas to hide bugs. I used to work in home healthcare - weak people cannot reach higher shelves or clean things well. She's already over-weight, so will really struggle to keep up that place. While she is relatively healthy, she should re-design the hard-to-maintain aspects of the house.
